Iron and Steel Industry in 2001 What are the trends in the iron and steel industry in 2001 for OECD countries, for certain central and eastern European countries in transition, for selected New Independent States and a few other countries that have observer status in the Steel Committee? This annual publication provides statistical tables showing steel production, consumption and trade data, as well as other indicators of activity such as employment levels, annual investment expenditures by sector and by country, export prices, domestic prices and indices for certain iron and steel products.

ORGANISATION FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT Pursuant to Article 1 of the Convention signed in Paris on 14th December 1960, and which came into force on 30th September 1961, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shall promote policies designed: – to achieve the highest sustainable economic growth and employment and a rising standard of living in Member countries, while maintaining financial stability, and thus to contribute to the development of the world economy; – to contribute to sound economic expansion in Member as well as non-member countries in the process of economic development; and – to contribute to the expansion of world trade on a multilateral, non-discriminatory basis in accordance with international obligations. These steels are defined in Notes 1(e), 1(f), to Chapter 72 of the Harmonised System nomenclature of the Customs co-operation Council, Volume 3 (1986); only the products listed in Appendix I should be taken into account.

Definition of high-speed steels and stainless or heat-resisting steels

Les aciers à coupe rapide sont les aciers alliés contenant, avec ou sans autres éléments d’alliage, au moins deux des trois éléments suivants : molybdène, tungstène, et vanadium avec une teneur totale en poids égale ou supérieure à 7 pour cent, contenant 0.6 pour cent de carbone et de 3 à 6 pour cent de chrome.

High-speed steels are alloy steels containing, either with or wihout other alloying elements, at least two of the following three elements: molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium, with a total content of these elements considered together of not less than 7 per cent by weight and containing more than 0.6 per cent carbon and 3 to 6 per cent chromium.

Les aciers inoxydables ou réfractaires sont les aciers alliés dont la teneur en carbone est égale ou inférieure à 1.2 pour cent avec une teneur en chrome égale ou supérieure à 10.5 pour cent, avec ou sans autres éléments d’alliage.

Stainless or heat-resisting steels are steels with a carbon content below 1.2 per cent and a chromium content of not less than 10.5 per cent with or without other alloying elements.
