Chapter One Some things in life never changed and Willowdale Grove, her hometown, was one of them. Eden Burns still held the phone in her hand even though her mom had long since hung up. “Come home, Eden,” she’d said, her voice shaky, yet strong, as she spoke. “Your father’s in the hospital, it’s cancer, and I need you. I don’t think he has much time. If you want to see him alive you have to come home now.” “Who was that?” Joy, her roommate, emerged from the kitchen, an apron wrapped around her waist. The apartment was filled with the aromatic fresh scent of apple pie. “It was my mom. Dad’s in the hospital and it doesn’t look good.” She placed the phone back on its receiver and stood from the couch, her mind a muddled mess as she tried to process the information that had been given to her less than ten minutes ago. “She said it’s cancer. I have to call the office. I don’t know how long I’ll be gone for. You’ll have to water the plants.” She was speaking now without thinking. The plants. How silly was it to think of something like that at a time like this? “Of course.” Joy shed the oven mitts from her hands and then untied the apron. “Sherry works with one of the airlines. I’ll call her

and see if she can arrange something for you at a discount. You remember Sherry?” She did. She was a petite redhead who drank too much and had a love of menthol cigarettes. “You both met a couple months ago that night when we went out to Stallions.” A small smile crept across Eden’s face as she remembered the many male strippers who paraded in front of them that night. “Yes, I remember her. She’s the one who got her hand tangled in that stripper’s thong. I think his name was Ringo?” “Mandingo,” corrected Joy as she smirked. “I’ll call her and explain the situation. She could probably get you out tonight at a decent rate.” Eden nodded. “Thanks, I’d appreciate that.” She retrieved her cell from the coffee table and went into her bedroom to pack. It was entirely possible that her mom was overacting since the woman had a penchant for that, as was proven many times in the past, but this time there was a an urgency in her tone that suggested that she meant business. Cancer. In regards to her dad, that came totally out of left field. Hank Burns had always lived a moderately healthy life, and after his sudden heart attack five years ago, she knew he’d made even more changes to facilitate his new and healthier lifestyle. Eden opened her closet door and started tossing outfits on the bed. Late August meant cooler weather back east. She’d have to pack for that with some thought as to how long she might have to stay and work. She’d have to make arrangements with them. “It’s done,” Joy said, poking her head into the bedroom. “You can pick your ticket up at the airport. Your flight’s at eight. I’ll drive you.” She stood in the doorway for a moment with both hands planted on her hips. “Are you okay?” Strangely enough, she was. She was shocked from the news more than anything else. “Yeah.” She paused. “It’s just…well you’d have to know my dad. He’s always done his best to live a healthy lifestyle.

He had a heart attack a couple years back and that only spurned him on to try harder.” “Did your mom say much about his condition?” “No. She said she needed me to come home.” She thought for a moment and then looked up at Joy from where she was folding her own clothes on the bed. “That can’t be good, right? My mom is one hell of a strong woman. She’d never call and ask me to come home unless she felt it was absolutely necessary. You’d have to know my mom to understand. She’s very independent.” “Don’t jump the gun just yet. Cancer could mean many things. Perhaps it isn’t life threatening, or he may be able to have it removed. There are also all sorts of treatments out there. I know it’s hard not to think the worst, but it’s best not to upset yourself at least until you know exactly what you’re dealing with.” Joy was right. She nodded. “You’re correct. I’ll fly out tonight and do just that. Joy, thank you for being there and being the voice of reasoning.” They’d been best friends and roommates for the past five years since Eden relocated to the city. Joy was much like family and the sister she’d never had, being an only child. “And thank Sherry, too. She’s a lifesaver.” “I will. She sends her regards by the way. She was more than happy to help out. You should probably get some rest before we have to leave. It’s one heck of a long flight.” Rest? There was no way she’d be able to settle down now. Too many thoughts swam through her mind. All she wanted now was to be home again. Home. Even though it wasn’t under the best circumstances having to return, she was glad to go back. This trip was long overdue. **** The flight was delayed, and when the plane finally landed through the thick fog that had engulfed the area, Eden was relieved to have her

feet planted firmly on the ground again. She detested flying, and ever since 9/11, each time she’d flown she couldn’t help but think about the plane going down. She shivered just thinking about what the victims must have gone through. After getting her car rental she was on her way back to Willowdale Grove. Her hometown was small, nothing more than just a knockabout place set practically in the middle of nowhere. Most of the people in town commuted to the larger centers nearby for work, and those who didn’t were usually self-employed like her mom and dad, who ran a small nursery selling garden plants and shrubs. Her mom managed the shop, which also did floral arrangements, while her dad handled the landscaping side of the business along with the greenhouses which housed their large and vast selection of stock. With a couple of employees, they managed quite nicely. They had both worked damned hard to build the business from the ground up, and it was definitely paying off. Last year they had their best year to date, and she remembered when her mom had called to tell her the great news. They had plans to expand next year, which included adding two more large greenhouses along with hiring more staff. The rain pelted on the windshield, and the blackness of the night did nothing to help with driving. She eased back on the gas pedal and thought about the last time she’d been home. Had it really been two years ago? It had and she marvelled at how quickly time passed even when one didn’t realize it. Christmas. She should have visited more often. She hadn’t any excuse other than her life was hectic to say the least with her job as a graphic designer. She also freelanced in her spare time, which took up most of her free hours. Damn it! It wasn’t a good excuse. These people were her parents. They raised and loved her. She should have made herself more available to them! ****

Cleo Burns sat in her small kitchen and listened to the rain coming down outside. She buttoned up her cardigan and went to the coffeemaker to pour a second cup as she waited for her only daughter to arrive. Eden had texted her from the airport, and she expected her within an hour or so given the poor driving conditions and the fact that it was nearing two in the morning. Cleo had called the hospital just before midnight to check in on Hank. The nurse had said that he was resting comfortably and that she’d call if there was any change in his condition. It had all happened so fast. Just a month ago Hank hadn’t been feeling well. He complained of stomach and back pain, which was nothing out of the ordinary for him. “It’s right in here,” he’d said, pointing to his midsection. “And it radiates through to my back.” He’d winced slightly as he leaned forward in the chair to show her the area he was talking about. “I think I should see the doc about it,” he’d suggested, and she agreed. “Having this much pain can’t be anything good.” One month later they’d had a firm diagnosis after Hank’s tests had come back. It was cancer. It was in the stomach and bowel, and it didn’t look good. The doctor had offered treatment but said it was unlikely to do much for him. They tried to continue on with their lives as normal, which wasn’t working, and two days ago Hank had awoke from his sleep in excruciating pain. She had called an ambulance, and he was admitted after an overnight stay in the emergency department. This was it. This was the end, and he wasn’t coming home. She knew how this went. She’s witnessed her mom die from cancer. Cleo sat back down at the table and rested one hand under her chin. The house was so darned silent without him already. She hated to think of the future without him. He was her life, her everything. They’d been together since they were sixteen, and they had a good marriage. Their relationship was one built of love and respect. Together they forged out the life they wanted along with the business.

The business. She didn’t want to think about that at this time. It was all too much for one person to handle, but Eden would be home soon. Cleo took a deep breath and swallowed back the lump that had formed in her throat. She wouldn’t break down. She wouldn’t allow it. She had to stay strong. **** Main Street still looked the same as it had when she was a child. Eden slowed the car as she drove into town, passing the small row of shops which lined each side of the street. She couldn’t help but smile as she drove by Marsden’s Shop-All. She remembered going there with her mom and buying new shoes when she was eight. She wanted the shiny red ones with the small silver buckles. They were impractical and not comfortable at all. The theater had closed along with the sweet shop, but she was heartened to see that the Last Stop Café was still open along with the hardware store and Velma’s Woman’s Wear. Yes, sir. Some things never changed. As she drove farther into town images came to mind, memories of playing with friends, of hanging out as a teenager and getting into all sorts of mischief like the time she was caught parking with Bobby Kerns up at Miller’s Crossing, the notorious make-out spot in the area. To make matters worse, she had been topless when her dad sauntered up to the car and knocked on the window. Thank God for fogged-up windows! He had been pissed and escorted her home all the while lecturing her about the dangers that such behaviour could get her into. She had been sixteen at the time and had lost her virginity the month prior to that most embarrassing incident, but she thought it best to not tell him that. Eden turned off Main Street onto Rosewood Avenue, and from there she took a left onto Lilac Street, so named after the many bushes with the same name that littered the yard of nearly every house,

including the one she grew up in. When she stopped at number twenty-four, she sucked in a breath as she pulled into the drive, then put the car into park. She was home once again.
Eden’s Garden

Chapter Two The house looked the same as it had two years ago except that the shutters had been repainted along with the front door in a dark shade of forest green. It was a nice contrast to the white siding. Eden got out of the car and stretched a little to relieve the tension in her aching muscles, and when her mom opened the front door, Eden stopped, and for a moment they stood there, frozen in place, looking at each other. She then rushed forward. They embraced as she entered the house, eager to get out of the rain and cold. “There’s coffee in the kitchen,” said her mom. She looked tired. “Coffee would be so good right now.” She removed her coat and hung it on the rack by the front door as she kicked off her shoes. “My suitcase is in the car, but that can wait.” They moved down the hallway together into the kitchen, and Eden sat down at the table while her mom poured two cups of coffee. “How’s Dad?” she asked, thinking it was best to get straight to the reason for her visit. There was little point in talking around her reason for returning home. “It isn’t looking good.” Her mom sat across the table from her and slid a filled cup her way along with the small porcelain sugar bowl. “He’s terminal. There is little hope for recovery.” Those two words didn’t sit well with her. “Terminal? Are you sure?” “Yes. The doctor did mention the options like treatment, but your dad’s cancer is so far advanced.” “What’s Dad saying about this?” “He took it all rather well, much better than me. He ended up in a lot of pain the other night so I called the ambulance to come for him.

