Own-Root Ground Covers
Raspberry Blanket
(cv. KORtwente) PPAF Deep fuchsia pink. Shrub/Ground Cover Terra firma never had it so good…a nice cozy blanket of glossy-glossy green foliage quilted with gobs of hot-hot pink blossoms. It’s not a bashful addition to the landscape, but a bawdy bold fountain of color that requires no pampering. Just apply a little water & a little love. Height/Habit: Low/Spreading Bloom/Size: Medium-small, double Petal Count: 15 to 20 Fragrance: Slight spice Hybridizer: Kordes—2004 Parentage: Not released Comments: Very consistent in all climates.
Electric Blanket
(cv. KORpancom) PPAF Warm coral. Shrub/Ground Cover The large double flowers of cozy coral separates this rose from other ground cover roses. Bearing the typical super-glossy super-resistant foliage you would expect from the Kordes roses, just plug it in & let her warm up a spot in your landscape. Low-maintenance, clean & colorful. Height/Habit: Medium-low/Somewhat spreading Bloom/Size: Medium, in clusters Petal Count: 15 to 20 Fragrance: Light Hybridizer: Kordes—1999 Parentage: Bella Rosa x White Max Graf Comments: Consistent colorful coral.

Sweet Vigorosa
(cv. KORdatura) PPAF Blued pink with a white ‘eye’. Shrub/Ground Cover A more blendable pink in the Ground Cover offerings. Yet it’s not dull by any means. The nicely sized double flowers have a catchy white ‘eye’ that sets off each showy cluster. It all looks great against that glossy green foliage that typifies the Kordes bloodlines. Vigorous & clean, flowerful & powerful—it lights up any landscape. Height/Habit: Medium-low/Spreading Bloom/Size: Medium, in clusters Petal Count: 10 to 15 Fragrance: Light Hybridizer: Kordes—2001 Parentage: Not released Comments: Nicely flowerful.
Sunrise Vigorosa™
(cv. KORsupigel) Pat. #19,601 Luminous yellow. Shrub/Ground Cover Yellow is the more rare color amongst ground cover roses. And double flowered yellows are even scarcer. That’s why we had to draw on the shrub & ground cover expertise of the famous Kordes family in Germany. The results are a large flowered luminous yellow with luscious glossy green leaves Height/Habit: Medium-low/Slightly spreading Bloom/Size: Medium, fully double Petal Count: Over 50 Fragrance: Mild Hybridizer: Kordes—2007 Parentage: Seedling x seedling Comments: Holds the deeper color in cooler conditions.

Red Ribbons
(cv. KORtemma) Pat. #9115 Bright lasting red. Shrub/Ground Cover When it comes to bright glowing red Ground Cover roses, this one’s hard to beat. Nicely-sized showy flowers come in large clusters to drape over a wall or spill from a standard. Better yet, that killer color holds to the very end. Clean doubly-dark glossy green leaves round out the display on this super vigorous gem. Height/Habit: Medium-low/Spreading Bloom/Size: Medium, in large clusters Petal Count: About 20 Fragrance: Light Hybridizer: Kordes—1990 Parentage: White Max Graf x Walzertraum Comments: Very consistent in all climates.