They’re seeing to his needs and right now the best we can hope for is to keep him comfortable during his remaining days. He asked for you. I would have called anyway, but I knew you’d want to be here.” “Of course.” She reached across the table to grasp her mom’s hand. “How are you with all this?” “Well, you know me. I’m like a rock, but I feel a little cracked. I’m hoping I can hold it together to see your dad through this. The last thing he needs to witness is me losing it and that can’t happen. There’s also the business. That has to be attended to, though Kevin and Cliff are taking care of most of it for me along with Mavis in the shop. They’ve all been so good doing more than their fair share. They all thought the world of your dad. I guess that helps.” She smiled. “We’ll go see him in the morning.” She stood from the table and walked to the sink then rinsed out her cup. “It’s late and we should both get some sleep. Your room is ready with fresh sheets on the bed.” She nodded. “I’ll get my suitcase out of the car.” **** Eden felt like a teenager once again as she sat on the edge of her bed, her eyes tracing the floral pattern of the wallpaper that had been hung fifteen year ago to give the room a more mature look, and there was Vanilla, her stuffed bear which had been her one true confidante in life up until the age of eleven. She retrieved the bear from the shelf on the wall next to the bed and held it up. “You’ve aged,” she said aloud. “But then again, so have I.” She sat the bear on her lap and thought about her life in the city, and when all was said and done, she didn’t have much of one beyond work and some close friends she rarely went out with. Love. She didn’t think she’d ever find a man to have the connection that her mom and dad had. When she first moved to the city, she dated a bit off and on, but it always ended in disaster. Hell, the last man she
Eden’s Garden
17
dated had told her he was divorced. It turns out he hadn’t been. He hadn’t even separated from his wife! She’d learned this through a PM on a very popular social networking site. She deactivated her account shortly afterwards. She sure as shit didn’t need that drama in her life. If anything, she desperately needed change. Eden slipped into her nightdress, and after scrubbing her face free of makeup in the bathroom, she slid underneath the cool cotton sheets with just the bedside lamp left on. Shortly after, she drifted off with thoughts of her dad floating through her mind. **** The hospital in nearby Rockport loomed over them as they drove into the parking lot looking for a spot relatively close to the large complex, which was a feat in itself. Together, they walked to the main entrance, and just outside the doors, Eden felt a hand fall on her right shoulder. “When we go in,” started her mom, “please don’t lose it. I want us to be strong for your dad. He seems to be doing well with things. I can’t help but wonder what’s going on inside his head all the same. It can’t be easy keeping it together knowing you’re dying. Facing one’s own mortality is a scary thing, even for me as every year passes.” “Sure. I’ll do my best.” She knew it wasn’t going to be easy, and as they went up to the fifth floor in the elevator, she wondered what she’d face when she entered his room. Expecting the worst, Eden sucked in a deep breath as she followed her mom inside. “It’s Eden,” said her mom, moving to her dad’s side. “She’s come home to see you.” The man she’d known as her dad looked so different since the last time she saw him. He’d lost a lot of weight, and his skin looked ashen. His appearance was startling, and for a moment, she stood frozen in place not knowing what to say or how to react. She then pushed her feelings aside and moved closer to the other side of the

bed. She reached down and grabbed his hand, clasping it in her own. He felt cool to the touch, and suddenly it came to her that this was all very real. Her dad, the man who had loved and raised her, was, in fact, dying. “Hi, Dad. How are you doing?” She leaned over and kissed his brow. He smiled, and his eyes lit up. “I’m not doing so well, but I guess your mom told you all about that.” She nodded. “Yes, but I’m here now, and if you need anything at all just say the word.” “Sit,” he replied, motioning to a chair next to the bed. “It’s good just having you here.” “There’s no other place I’d rather be at this time.” Their relationship had always been a great one, and thinking back on her childhood, she could say with pure honesty that hers was one without dysfunction and always full of love and understanding. “Well, I can think of many other places that I’d rather be besides in this blasted place,” he replied. “This all came about so bloody fast. I was feeling a little off, but I never expected this. I tried my best to be healthy.” Eden was a little taken aback by his blatant honesty about the whole situation. “We never know what’s around the corner. It’s like that for all of us.” He nodded. “That’s true.” He then looked to her mom. “Cleo, would you get me a glass of water? The nurses keep an ice-filled jug out at the station.” They both watched as she left the room, shutting the door behind her. “I didn’t want water,” he said, pressing the button on the bed to come to a sitting position. “I don’t know how your mom’s coping with this. I’m glad you came home. She’s going to need you after I’m gone.” Eden cringed hearing him talk about his mortality. “Don’t talk like that.” She sat back in the chair, her eyes never leaving him.
Eden’s Garden
19
“We have to talk about it. Promise me that when I’m gone you will help her out with things. Besides you and me, she’s alone in the world.” “Things?” “Yes. The business will need tending to. I told her she should sell it off, but she wouldn’t hear anything about it. The boys are good and they do more than their fair share at the nursery, but she’s going to need someone around for support that they can’t offer. I worry about that and I won’t rest until I know she’ll be okay. I need to know that before I cross over to the great beyond.” It hurt to see the concern he held in his gaze as he waited for her answer. “Of course.” Family was everything. “You don’t have to worry. We’ll both be fine. I’ll make sure of that.” She’d put aside her own busy life for them now. She wanted to do this not only for her parents, but also for her. She needed this. “Your mom’s one hell of a strong woman, but I think she’s ready to crumble. Having you home makes things better. We both love you so much.” He started to tear up. “Hand me that box of tissues. I can’t do this while she’s here. You’d think I’d be braver than this, a big old bear like me.” “You may be a big old bear, but you’re also human. If I were in your position they’d have to drug me out,” she admitted. A small smile crept across his lips. “Being drugged out of it doesn’t sound so bad.” He paused. “And promise me that when I get to the point where I can’t speak for myself that you’ll do your best to keep me free of pain?” “Yes, without a doubt. Do you have pain now?” She couldn’t fathom what must have been going on inside his head knowing he was dying. Death scared the hell out of her, and she hated to think that at some point in the future she had to face her own mortality. It was a silly thought. Everything died. That was the law of the land with every creature on earth. Yet, knowing all this made it not one bit easier.

“Some. They’re giving me something for it and the nurse said that I could have something extra in between my regular doses if I need it. They’re nice here. The nurses and doctors have been great.” “That’s good.” She was about to say something else when her mom came back into the room. “How’s the nursery?” asked her dad, taking the glass of water from her mom. “Is everything running smoothly?” He took a sip of water and settled back on his pillow. “Yes, everything’s fine. You needn’t worry about any of that.” Her mom settled on the chair on the other side of the bed. He smirked. “I do worry. It’s in my nature. We worked damned hard to get that place to where it is today. When you leave here I want you to take Eden there to show her the recent renovations and our plans to expand. Someday it’ll all be hers and it’s important for her to see how everything operates.” Eden nodded. “I’d love to see it.” She honestly didn’t share their enthusiasm about the business, but she understood how important it was to her parents, and she respected that along with their strong work ethic. A knock fell on the door, and the three of them went silent as a nurse walked into the room. “It’s time for your regular dose of pain medication,” she said, holding a capped syringe in one hand. She was young, in her twenties, and as she moved in front of Eden at the side of the bed, Eden read her nametag. Sylvia. “And how are you feeling right now?” she asked as she administered the medication. “This will help you relax a little, too.” “Not too bad,” replied her dad. “That’s wonderful stuff and it should do the job. It’s morphine,” he explained, glancing in Eden’s direction. “Wonderful stuff!” he repeated. ****
Eden’s Garden
21
“He appears to be in good spirits,” said Eden once they’d left the hospital. After her dad had his dose of morphine, he drifted off, and after an hour more of sitting at his bedside they decided to leave since he was resting comfortably. “He’s being brave like I am,” replied her mom. “He’s scared just like the rest of us. I can tell and your dad was never one for scaring easily. It did him so much good to see you again. I can’t stress that enough to you.” “I’d be no other place at this time. I know life can get crazy. I’ve hardly had a moment to breathe lately with work, and life in the city has its pros and cons.” The latter held more sway with her these days. She was honestly thinking about scaling back a bit and looking for work in a smaller place “I need to check in at the nursery before we head back home. It’s been days since I’ve looked in to see how things are going.” The woman sighed as she unlocked the door to the car. “It’s never ending and I better show you around as per your dad’s wishes.” “I’ll help out in any way I’m needed,” volunteered Eden. “It’ll do me good and help me de-stress. I’d rather keep busy while I’m here.” “Then I’ll put you to work.” Her mom smiled and started the car. “Helping hands are always needed.”

Chapter Three Kevin O’Connell loved feeling the cold, black earth as it slid through his fingers. He liked his job. Hell, he hadn’t missed a day since he started at Eden’s Garden two years ago. He couldn’t have hoped for a better job, especially not in this knockabout hick town. He was mighty lucky to be working period, and he thanked his lucky stars for the good luck and opportunity that had fallen upon his life. “Mrs. Burns is here.” Kevin turned to see his friend and coworker Cliff Blanchett standing behind him looking rather handsome dressed in tight, faded jeans and a white T-shirt, his biceps bulging and his startling blue eyes a deep contrast to his tanned skinned and black hair. Cliff wasn’t aware of Kevin’s attraction to him. He’d managed to keep it a secret, and since Cliff had only started working with him last month, he didn’t know much about the man or his persuasions. “And she’s brought someone along with her. I think it’s her daughter, the namesake of this place.” Kevin walked to the nearby utility sink and scrubbed the dirt from his hands. “Really?” He hadn’t seen Eden Burns since their last year of high school. Mrs. Burns never talked about her much, and if she did it was only in passing without revealing too much detail about her daughter’s life. He guessed Eden was back to spend time with Mr. Burns. It was a shame that a man so good had to be stricken down with such an awful disease. He’d dealt with cancer firsthand and knew how it often killed hard and fast. He watched his own mom die from it four years ago. It was something he’d never forget for as long as he lived.
Eden’s Garden
23
“They’re out front.” Cliff stood there with his hands planted deep into his jeans pockets as he shifted back and forth awkwardly. “Should we go say hello?” “Yes, we should,” replied Kevin. “She’s probably just here checking in. Mrs. Burns likes to keep a close eye on things.” He passed by Cliff and smiled. “Come on.” “It’s just…I don’t know what to say to her. It’s awkward and I’d like for them to know I’m thinking of them all. Hell, Mr. Burns is the best boss ever,” stammered Cliff. “I’m not great when it comes to expressing my feelings.” He lowered his head and looked to the floor. “Just say what you feel. That’s the best advice I can give you.” He reached out and patted Cliff on the right shoulder. Perhaps there was more to this man than just his rough exterior. “Follow my lead.” He motioned for Cliff to follow him. **** Since his arrival at Eden’s Garden, Cliff Blanchett had tried hard to fit in. It was a situation that had become all too common throughout his life. He was a military child and with that came many moves growing up. He never managed to stay put in one place long enough to make friends. He was always known as the new kid, and even as he moved into adulthood that didn’t change as he found his way from town to town looking for a place to settle and set roots, but never managed to do so. He often wondered if he’d ever settle down. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to. The truth was that he’d never found a reason to stay in one place too long. Cliff followed Kevin across the nursery grounds from the greenhouses to the shop located at the front of the property. “I went to school with the Burns’s daughter,” said Kevin as they walked. “We dated for a brief period. I wonder if she’ll remember me?”
24
Xondra Day
Cliff smiled. How could anyone forget Kevin? He’d had a severe crush on the man since he’d started working at Eden’s Garden. He’d never dare reveal his hidden secret, but it was there inside him, and whenever he was around Kevin, he nearly held his breath wondering if at some point he’d slip and let his inner feelings be known. Kevin treated him like an equal, and he was always super friendly and helpful. Hell, Kevin was his first real friend, period. Cliff’s bisexuality was a whole other ballgame. He liked both sexes equally and had known that since he was in his early teens, yet thus far he’d only ever been with women. He fantasized about men, hell, every night was usually brought forth with some hot masturbatory dream in which he was everything he wasn’t in real life. In his dreams he was bold and always in charge, in his everyday life, not so much. He was too darned shy for one thing, and selfconfidence was something he didn’t possess in large amounts. Mrs. Burns smiled as they both walked into the shop, and next to her stood a very striking, petite redhead. “Kevin and Cliff,” Mrs. Burns said, greeting them. “I’m so glad to see you both.” She then turned to the young woman standing next to her. “This is my daughter, Eden. Eden, this is Kevin and Cliff. They do all of the heavier work around here and I’m so thankful to have them.” “We’re just doing our job,” replied Kevin. “It helps that we both love working here.” Cliff agreed with him on that and nodded. “Kevin, is that really you?” asked Eden. “It is. I was wondering if you’d remember me or not.” Cliff watched as Kevin flashed the woman one of his killer grins. “It’s been a long time. Years, even.” “I guess it has,” she replied. “How have you been? I knew a Kevin worked here, but I never imagined it’d be you. The last time I saw you was at Ginger’s after-graduation party and you were a little drunk.”
Eden’s Garden
25
Mrs. Burns raised one brow and smiled. “I’ll leave you three to chat for a bit. I have some things to discuss with Lurlene.” **** She looked the same as he imagined she would. Kevin’s eyes traced Eden up and down, and he liked what he saw and wondered if she was married or involved with anyone. All three sat down at a nearby table, and Kevin was suddenly aware of Cliff’s presence and the fact that this was Cliff’s first time meeting Eden. “Cliff, I went to school with Eden. We go back a long ways,” he explained for a second time. “You told me that,” replied Cliff. He extended his hand across the table. “It’s nice to finally meet you. Your mom has mentioned you.” “God, my ears are burning,” replied Eden. “Naw,” said Cliff. “She’s only ever said good things. How’s your dad?” Kevin had been about to ask the same question. Eden sat back in the chair and shrugged. “He’s doing okay, I guess. The doctors are managing to control his pain, but it doesn’t look good. We just came from the hospital. He was resting when we left him.” “Your dad’s a good man. He’s always been very good to us,” Kevin said. He looked toward Cliff. “We were both shocked to hear about his condition.” Cliff nodded. “I’ll send him your regards when I visit him again.” “Please do,” added Kevin. “And if there’s anything we can do to help you all out besides the obvious, say the word.” “Thanks. Both me and Mom appreciate that, but tell me, what’s all the latest in Willowdale Grove? I’ve been away for far too long.” Kevin smirked. “Not one darned thing. This place never changes. If we want fun then we have to make it ourselves.” He nudged Cliff. “Right?”

“Right.” “Sounds like a happening place and just the way I remembered it from my youth.” Eden rolled her eyes. “Cliff, you’re not from around here are you?” **** She would never have guessed that the Kevin that her mom had so often talked about was the Kevin whom she had dated for a short period during her senior year. He hadn’t changed much, and sitting and talking with him, she was glad to reconnect with him. Cliff, on the other hand, for some reason sparked her interest in another way, and she felt there was a story behind him. After all, didn’t everyone come with a story? “No, I moved to the area not long before I came to work here,” replied Cliff. “I’ve always had an interest in nature, so it’s been awesome to incorporate that into an actual job.” “It’s always a good thing to be happy with your work.” She reflected on her own job and wished she felt like Cliff. It wasn’t that she hated her job, but the long hours along with often difficult clients made it hard to maintain her enthusiasm when it repeated itself day after day. She was in need of a change, but even thinking about making any sort of a move scared the hell out of her. It was sad to admit, but she liked having a set routine in her life. “We should get back to work. It’s been great seeing you again,” said Kevin, excusing himself. “We should all hang out some night to catch up.” “With you two?” asked Eden. She could think of worse things to do in town rather than spend an evening with two handsome men. “Yeah, Cliff lives with me. We could get together. I grill like an SOB.” The offer appealed to her. “Sure, that sounds good.” “How about tomorrow evening?” asked Kevin. “Seven?”

“I’ll check with Mom, but I can’t see it being a problem.” She had her cell, and she’d make sure to have it turned on at all times in case she was needed. “I live out by Route Nine. It’s number twenty-eight Old South Bend Road. You’ll see the mailbox before you see the trailer.” She watched as Kevin went to fetch a piece of paper and pen from the shop’s counter. He scribbled down directions and handed them to her. “I jotted down my cell number in case you need it.” “It’s been great to finally meet you,” said Cliff. “I’ll see you tomorrow night.” He then walked off, leaving Kevin with her. “Nice guy,” she said, watching him leave, paying special attention to his cute butt bouncing underneath his well-worked jeans. “He’s quiet, but one heck of a worker and a great roommate. He doesn’t talk much about himself and I’m not one to pry. I prefer to let sleeping dogs lie.” “I’m sure he’ll open up in time. Maybe he has trust issues? We all have issues.” She smirked. “Some more than others.” She thought about her dismal dating record. “Anyway, I’ll see you tomorrow evening.” She heard her mom come back into the room, and after Kevin had left, Eden went to see what the other two ladies were up to at the counter. “Lurlene, you remember Eden.” The older lady smiled and nodded as she looked over the top of her glassed perched on the bridge of her nose. “Of course I do. How are you?” “I’m as good as can be expected,” replied Eden. “It’s a trying time,” added her mom. “But thank you, Lurlene, for putting so much time in here. If you need me for anything don’t hesitate to call me.” “You just take care of yourselves and Hank,” said Lurlene. “We’re fine. There’s no need to worry about anything here. Goodness, don’t leave yet. I’d forget my head if it wasn’t attached.” Lurlene left the counter and went into the back room only to return

with a gorgeous arrangement of sunflowers. “I’m not sure about the hospital’s policy on flowers, but I know Hank always held a fondness for sunflowers and they’re so darned cheerful.” “He’ll love them,” said her mom. “They’ll brighten up his room.” “And tell him we’re all keeping him in our thoughts.” “I’ll do that.” “Eden, it’s good to see you back here,” said Lurlene. “It’s good to be back.” She really meant it. It felt good to be home, even under these dire circumstances. It felt right. Maybe this was the change she needed to come about in her life. It was an interesting thought.

Chapter Four The call came in at 5:00 a.m., and Cleo wasn’t prepared for what the nurse had to say on the other end of the line as she sat in her kitchen. “What?” Cleo asked, needing to hear the same words again to confirm that what was happening was real. “What did you say?” “Your husband has taken a turn. It’s best for you to come immediately if you want to see him before he passes.” The nurse went silent awaiting her response. “Yes. Yes, I want to be there. We’re on our way,” she said. “Tell him we’re on our way.” Her voice started to crack, and she swallowed hard as the tears started to flow. “I’m on my way.” She slammed down the phone and cursed under her breath. She hadn’t expected this to happen so fast. “Eden,” she called. “Eden.” Her daughter emerged from the hall and walked into the kitchen. “What is it?” she asked, her voice full of concern. “Is it Dad?” “He’s taken a turn. That was the nurse calling. We have to go there, now. Get dressed and I’ll meet you in the car.” It was a surreal feeling, like some terrible movie playing out and she was the star player along with Hank. But this was real, her reality, and she dreaded to think about what was coming next. **** Instantly, Eden’s hand moved to cover her mouth as she entered her dad’s room at the hospital. “Oh, God,” she murmured. He looked so sick and small lying there.

“It’s okay.” She felt her mom’s hand on her shoulder. “We’ll get through this.” It wasn’t okay. This wasn’t okay. She wanted to turn and run right out the door again. She didn’t want to be here. She wanted to be anywhere but this vile place of sickness and death. “Dad,” she said, moving to the bed. “Dad, I’m here and so is Mom.” “Hank, we’re here. Squeeze my hand, honey.” Eden walked away from the bed. She couldn’t bear to look at him like this. “I’m going to go speak to his nurse,” she said. “I won’t be long.” At the nursing station she waited until an older nurse approached. “I’m Eden Burns,” she explained. “Hank Burns’s daughter. A nurse called my mom and asked us to come in. I’d like to speak to her.” “That would be Nicie.” The nurse turned and called out to a thin, young nurse who sat at the desk writing in a chart. “Nicie, this is Hank Burns’s daughter, Eden. She’d like to speak to you in regards to her dad.” Nicie nodded, and once she reached Eden, she motioned for Eden to follow her down the hallway. “We’ll talk in the quiet room,” she said, opening a door to allow Eden to enter first. Inside they both sat on a faux leather couch. “He’s dying,” said Eden. She didn’t see any sense in beating around the bush. “Yes,” replied Nicie. “The doctor has seen him and they upped his pain medication, but at this point it’s only a matter of time.” “He didn’t respond to me or my mom when we spoke to him.” She pulled a tissue from her purse. “Can he hear us?” “It’s been said that the hearing is the last to go. I’d like to think that he knows you’re both there with him. As medical staff, we are always mindful what we say around patients even when it appears they may not be aware. I look at it as a sign of respect. There is dignity in dying and we must remember that.”