Brilliant Pink Iceberg
(cv. PRObril) Pat.#12,645 Cerise pink & cream blend. Floribunda Also available Own-Root Hardly anything needs to be said beyond the name. After all these many years of worldwide propagation, a color mutation of the renowned Iceberg has finally occurred from the far reaches of Tasmania. The plant is exactly like its parent in every way but color–same great landscape value, same free flowering habit, same foliage, same flower form & showy clusters. It’s just that the color has been kicked up a notch to a bright cerise pink painted onto cream. Height/Habit: Medium-tall/Rounded, bushy Bloom/Size: Medium, double, in clusters Petal Count: 18 to 24 Fragrance: Mild honey Hybridizer: Weatherly—2001 Parentage: Sport of Iceberg Comments: Color intensifies in cooler conditions.
(cv. PROse) Pat.#16,198 Purple-red burgundy/cream reverse. Floribunda Also available Own-Root Performs exactly like its famous parent, Iceberg, in every way (except color)—same terrific flower production, bushy habit, lovely buds, showy clusters, glossy green foliage and nearly thornless stems. But ‘Brother Burgundy’ has the painted colors of deep purple-red burgundy & cream that are absolutely nothing like the bland whiteness of ‘Mom’. Seems to always be in bloom. Perfect for the landscape—either in mass, standing alone or atop a beautiful tree rose. Height/Habit: Medium-tall/Rounded & bushy Bloom/Size: Medium, double, in clusters Petal Count: 20 to 25 Fragrance: Mild honey Hybridizer: Swane—2007 Parentage: Sport of Brilliant Pink Iceberg Comments: Darkest color in cooler temps. Cary Grant
(cv. MEImainger) Bright orange blended with copper & gold. Hybrid Tea ‘Luminescent’ is the best word to describe the glowing colors of the large shapely blossoms borne on Cary Grant—the rose, that is. The sweetly fragrant flowers come on long strong stems and seem to take forever to fully open. Dark highly glossed foliage clothes the husky vigorous plant. Height/Habit: Medium-tall/Slightly spreading Bloom/Size: Large, very full Petal Count: 35 to 40 Fragrance: Medium strong spicy Hybridizer: Meilland—1987 Parentage: (Pharaoh x Konigin der Rosen) x seedling Comments: Colors intensify in the fall bloom.

It cashes in with all the same great plant qualities— same super vigorous bushy clean plant that flowers like a weed & smells up a storm. But it’s just a different color—a clear long-lasting even glowing yellow. Very deep red new shoots & dark green leaves set off the many showy clusters of blossoms. You’ll have a sure winner when you lay down your money on this yellow honey. Height/Habit: Medium-tall/Upright & bushy Bloom/Size: Large, double, informal Petal Count: About 30 Fragrance: Strong sweet spice & fruit Hybridizer: Carruth/Bédard—2010 Parentage: Sport of Strike It Rich Comments: A fragrant yellow bloomin’ fool.

(cv. WEKjuvoo, Raymond Kopa) Pat.#10,071 Melon orange blushing red. Hybrid Tea No, not a subtle color. In fact, it’s a ‘grand slam’ as far as most eyeballs are concerned. Some might call it orange-yellow, others yellow-orange—but the scarlet blush ‘served’ at the finish of the flower is ‘game point’. The ‘match’ is completed by a well-behaved clean plant for these showy well-formed blossoms. Deep red new foliage and large green leaves put on the final ‘top spin’. You’ll ‘love’ it. Yet it’s perfectly blendable with any color in the garden, whether it’s atop a rose tree, planted in mass or nestled amongst your favorite perennials. The superclean glossy-green foliage mirrors the flowers, adding even more pizazz to this bushy rounded flower factory. Height/Habit: Medium/Rounded & bushy Bloom/Size: Medium, in large clusters Petal Count: About 25 Fragrance: Moderate sweet apple Hybridizer: Carruth—2009 Parentage: Topsy Turvy x Julia Child Comments: Smokier when it’s cool outside.

Nor is it the tall vertical garden statement you might expect from a Grandiflora. But the rounded handsome plant does bear the typical clusters of its class. Deep glossy green leaves provide the perfect foil for the showy blossoms. Height/Habit: Medium/Upright & bushy Bloom/Size: Medium-large, double Petal Count: 20 to 25 Fragrance: Slight Hybridizer: Kordes—2000 Parentage: Bad Füssing x Ingrid Bergman Comments: Better flower size & petalage in cool conditions.

(cv. AUSmary) Rosy pink. Shrub Easy to see why this Austin is so popular. The plant maintains a bushy, more compact habit than many & blooms the most prolifically of them all. Old-fashioned rose pink double flowers exude powerful perfume. Winter hardy & wonderful. Height/Habit: Medium/Upright & bushy Bloom/Size: Medium, double Petal Count: Over 40 Fragrance: Sweet old rose Hybridizer: Austin—1983 Parentage: Seedling x The Friar Comments: The most consistent & tidy performer of all English roses.
Pat Austin
(cv. AUSmum) Pat.#9527 Coppery orange with a yellow reverse. Shrub Ironically, the rose chosen to honor Mr. Austin’s wife is a radical color compared to most of David’s selections. Yet the intense copper orange & yellow bicolor still works well in combination with the classic Austin full old-rose form. Besides the unusual color, Pat is one of the most popular Austin selections because the habit is more contained & the rebloom is more consistent. One of his best! Height/Habit: Medium/Rounded Bloom/Size: Medium, cuppy, double Petal Count: Over 35 Fragrance: Moderate tea & spice Hybridizer: Austin—1995 Parentage: Graham Thomas x Abraham Darby Comments: Good repeat bloom & containable habit. Consistent performer.