“Is he in much pain? We don’t want him to suffer.” “He doesn’t show any signs of distress, and if he does, ring the call bell and we’ll see to him.” “Thank you. This is all new to me. I’ve never had anyone close to me,” she paused before saying the next word, “die. I was young when my grandparents passed away. I don’t remember them much.” “What you’re going through is normal. Allow yourself to feel what you feel. There is no right way to go through this,” said Nicie. “And if you need anything we’re just at the nursing station.” Eden thanked Nicie, and when she headed back to her dad’s room, she stopped outside the door when she heard her mom crying softly. She clenched her fists and opened the door slowly and, looking to the bed and the shell of the man she once knew as her dad was gone. “Dad?” she asked. “He’s gone. He just slipped away while I was talking to him.” Eden stood with her back against the door not knowing what to do or say. She opened her mouth, but the words wouldn’t come, so she did what Nicie had told her to do. She walked to the bed and rang the call bell. **** Two days later, Eden found out what it was like to go through the rigors of not only planning a funeral, but also seeing one played out during the stated time period. She sat and stared at her dad’s open casket in the funeral home and waited for the small service to begin. She felt her mom squeeze her hand, and together they held themselves up, each giving the other the strength to get through this awful time in their lives. All the staff from Eden’s Garden was in attendance, and she’d spoken briefly to each and every one of them, including Kevin and Cliff. “It’s hard to believe he’s gone,” said Kevin. “He’ll be missed.”

“He was a good man to all that knew him,” added Cliff. She smiled at the kind sentiment and ushered a quick thanks to each of them and the others who stood in line to offer their condolences. The rest of the service passed by, and at the graveside, she wished it to be over and done with. When the minister finished off the service with one last prayer, she was ready to go home and hide in her bedroom. “The staff from Eden’s Garden are coming back to the house for coffee,” said her mom as they walked out of the cemetery to the awaiting car. “Your dad would have liked that. It’s been a long day.” Eden agreed. “I miss him so much already. It doesn’t seem real.” “I know. I miss him, too.” **** Words didn’t come easily to him. Cliff stood back and watched Kevin and Eden from a distance as they chatted. He’d leave soon and make his way back home. It was quite the distance to walk, but the fresh air would do him good along with helping to clear his mind from the day’s events. Kevin looked rather cozy with Eden, and he guessed that there was still some sort of connection between the two. He was happy for the guy. He’d give anything to connect with another person like that, male or female. He finished the last of his second cup of coffee and decided it was time to call it a day. He waved to Kevin and pointed to the door to indicate that he was leaving. Kevin held up one hand to tell him to wait before coming across the room to him. “You’re leaving?” he asked. “Yeah, it’s been a long day.” “I’ll drive you,” said Kevin. “Gimme a second to tell Eden that we’re going.” “You don’t have to leave on my account.”

“It’s cool. I was thinking the same thing, but didn’t want to be rude. I’ll be right back. Don’t go anywhere.” **** “Death is a funny thing,” said Kevin as they drove home. “Funny isn’t a word I’d use to describe it.” Cliff looked out the passenger’s side window. “But it does make me wonder about my life as a whole. Like what’s important and stuff.” “What exactly are you wondering about?” Cliff had yet to tell him anything about his life. “Family mostly, or my lack of.” “You never talk about your family.” Cliff smirked. “That’s because I don’t have any to speak of. Okay, that’s not entirely true. My dad’s still living, but we don’t speak. My mom died some years ago and I have a sister that I haven’t seen since she ran away from home when she was eighteen.” This was the most information Kevin had ever heard come from Cliff’s mouth. “That’s hard…I mean it must be for you.” He pulled the car into the driveway that led to the trailer. “I admire the Burns for being so close.” “Me, too,” said Cliff. “That’s how a real family operates.” Inside the trailer Kevin got two beers from the fridge and tossed one to Cliff. “Family can come in other forms. I mean, you’re here and we’re friends. That’s kinda like family, right?” He sat on the couch, and when Cliff sat next to him, he felt that inner stirring in the pit of his stomach that often came whenever he was in close proximity with the guy, which was often. “You’re a good guy and I don’t think you realize that.” Cliff opened his beer. “I’m not so sure about that.” “Of course you are.” Kevin reached over and placed one hand on Cliff’s right shoulder. He squeezed gently. “I don’t really know you and I admit that, but I don’t get a bad vibe from you.” He moved his

hand from Cliff’s shoulder to his cheek, feeling the bristly stubble under his fingers. He was going out on a limb making the first move, yet it felt right. “What are you doing?” asked Cliff, but it didn’t go unnoticed to Kevin that he didn’t pull away. “Do you want me to stop? I will if you want me to. All you have to do is say the word. I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.” He waited for a response as he caressed the man’s cheek again. “I’m not sure,” said Cliff. Kevin scooted over on the couch closer to Cliff. “I’ve noticed you looking at me. I think you’re extremely attractive and I’d like for us to get to know each other a whole lot better.” His cock throbbed inside his trousers as he mulled the thought over. His hand moved from Cliff’s cheek to his chest, and slowly he started to unbutton his shirt. “Like I said, I’ll stop if you want me to.” Cliff closed his eyes and leaned into him. “I don’t.” “Don’t?” “I don’t want you to stop.” Cliff paused. “It feels good. I haven’t had anyone touch me in that way for a long time.” “That’s a pity. I think there’s much more to you than meets the eye. I thought that right away when we first met. You interest me.” Kevin slipped one hand around Cliff’s shoulders and pulled him in closer. “I’m going to kiss you now. Have you ever been kissed by another guy?” “No,” replied Cliff, his voice breathy. “Never.” “Then I promise to make it good.” Their noses touched as Kevin spoke. Cliff nodded. Kevin pressed his lips against Cliff’s, and slowly he slipped his tongue between them until their tongues merged together, teasing and toying. He moved his hands to the back of Cliff’s hair and felt his fingers entangle in his roommate’s silky locks. “That was…nice,” said Cliff when their kiss finally broke.

“The bedroom,” replied Kevin. He stood and held out his hand to help Cliff up from the couch. “This is only the beginning, handsome,” he warned, as they walked down the narrow hall and into his bedroom. **** Cliff’s heart thudded hard inside his chest. He sat on the edge of Kevin’s bed and watched as the man unbuttoned his shirt to reveal a rock-hard, defined chest sprinkled with just the slightest bit of hair. His eyes moved lower to the treasure trail that led down into Kevin’s trousers, which tented in front of him. Cliff licked his lips and swallowed, his mouth dry like cotton. “Don’t be nervous,” said Kevin. “We’ll do what feels good. There’s nothing wrong with that.” Kevin reached out and took Cliff’s hand and guided it to his bare chest. “Touch me. It’s okay.” He did want to touch him. He wanted to do so many things. The thoughts and possibilities coursed through his mind, furthering his excitement, and when Kevin finally pushed him back on the bed, he groaned as he felt the man’s tongue run across his lips. “Oh, God,” he muttered. “You’re so hot, Cliff. You don’t know how long I’ve watched you and wanted to be with you.” Kevin pulled open Cliff’s shirt, the snaps giving way one at a time. He lowered his head and took one nipple into his mouth and then moved to the other, tugging slightly with his teeth. Cliff felt his nipples harden as Kevin sucked on them. His cock threatened to burst through the confines of his trousers. Kevin looked up for a brief moment and grinned. Cliff felt a hand grab his cock. Kevin stroked him through the taut fabric. “Nice,” he said. “I love big cocks.” Cliff lifted his hips slightly as Kevin tugged at his belt. He felt it give way, and in one quick movement, his trousers were down around his knees, leaving him only in his boxer briefs. Kevin pulled off the

rest of his clothes, and Cliff licked his lips as he watched the nownude man take his place back on the bed next to him. “Jerk my cock,” said Kevin. “Jack me.” He nodded and reached over, his hands curling around Kevin’s thick cock. This was the first cock besides his own that he’d ever touched. It felt velvety under his touch, and he marveled at how it throbbed. “Nice cock,” Cliff whispered and then suddenly felt an insane urge to laugh, which he held back. He didn’t want to ruin the moment. “You, too, man.” Kevin’s hand was now inside Cliff’s underwear, and they slowly jerked each other as Kevin touched Cliff’s chest with his free hand. “Nice and slow. I don’t want to come yet. We have all the time in the world and I want this to last.”

Chapter Five “I want you to fuck me,” said Kevin. It had been a while since he’d been fucked, well over a year in fact. He’d visited one of the gay bars in the nearby city one weekend, and, well, that had led to a hot rendezvous with some hot young stud named Stefan who, in the end, had fucked him for two hours straight in his hotel room after the bar had closed. That night’s events had spawned many jerkoff sessions since, and he often wondered about Stefan and what he was doing now. “I’ve never done that,” said Cliff. “This is new for me.” Kevin grinned and reached across the bed to the nightstand. He handed Cliff a condom along with a tube of lube. “I promise not to be too hard on you. My ass is night and tight. You’ll love it. I want you inside me. I want to feel you sliding in and out of me. Just think of the connection we’ll have.” He rolled over on his stomach and raised his ass in the air. “I’ll guide you along.” When Cliff pressed into him, he let out a loud groan and closed his eyes as he gripped his pillow with both hands. He loved the feeling of having a cock inside him, but it always hurt at first. “Slow,” Kevin said. He did his best to relax as he pushed down to make it slightly easier for both of them to move through the process. “That’s good. You’re doing great, handsome. Slide in a little more.” He felt Cliff inch inside his ass, stretching him. The pain had subsided a little, and reaching between his legs, he gripped his cock and squeezed, feeling pleasure take hold of him. ****

Kevin gripped him like a hot, tight glove. Cliff held him by the hips, and slowly, he slid back and forth as Kevin had directed him to do. “Fuck,” he muttered, feeling fiery rivets of pleasure rush through his balls and subsequently through the rest of his body. Never could he have imagined that fucking a guy’s ass would have felt so good. “Give it to me. Fuck me with your big cock,” begged Kevin, writhing underneath as Cliff pushed into him. “Oh, man. That’s so good. Fuck me. Make me come while you screw me with your big dick.” Instinct caused him to reach down between Kevin’s legs, and when he grabbed the man’s cock and started to jerk it in unison with each thrust, Kevin moaned and called his name over and over. Cliff liked that. It brought a naughty grin to his lips as he increased his tempo, feeling his own orgasm rising. He grunted and pushed deeper, his grip on Kevin’s cock increasing. “Oh, man,” said Kevin, looking back over his left shoulder. “Fuck me. Don’t stop, you’re making me come!” Cliff felt hot cum explode across his fingers, and that was enough to send him over the edge along with Kevin pushing his ass back on his cock. He inhaled deep and let out a gasp of air as he felt cum explode from the tip of his cock. He gasped again and closed his eyes. He literally saw stars as he trembled, his cock embedded deep inside Kevin’s ass. “Sweet!” Cliff managed to say before pulling out and falling back on the bed next to his newly discovered lover. “That was beyond anything I’ve ever done before.” Kevin rolled on his side and smiled. “There’s a lot more where that came from. For someone with no experience, you fucked me like a champ.” Kevin reached between Cliff’s legs and grinned wickedly. “Your cock felt awesome inside of me.”

“I’m glad that I didn’t disappoint.” He pulled off the used condom and tossed it into the small trashcan next to bed. “It felt great being you know…inside you.” He honestly didn’t know what else to say. Kevin caught his gaze and shifted closer to him. “I think you’re something special.” He smiled and shrugged. “I’m nothing special, trust me. I’m average at best.” “Don’t underestimate yourself.” Kevin kissed him lightly on the lips and brushed his cheek with one hand. “I don’t know about you, but I’m starved.” “I could do with a bite.” “That’ll come later,” replied Kevin with a smirk. “Let’s shower first.” Cliff slid out of bed and stretched and watched Kevin do the same. Already his cock stirred as he followed Kevin into the bathroom, his ass wiggling just a little as he walked. He wanted him again. “See something you like?” asked Kevin as he adjusted the shower’s temperature. “Maybe.” God, he was flirting. This was like foreign territory for him. “Coy, I love it. Come here,” said Kevin as he stepped under the warm spray. They came together and kissed, their tongues merging. Kevin reached down between them and started to rub their cocks together, and he nibbled Cliff’s neck. It was time for round two.

Chapter Six A week had passed, and Eden still couldn’t face the harsh reality that her dad was gone. It was unimaginable to think that she’d never see or talk with him again. During the seven days that had gone by since his funeral she found her mind enveloped in a self-induced fog. Nothing seemed real, and at times she thought that it wasn’t, that it was all just some sick joke that would end and her dad would come home, and they’d pretend that none of it ever happened. It was an absurd thought, and the more she thought about it, the more she knew she had to break free and bring herself back into the real word again no matter how hard it was to do. After she poured a cup of coffee, Eden went into the living room where she found her mom sitting, talking on the phone. When the woman hung up a silence slid between them for a moment before either spoke. “That was your aunt Sheila. She called to see how we were getting on. She couldn’t make the funeral and was torn up about it. She was always close to your dad, even when they were growing up.” Eden hadn’t seen her aunt Sheila in over ten years. “How’s she doing?” “Well, it hasn’t been easy for her since Pat died last year. She misses him just like I miss your dad. It’s a huge adjustment to make when you lose a spouse who’s been such a big part of your life since forever.” She smiled. “She’s asked me to come to Florida to stay with her for a while. She thinks it would do us both good to not be alone.”
Eden’s Garden

“You’re not alone. I’m here and I have no plans on leaving yet for a while.” “Of course, but you have your own life. You can stay here for as long as you like, but this town and this house…I think it would do me good to get away. There are so many memories here and I’m not ready to face them yet. Do you understand what I’m saying?” She did. “There were only two things in this world that I ever really loved and that’s you and your dad. I know I don’t often show my emotions, but that’s always been hard for me. My parents never showed me much love outwardly. I know they loved me, there’s no doubt about that, but it just wasn’t something they were that open about. I’m rambling now and losing my train of thought.” “I do understand, more than you realize,” said Eden. “If you think it would help things to go, then go. This isn’t easy for either of us. I miss him so much.” “Your dad loved you so much and he was so proud of your life accomplishments. I know he was thrilled that you returned home to see him. It meant a lot to not only him, but also to me.” A lump formed in Eden’s throat, but she refused to allow her emotions to overtake her. “I loved him, too,” she managed to say. She stood from where she sat. “I need to get some fresh air. I’m going for a walk.” **** Outside the warm breeze washed over Eden. She didn’t know exactly where she was going, but in the end she decided to go to Sutter’s Creek, which ran directly through the town. She played there as a girl, and as she walked on, she remembered the many games she played like pretending she was a princess of some faraway mythical land.

“Princess Mia,” she said aloud as she turned off the street and walked down a wooded lane that would eventually lead her into a small clearing and the creek. In the distance she heard the water moving and then male voices talking. Eden stopped dead in her tracks and moved from the dirt path into the woods and farther through into the brush. She smiled as she recognized one of the voices to be Kevin’s. “That’s great,” he said. She peered out from behind a large bush and covered her mouth in surprise as she spotted the bare backside of another man who stepped out of his jeans, tossing them aside along with his T-shirt. Cliff! “Man, that’s cold.” She watched as Cliff dipped his toe into the swirling water. “I hope there are not any snakes or snappers in there.” “Snappers?” asked Kevin. He laughed and, with one broad stroke of his muscled arm, splashed water in Cliff’s direction. “Those little turtles. I’ve heard they bite really hard,” explained Cliff. “Stop making excuses and get in here.” Eden stifled back a fit of laughter, and try as she might, she couldn’t tear her eyes away from the scene playing out in front of her. “It’s cold,” said Cliff as he waded into the water. “You’re being silly. Be a man.” Kevin let out a little growl and moved toward Cliff. She leaned forward to get a better look, and when a tree branch snapped under her foot, she froze as both men turned in her direction. She didn’t dare move or breathe. She didn’t think they could see her. “Who’s there?” called Kevin. Eden moved from the bushes into the clearing with both hands held in the air over her head. “I’m sorry.” Cliff moved farther into the water, and Kevin grinned as he eyed her along with Cliff. “Were you spying on us?” She blushed and lowered her eyes to the ground. “I was just coming down here to relax and I heard voices. I didn’t want to intrude

on anything.” The truth was she was spying on them and rather liked it. “Why don’t you come in? The water’s real fine.” Kevin winked and Cliff smiled. “It’s nice once you’re in it,” added Cliff. “Refreshing.” “I can’t,” she replied. “Why not?” asked Kevin. “I don’t have a swimsuit.” “Neither did either of us. Strip down and jump in. We’ll turn our heads to preserve your dignity.” Cliff laughed and turned away from her to face the other direction. “We both promise not to look.” Did she dare? It had been so long since she’d done anything wild and impulsive. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. What if someone were to come by?” “Let them come, but if it helps to ease your mind, no one comes here anymore,” said Kevin. “You do,” she scoffed. “I remember this place from my youth. Hell, it was the place to go and hide out from our parents and to do other things.” “Are you done undressing yet?” asked Cliff. Kevin chuckled. “She’s won’t do it. You can turn around. She doesn’t have the nerve to jump in here with us.” “Nerve? What are you, thirteen?” asked Eden. She raised one brow and planted both hands on her hips. “You think that calling me chicken is somehow going to persuade me?” “I think nothing of the sort, but it’s a rather hot day out and the water’s nice.” “God, you don’t let up, do you?” She pulled her T-shirt up and over her head and unbuttoned her shorts. “Turn your heads away, both of you.” She couldn’t believe she was actually doing it, but the thought of getting naked with these two men was rather sexy. She liked the idea more than she cared to admit to. She shimmied out of her shorts and

decided to keep her panties on, and after she shrugged out of her bra, she made her way to the creek. **** Kevin turned around slightly just as Eden slid into the water, her more than ample breasts glimmering underneath the late-afternoon sun creeping down through the tree branches overhead. Her nipples were darker than the rest of her skin. Even under water his cock started to stiffen just knowing that she didn’t see him stealing a glance at her naked flesh. The slow-moving water swirled around him, and when he looked at Cliff they both shared a knowing look. He was still learning more about Cliff. He guessed his newfound lover was bisexual and found Eden as attractive as he did from the approving glances that Cliff gave her as Eden moved toward them. “You’re not so bold now,” said Eden. She stood in front of him with Cliff off to his side with just her shoulder rising from the water. “But you’re right. It’s really nice in here.” She tilted her head back and looked up at the sky. “I’ve lived in the city for far too long. I forgot how beautiful it is here.” “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” He was erect. He looked at Cliff and smiled. “You haven’t changed much.” Eden laughed. “I have and don’t try and sweet-talk me.” She loved the attention coming from him. It wasn’t hard to see that. “It isn’t sweet talk. I’m shamelessly flirting with you. You’re beautiful and Cliff agrees with me.” He slid one arm around Cliff’s shoulder, and together they moved closer to her. “Just exactly what do you two have in mind?” asked Eden. She didn’t move away from them, and when they moved closer to her again, Kevin reached out and caressed the side of her neck. She fell into his touch. “Feels good.” She nodded.