Repeats well through the season & maintains a manageable habit. Height/Habit: Medium/Bushy, upright Bloom/Size: Medium, double, opens broad Petal Count: Over 35 Fragrance: Light tea Hybridizer: Austin—1997 Parentage: Prospero x seedling Comments: More red when cool/more pink when hot.
Tamora
(cv. AUStamora) Soft apricot-yellow. Shrub One of the more contained growers of the many Austin roses, Tamora makes a very well-balanced garden subject. Although compact & bushy, the plant bears large, very full, fragrant flowers of pastel apricot yellow. It has the old-fashioned cuppy form known amongst the English roses. Matte green foliage sets off the compact plant. Height/Habit: Medium-low/Upright Bloom/Size: Medium, fully double, cupped Petal Count: Over 40 Fragrance: Strong myrrh Hybridizer: Austin—1992 Parentage: Chaucer x Conrad Ferdinard Meyer Comments: Best flower color & size in cool weather.

(cv. AUSdisco) Salmon & yellow bicolor. Shrub Unusual amongst the Austin intros for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s a bicolor of even salmon-pink with a yellow reverse and the monstrous blossoms keep that contrast throughout the life of the flower. Secondly, it’s a hot-weather lover…so much so that it will not be introduced in the UK. Lastly, its large dark grey-green leaves provide the most attractive foliage yet in this line. Floriferous enough to be a successful Climber in our milder climates. Height/Habit: Medium-tall to climbing/Spreading Bloom/Size: Very large, fully double Petal Count: 45 to 50 Fragrance: Moderate spicy Hybridizer: Austin—2006 Parentage: Not released by the breeder Comments: Can be used as a Climber in mild climates.

Own-Root Shrubs
Weeks Own-Root Shrubs are fieldgrown plants grown from cuttings rather than budded (grafted) onto rootstock. These 16 month-old bare-root plants require the same care as other bare-root roses. Own-root plants tend to be more winter-hardy and do not develop annoying rootstock suckers.
Shrubs – Free-blooming plants with differing flower sizes and forms, broadly varying in mature size but of full bushy attractive habit, usually good disease resistance and hardiness, mostly grown on their own roots.
(cv. SCRivluv) Sunny summer yellow. Shrublet From the name you might think this rose to be sweet, delicate and dainty. But baby, this little lover’s full of nothin’ but spit and vinegar. She’s got a most outstanding black-spot resistance and is a rare color amongst Shrubs…glorious yellow. Her English amateur breeder ‘Dad’ has brought a completely different rose species into her bloodlines to give this remarkable toughness. Nearly all season long, sunny single yellow flowers pop up all over the upright bushy plant. So clean she keeps her glossy green leaves to the very ground, even in the fall. Height/Habit: Medium/Upright Bloom/Size: Medium-small, in clusters Petal Count: About 5 Fragrance: Mild licorice Hybridizer: Scrivens—1997 Parentage: (Sweet Magic x seedling) x (Sunblest x R. davida elongata seedling) Comments: Consistently full, bushy & flowerful in all climates.

Shrublets are roses of varying habits which are never too big to tuck into restricted garden spaces. We call ‘em ‘Shrublets’ because the flowers are individually smaller with proportionately smaller foliage. Yet Shrublets bloom very abundantly, have very good disease resistance and a high level of hardiness. Shrublets look attractive in the landscape with merely a light shaping rather than a hard pruning.

In cold climates, you can place the crown of the plant 2–3" below the new ground level. Use well-rotted compost to amend the soil for refilling the hole.