The three now stood in a circle facing each other, and for a moment, no words were said. They stared at each other, and with one hand now wrapped around Cliff’s waist under the water, Kevin did the same to Eden. He leaned in and brushed his lips across hers at first, and when she opened her mouth slightly, he slipped his tongue inside. “We shouldn’t be doing this,” said Eden, after their kiss ended. “If someone should stumble on us…” “You worry too much.” “Maybe.” He kissed her again, and afterwards, he leaned into Cliff’s ear. “Kiss her like I did,” he ordered. He grabbed Cliff’s erection and stroked it gently. “Kiss her nice and slow.” **** Cliff was a stark contrast to Kevin with his dark features and mysterious air about him. Eden’s pussy ached as Cliff took her in his arms, his hands resting against the small of her back as they embraced. “Hi,” he said, a boyish grin crossing his full lips. “It’s great seeing you again.” Eden looked into his dark-brown eyes and pressed her breasts into his firm chest. Her nipples hardened, and she felt his hard cock brushing against her pubic mound with only the wet fabric of her satin panties separating their hot flesh. It had been so long since she’d had a man touch her and hold her. She wanted this more than she cared to admit. When she felt Cliff’s tongue slip into her mouth, she groaned and felt her clit harden with desire. Another set of hands wrapped around her from behind. Kevin nibbled her earlobe as his cock pressed into her ass, his hands on her breasts. She was sandwiched!

Chapter Seven Cliff pulled back slightly when he heard a rustling in the bushes. “Something’s in the woods,” he said. He peered at the edges of the creek, but spotted nothing. Yet, he had the feeling they were being watched just as Eden had feared. “It’s nothing,” said Kevin. “Just some animal or some nosey bastard.” Eden broke away from them and moved to the shore. “This isn’t the place for this.” Cliff watched as she started to dress. “She’s right,” he said to Kevin. “If anyone in town should catch wind of this or even us,” he lowered his voice as he said the latter part, “it wouldn’t be a good thing. You know how small towns are.” “Our place, tonight,” called Kevin. “I’ll barbeque and expect you around seven.” “Maybe,” said Eden. She slipped into her shorts and put on her bra. “I’ll think about it.” She smirked and then walked off, leaving them alone. “What a woman,” said Kevin, his eyes wide with amusement. “Let’s get the hell outta here.” They both emerged from the creek and dried off using their Tshirts before pulling on their jeans. Cliff couldn’t take his eyes off Kevin. He was so drawn to him and even more so now since they’d become intimate with each other. Hell, he was always ready to go whenever Kevin wanted him to, which was often, he was glad to say.

“Do you think we freaked her out?” Cliff asked as they walked the path back to the road. “Naw. From the way she responded to us, she liked both of us giving her attention. Did you like it…Cliff?” asked Kevin. He did. Once again it was all new to him, but kissing Eden was much different than kissing Kevin, and she felt different, softer and suppler. “Yes.” “Tonight’s going to be interesting.” Kevin slapped Cliff’s ass. “We need beer. We’ll stop off at the Mini Mart on the way home.” **** What the hell had she been thinking? Eden shook her head as she walked back home and thought about the events that had happened back at the creek with Kevin and Cliff. That was one heck of a surprise. She’d never done anything so wild and impulsive like that before. If it wasn’t for their little interruption she knew it would have gone a lot further, and deep inside she wanted it to. She’d always been the good girl. She always colored inside the lines as a kid, and in many ways that still played out in her adult life. Good girls often went bad. Was she starting to cross that line? A good, safe job, a nice apartment with a decent roommate and friend…She rarely dated because that meant losing the routine that she relished. Yet, here she was and there was no doubt that something was missing in her life. Perhaps she was becoming more aware of it now since her dad’s untimely death. Death had a way of forcing people to reflect on their own lives and mortality. She didn’t want to live full of regrets. Back at the house, she found her mom in her bedroom pulling clothes out of her closet. “You’re going to Florida?” she asked, assuming the obvious.

“Yes, then when I come back maybe I can face life again.” Her mom pulled one of her dad’s sport coats from the closet. “I have to get rid of his clothes, but I can’t bear to think about it.” She held it up to her face and brushed the fabric against her cheek. “It smells like him, and if I close my eyes, I can almost imagine he’s still here.” “You do what you need to do,” Eden replied. “It’s going to take us both a lot of time to get through this.” “Eden, I hope that when you do find true love that’s it for you like it was for me and your dad. Love comes in many forms, and embrace it when you get it. Don’t let anyone persuade you from what you want in life. Joy seems like a nice woman.” “Joy?” Surely her mom didn’t think she was carrying on a romantic relationship with her best friend and roommate? “Yes. I’m sure she’s a lovely person.” “You think I’m in a relationship with Joy?” “Well…yes. I assumed since you live together and you often mention her.” “Mom, I’m not a lesbian. Joy’s a good friend, roommate, and nothing more,” she explained. “Oh, dear. I must seem awfully backwoods and stupid to you.” Eden smiled. “Not at all. I can see how you’d think that. I don’t date that often.” “The right man will come along. Kevin seems fond of you. He always asked how you were doing.” “Kevin’s a nice guy. He invited me over tonight for a BBQ with him and Cliff.” “Did he? How nice of him. You’ll go?” “I think so. It’s been good reconnecting with him and I like Cliff. He’s a nice guy.” “Yes, your dad hired him right away and we’ve had no complaints about his work. Go and enjoy yourself.” ****

“I liked watching you kiss her,” said Kevin. He embraced Cliff from the back, taking him by surprise in his bedroom, fresh from the shower. He inhaled the fresh scent of Cliff’s bodywash and pressed his hard cock against the man’s towel-encased buttocks. He ran one hand up Cliff’s chest and felt him quiver just a little under his touch as his breathing increased. “Tell me how much you like it when I touch you, handsome.” Cliff nodded. “I like it…a lot.” “That’s not good enough. I really want to know how you feel.” He reached down and unwrapped the towel from Cliff’s waist. “Tell me. Tell me what you’d like for me to do to you.” “I’d like for you to suck me,” said Cliff, his voice low. Kevin spun him around and then sank to his knees in front of his lover and roommate. He grabbed Cliff’s cock and kissed the tip. “You want me to suck your cock?” He looked up and caught Cliff’s gaze. “Watch me while I suck your cock.” Kevin ran his tongue up and down Cliff’s throbbing shaft, and then he went for it, taking all eight inches down his throat and didn’t stop until his gag reflex kicked in. His eyes watered as he did it again and again. He felt Cliff buck his hips slightly back and forth as small moans escaped his lips. He wanted to make Cliff feel good. The only thing on his mind currently was pleasing this hot and sexy man. “Oh, God,” said Cliff as he watched him. “Man, I’m going to come.” Cliff’s hands tried to push him away, but he was having none of that. He stayed in place and sucked harder and deeper. He wanted to taste Cliff. He wanted to feel this hard cock spasm and unload inside his mouth. Kevin reached down and pulled his cock free from his jeans and jacked it. “I’m fucking coming,” said Cliff, his chest heaving in and out. “Take it. Yeah suck my huge cock.”

Kevin pulled back enough to keep the head inside his mouth, and as he tongued it, he felt hot cum spray from the velvety tip. He moaned and swallowed as he felt a little escape his mouth and dribble to his chin. His cock throbbed and ached to let loose with his own orgasm, and with five more strokes he felt it grab hold. He popped Cliff’s now-spent cock from his mouth and leaned back as hot ropes of cum flew from the tip of his cock, landing on his chest. “That was…I’ve never,” stammered Cliff, sitting on the edge of the bed. He smiled. “You blow my mind sometimes.” Kevin stood and zipped up before going to him. “I like you, Cliff. I mean that in the truest sense of the word when I say that and I think it has the possibility to develop into something wonderful if you’re open to it.” He nearly held his breath after saying those few brave words. He felt something for Cliff, but was it love? He wasn’t sure, not yet, as it was too soon to tell. “It’s hard living around these parts and life for a man like me can get lonely. I was never into one nighters and crap like that. I want something more stable and real.” He was laying it all out there now. “I like you, too. It’s new for me, everything. I’ve never been wanted by anyone, not even my parents. Hell, until I came here I sorta roamed through life never connecting with anyone. I’m not sure what I want, Kevin.” Cliff stopped for a second before he continued on. “I do know one thing. It feels nice being with you and living here.” “Then it’s all good.” He motioned to the bathroom. “We still have a little time before Eden shows. We should shower again.” He grinned. “I’ll race ya!”

Chapter Eight Eden pulled the car into the driveway leading to the trailer. She glanced at her watch as she put the car in park and settled back in her seat wondering what in the hell she was doing here. Her dad had just died and all she could think about was what had happened earlier today with the two men who had come so quickly into her life. “This isn’t good,” she said aloud. “Just turn around and go back home.” She knew it was the sensible thing to do, but something else inside her spurred her on as she exited the car and made her way toward the trailer. At first she waited outside the door expecting for one of the two men to greet her. She glanced at her watch when no one came. She was on time. She knocked once and waited a couple of minutes before knocking again. No one. Eden wondered what to do next and then opened the door. “Hello?” she called out, not seeing anyone in her immediate vicinity as she found herself in a small combined kitchen-and-living area. It was a bachelor’s paradise, and she smiled thinking about the two men living here in their own little private heaven together. From the narrow hallway she heard water running. Someone was showering. “Kevin?” she called as she took a few steps and spotted the half-open bathroom door. Did she dare go any farther? That’s when she heard it, soft moaning along with words she couldn’t quite make out. Did Kevin have a girlfriend or perhaps Cliff? She hadn’t heard either mention one. She pushed the bathroom door open farther, and what she saw caused her to bring one hand up to her mouth to cover her initial

surprise. Through the transparent shower curtain she watched as the two men kissed, their arms entwined around the other. She took a step back and stumbled. “Shit,” she said as she caught her hand on the doorframe. It was too late for her to make a hasty exit. They’d heard her. Kevin pulled back the shower curtain first, and with his mouth gaped open along with Cliff’s, neither of them said anything as they stood there looking at each other. Cliff stepped from the shower and grabbed a towel, subsequently wrapping it around his waist. “Eden, what are you doing here?” asked Kevin, finally. “I…Well, you invited me and there was no answer when I knocked,” she explained, still in total awe. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have intruded on your privacy like this.” She turned and started off down the hallway with Kevin trailing after her. “I’ll leave. Forget I ever came here.” “No, it’s okay. I should have told you about us,” said Kevin. He reached out and grabbed her from behind. “Stop! We need to talk about this.” “You don’t have to explain anything to me.” He really didn’t. She had no right to judge him or Cliff for the way they lived their lives. “I wish I had known. I wouldn’t have made a fool out of myself at the creek.” “You didn’t and you’re right. I should have said something,” said Kevin. Cliff walked around them and sat in a chair in the living area. “Let’s sit and have a chat.” Kevin motioned to the couch. Eden sat and waited to hear whatever Kevin had to say with open ears. She looked from one man to the other. Neither looked gay. God! That was a stupid assumption. To assume someone had to look gay if they were was utterly backwoods, and what did gay look like anyway? “You’re a couple,” she said, opening the conversation. Kevin looked to Cliff and raised one brow. “Are we?” Cliff shrugged. “Something like that.”

“Yeah, something like that,” agreed Kevin. “We would have told you tonight anyway.” “I didn’t have a clue,” said Eden. “I would never have guessed.” “Because we don’t look the part? I’ve always been bisexual,” said Kevin. “I met Cliff and we shared a mutual attraction. It sorta just happened, but we like what we have.” “Bisexual?” Eden wasn’t sure if she completely understood what being bisexual really meant. “Yes. I have an attraction to both men and women. I’m more about the person. It’s hard to explain.” She was trying to understand, and Kevin had piqued her interest. She sat back in the chair and crossed her legs. “And you?” she asked, glancing at Cliff. “I’m still figuring myself out,” replied Cliff. “But you both were attracted to me. Like at the creek?” She reflected on the moment they had shared. “Just to let you know, I’m not normally like that.” “Like what?” asked Kevin. “I thought you enjoyed the attention we gave to you. I know we both certainly did.” She squirmed a little and remembered how it had felt to kiss Cliff while Kevin touched her at the same time. “It wasn’t that I didn’t enjoy it.” “Then what’s the problem? Are you concerned about what others might think if they found out that you might like having two men paying attention to you at once?” She smirked. “That was a first for me.” Kevin laughed. “But you didn’t answer the question. I understand how you feel. Nobody knows about us here in this town and we plan on keeping it that way. Some people are just not accepting and they can make things hard for us. We don’t want that. It’s our business what we do in private with each other.” He made a good point. “Could I have a glass of water? My throat’s a little dry.”

“Sure, we also have beer.” Kevin walked into the kitchen area and paused at the fridge. “What’ll it be?” “A beer sounds good.” She felt slightly more relaxed. “My guess is my mom doesn’t know about you two?” Cliff shook his head. “No. We haven’t told anyone.” “You both don’t have to worry. I won’t say a thing,” she reassured them. “This is your business and I respect that.” “I’m glad to hear it.” Kevin handed her a beer and readjusted the towel wrapped around his waist. “We should get dressed.” He nodded to Cliff and then grinned sheepishly. “We won’t be long and when I get back I’ll start grilling.” **** “She seems cool with us,” said Kevin once he’d shut the bedroom door. “I guess,” said Cliff. “She scared the hell out of me showing up like that. My heart almost popped out of my chest when I saw her standing there looking at us.” “Yeah, I had the same reaction.” Kevin reached out and caressed Cliff’s chest. “Everything’s fine and no harm was done. At least she knows about us.” The truth was he had plans for Eden and Cliff tonight anyway. He thought about what it had been like touching her in the creek. He wanted that again, and he wanted her. He wanted to experience what he hadn’t all those years ago. “She’s really pretty.” Cliff stepped into a pair of faded jeans. “How involved were you two?” “It wasn’t much of anything. We dated briefly and she dumped me for some jock.” “She dumped you?” asked Cliff. “She must have been insane. If I had known you back in high school, it could have made things a whole lot easier and quite interesting.”

“You’d better believe it.” Kevin grabbed Cliff’s backside. “Fire up the grill and I’ll finish dressing.” **** Eden sat back on a lawn chair and nursed her beer while she watched Kevin grill. Cliff stood off to the side aiding as his assistant. She watched as the two men interacted with each other, and it amused her as she thought of them working together much like a well-oiled machine. There was also something rather arousing observing them. She would have blamed it on the beer for making her feel like this, but since it was only her second, she could hardly use that as a crutch. “How do you like ’em?” asked Kevin, motioning to the steaks on the grill. “What?” she asked, stirring from her thoughts. “Well, medium, or rare?” “Medium. I don’t like it when they’re overcooked.” She took a sip of beer and looked at her surroundings. “It’s gorgeous out here. You guys have quite the spot.” “I love it out here. The best thing is the privacy. We can do just about anything without having any neighbors bothering us,” said Kevin. “By the way, how’s your mom doing? She hasn’t been around the nursery.” “She’s doing better,” said Eden. “It’s hard for her without Dad. They were practically joined at the hip. It’ll take time for her to get over this. She’s heading to Florida now to spend time with family. I think it will be good for her. I can’t remember the last time she bothered to take a vacation.” “Good for her,” said Kevin. “But vacations are so overrated. Who wants all that sun and sand?” He rolled his eyes. “I’d take it in a heartbeat!” “Me, too,” chimed Cliff.

“I’m pretty sure she’ll come back refreshed and ready to dig back in at work when she returns.” That was her mom’s way—never let anything bring her down. “She’s a strong woman.” Kevin turned the steaks over on the grill. “I admire her for that.” “She thinks the sun shines on both of you guys,” said Eden. “She’s constantly telling me how hard you all work there.” “We do our jobs and we like working there, so that makes it a heck of a lot easier.” Kevin shrugged. “I can’t think of anywhere else I’d like to work.” He stepped back from the grill and eyed his handiwork. “I think these are right about done. Now for the sweet corn.”

Chapter Nine After they’d eaten they sat in the living area listening to music and drinking more beer. “A rose between two thorns,” said Eden, sitting between the two men. “It’s an old saying.” “In this case,” replied Kevin, “I’d say that’s pretty accurate.” He moved closer to her and slid one arm around her shoulders. “God, you’re still as attractive as ever.” “Not really, but thanks for the kind words.” “Why would you think anything less about yourself?” He shot her a perplexed look. “You have everything in life. You’re gorgeous and you have a wonderful career. Your mom frequently mentions you and so did your dad.” “Yup, I seem to have it all.” A little hint of sarcasm tinged her voice. “But looks can be deceiving.” “You’re not happy with your life?” asked Cliff. “I wouldn’t quite say that. I think I’ve become stuck in a rut somewhere along the way,” she admitted. “I thought living in the city would bring all kinds of opportunity my way and change my life for the better, and in a way it has, I guess.” “Then what’s the issue?” asked Kevin. “The issue is that things didn’t turn out like I planned them.” She thought about that statement and then took a sip of beer. “I dislike my job, the city scares me more often than not, and…I’ve never come close to having a relationship with a man.” “How about a woman?” Kevin raised one brow. “Why does everyone think I’m a lesbian?” First her mom and now Kevin? “Do I send off a vibe or something?”

“Your mom had hinted at it on a couple of occasions. She said you were very close with the woman you lived with. I think her name’s Joy?” “We’re roommates and friends, nothing more.” She couldn’t wait to tell Joy this once she returned to the city. “I’ll make sure to send Joy your regards.” She rolled her eyes. “Should everyone in town just assume that you guys are a couple because you live together and are friends? Okay, that’s not the best example, but you get the gist of what I’m getting at. People shouldn’t assume things about others when they don’t really know them. I’m not like a book. I’m far from easy to read.” “You need to think less.” Kevin pressed one finger against her lips to keep her silent. Eden felt another hand on her thigh, and she turned her head slightly to see Cliff watching her intently. His hand moved higher, and when it came to rest on her left breast, she didn’t do anything to stop him or Kevin, who now massaged the other. “What are you both doing?” she asked. She didn’t want either of them to stop. Her pussy ached for attention. It had been too damned long since she was given any. “I think you know,” whispered Kevin. “That’s why you came here, right?” That wasn’t entirely true. Maybe in the dark recesses of her mind she thought and wished for this to happen, but that hadn’t been her sole reason for coming here, and she kept telling herself that over and over. She started to answer his question and stopped, knowing that any answer she’d give would come out sounding pathetic and futile. Kevin looked to Cliff and motioned to the back of the trailer. “Let’s take her to the bedroom.” She went willingly with them, and when she sat on the edge of the bed with the two handsome men standing before her, she wondered what would come next.

Kevin pulled her top over her head, and Cliff knelt before her, pulling at the hem of her shorts. She lifted her hips to aide him, and now just in her bra and panties, she felt very exposed, more so than she had at the creek. Kevin stepped forward while Cliff sat next to her. “We’re going to take good care of you. If you have any objections you’re free to leave. I don’t want to coerce you into doing anything you don’t feel comfortable with. This all has to be a mutual thing.” Things were moving fast, but leaving now wasn’t an option. She reached out and pulled at the waist of Kevin’s jeans. “I’m not doing anything I don’t want to do,” she said. Her heart pounded hard inside her chest, and she licked her lips as she undid his belt buckle. “You’re full of surprises.” Kevin pulled his T-shirt off and tossed it on the bed. Eden glanced up, and once again she was taken with his fine physique. She guessed that all the hard physical activity he’d done at Eden’s Garden helped work him into shape, not that he’d ever been shabby in that department, she guessed. Kevin was the type of guy who always looked good, even when he first rolled out of bed in the morning. She reached up and ran her hand across his torso and felt his muscles clench underneath the tips of her fingers. She then watched as he reached inside the open fly of his jeans, and when he presented his hard cock to her, she felt her pussy twinge with desire for him. “Lay back on the bed,” he ordered. “Cliff, help her out of her panties.” Eden shifted back on the bed and blushed just a little as Cliff hooked his thumbs into the waist of her panties, and in one hard yank, he had them around her ankles, exposing her to him totally. Kevin caressed her cheek as he knelt next to her on the bed, his cock just inches from her mouth. He ran one finger across her lips and then slipped it inside. “That’s it, suck on my finger.”

She toyed with him, teasing him to the best of her ability, and when she felt Cliff pushing her legs apart, she groaned as he spread her pussy lips open and ran his tongue over her engorged clit. “She likes that,” said Kevin. “Keep doing that and watch her squirm. Get her nice and wet for us.” **** Kevin smiled as he rubbed his cockhead against Eden’s full lips. “Suck my cock,” he said, watching her, their eyes meeting as she opened her mouth and took him inside. He leaned toward her slightly and pressed forward. “That’s real good.” He closed his eyes for a moment, and when he opened them again, he looked to Cliff and grinned. “Eat her cunt. I wanna see her come.” Cliff pulled his head away from Eden’s pussy, his lips slick with her juices. “You should have a go at her. She’s so hot and tight.” Eden moaned when he said this, and after he inserted a second finger inside her cunt, he tried a third and starting fucking her hard. Kevin watched the hot scene play before him, and he knew he had to fuck Eden. He had to feel her clenched around his cock, her pussy massaging him. “I am so going to fuck you hard,” he explained. “And Cliff, too!” She nodded in agreement and took him deeper down her throat. **** Cliff was engrossed with the sight of his fingers sliding in and out of Eden’s pussy. He tongued her clit and with his free hand, reached down to jack his cock, which now jutted from the fly of his jeans. “Oh God,” he heard Eden say. He looked up and watched her jack Kevin’s cock, her eyes closed and her mouth open. “Fuck me,” she begged. “I need one of you to fuck me hard!”

“Your wish is our command.” Kevin moved down to join him, but before he did, he reached into the nightstand for condoms and lube. He winked as he tossed one to Cliff. “I have an idea. Lie on your back and let her ride you.” Cliff did as he was told and in the process slid the condom over his cock and applied a little lube. He bit down on his bottom lip when Eden straddled him. The feeling was incredible. She was hotness, and the friction of his cock sliding in and out of her cunt was out of this world. “Lean back a little,” he heard Kevin say to Eden. “If it’s too much for you just tell me and we’ll stop.” “I’ve never had two men at once,” she professed. “This is a first for me and I’m not sure if it’s going to work.” “I want us to both fuck you for the first time.” Kevin’s voice was softer now and more soothing as he explained this to her. “I want you to enjoy this just as much as we do.” Cliff didn’t move as he felt Kevin pushing into Eden’s pussy to join him, and as she grunted and moved slightly to adjust to their girths, he held onto her hips to keep her in place. “Oh my!” she exclaimed. “That’s just—” Cliff heard her suck in a deep breath. “Are we hurting you?” asked Kevin, his voice full of concern. “No. Please go slow, but don’t stop.”

Chapter Ten Two men fucking her! If someone had told her a month ago that this would be happening she wouldn’t have ever believed them. In fact, she would have laughed right out at the very idea of it. Wasn’t that damned near impossible? She welcomed Kevin’s lips as he kissed her hard and deep, his tongue just as demanding as the two cocks fucking her pussy. “Fuck me,” she said, breaking the kiss, his hot breath on her cheek. She clutched at his chest and pulled him to her, her fingernails raking over his back as she curved both arms up and over his broad shoulders. With both men pressing their cocks inside her, pushing them in and out, she felt like the three of them had become one. She moaned and tossed her head back as she looked up to the ceiling. “Oh, my,” she announced. “I’m going to come.” She felt intense heat rise through her groin, and as she bucked her hips slowly to meet their movements, she allowed the sensational feeling to wash over her in waves. “That’s it, babe,” said Kevin. “Come for us.” He pushed into her and groaned, as did Cliff shortly thereafter, and when they were done, the three of them collapsed on the bed lying next to each other. “That was,” she hesitated, “well beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before.” Her pussy tingled with that awesome feeling that came after great sex. She bit down on her bottom lip and felt extremely naughty. “We’ll have to do this again.” She blushed. Did she actually say that out loud for them to hear?

Cliff snorted, and when she turned to face him, he held an amused look on his face. “What?” she asked. “I was thinking the same thing,” he replied, a silly and slightly goofy look painted across his handsome face. “That was a first for me.” “It’s a first for all three of us,” added Kevin. “Hopefully, it won’t be the last before you return to the city.” Between these two men, men she now knew intimately, Eden felt a sense of safety. It wasn’t love or anything remotely like it, but at the same time there was something deep inside her that felt right about being here with them like this. The thoughts of heading back to the city floated into her mind and she vowed to forget about that for now. All she wanted was to enjoy this moment, and as two hands caressed her in just about every place imaginable, she closed her eyes and did exactly that. **** When Eden woke, it was dark, and for a second she didn’t remember where she was. She looked at both men flanking her. Their breathing was soft and even, and she assumed they were asleep as she slipped to the bottom of the bed to escape. What had she done? This wasn’t right and certainly not normal! This wasn’t her! Regret filled her as she found her clothes and dressed, her head pounding slightly from the aftereffects of the beer she’d drunk earlier that night. Driving home, all sorts of thoughts messed around in her mind. How could she have been so silly and irrational to allow herself to be taken by two men? She needed a drink. No, that was the last thing she needed. She shouldn’t have been drinking in the first place and that was what likely loosened her up enough to go against her better

judgement. It never happened! That was it and that would be her game plan from this night on. It just didn’t happen. **** Cleo was in the hallway by the time Eden had unlocked the front door, and, clutching her bathrobe, she was anxious to see how her daughter’s night out with the boys had gone. “How was it?” she asked as Eden locked the door behind her. “Did you all have a good time?” “It went well,” replied Eden. Her response was curt and to the point. “We talked, we ate and had a couple of drinks, and we talked more. I lost track of time and here I am home again.” “There’s something wrong.” Cleo examined her daughter’s appearance closely under the dim lighting. Her mascara was running, which meant she’d been crying. “What happened? Did they do something to upset you?” Eden led her into the kitchen and fumbled with the coffeemaker to set it to brew. “It’s nothing. I’ve just had a hard night. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about me and my so-called life. And there’s Dad.” “Of course.” Cleo went to her and retrieved the coffee from the cupboard. “Sit and let me do that.” “You must think I’m a mess.” “I don’t think anything of the sort. I do think you’re too hard on yourself. Are you sure nothing didn’t happen out there tonight with Kevin and Cliff? They didn’t try anything with you, did they?” If they did, she’d deal with them in her own way. Nobody messed with her girl! “No. It’s nothing to do with them.” “Well, why don’t you get some sleep? Rest always helps a person to see things better and clearer in the morning.” Eden nodded. “You’re right.” She got up from the table and left the kitchen. “Sleep well.”

**** As the morning sunlight curled around the curtains in the bedroom, Kevin was the first to rise. Immediately, he noticed that Eden had left them, and when he looked out the window fronting the trailer he guessed she’d gone home at some point after the three of them had passed out. To his left, Cliff lay snoring, looking mighty sexy with his hair all in a rather styled state of disarray, a half grin on his face. He nudged him. “Did you notice when Eden left?” Kevin asked. Cliff stretched and squinted. “I didn’t know she’d gone. When did she leave?” “That’s what I’m asking you.” “Sorry. I guess she left when we were sleeping.” Kevin raised one brow. “You think?” He got out of bed and pulled on his jeans. “I hope last night didn’t freak her out.” “She probably had things to do,” said Cliff. “I wouldn’t worry.” **** “How long are you staying?” asked Eden’s mom as they both sat in the kitchen mulling over their individual plans for the next couple of weeks as they ate breakfast. “I’m not sure yet. I was thinking about hanging around for a bit.” Eden hadn’t put a whole lot of thought into much of anything, and after last night’s events with the guys, she was left in a state of utter confusion. “Why do you ask?” “Well, my flight leaves this evening for Florida and I wanted to know if you were going to stay here at the house.” “Would that be a problem?” “Of course not. You can stay here for as long as you like. This will always be your home. You know that. Would you like a refill?” She motioned to Eden’s coffee cup. “You look like you could use it.”

“I could use another.” She pushed her scrambled eggs around on the plate with a fork. “I’m not sure when I’ll head back to work, but I guess I can’t stay off for too long. We all gotta work. That’s a part of life for most of us.” “If you’re looking to keep busy while you’re here, you could work at the nursery. There’s always lots to do there,” suggested her mom. “I just might.” Thought the thought of facing Kevin and Cliff caused her cheeks to flush and her heart to race. How could she ever talk to them again? “What’s your plans for the business now that Dad’s gone? Would you ever consider selling it?” “No. I plan on running it just as I always have. We worked far too hard for me to let it go so easily. Plus, I don’t think I’d get much for it if I sold it. This town is small…Who’d buy it?” The woman had a point. “I guess you’re right. Anyway, I’ll be sticking around for a bit.” “I’m glad, but don’t feel you have to on my account. I’m fine, really I am. It’s still hard and will be for a while, but life goes on.” Yes, yes it will.

Chapter Eleven “Oh my, how are you doing?” asked Lurlene when Eden entered the shop at the nursery the next day. “Come right on in and sit down over here.” She ushered Eden to a nearby table. “Mom’s gone to Florida and I told her I’d keep myself busy here. She said you all could use an extra pair of hands.” She looked hopeful. “Of course we can. I’d never refuse help of any kind, and this place will be yours someday.” “Maybe, if I have the interest.” “That’s true,” said Lurlene. “You have your own life and you have to choose what’s most important to you. Isn’t that always the way for each of us?” “Well, if you’re not happy and content in life, there’s not much point now is there?” “I totally agree. What are you interested in doing? You could work here in the shop or elsewhere. It’s totally your choice.” **** “There’s a delivery and you need to sign the invoice,” said Kevin, strolling into the shop. “I can’t sign it and neither can Cliff.” “Sure thing. Hand it here.” Lurlene held out her hand to him. He looked to Eden and nodded to acknowledge her. “Hi, Kevin,” she said. “How are you?” “I’d good…working. Could we talk?”

Eden stood from the table. “Outside?” They moved towards the door. “I just wanted to say that I hope we didn’t scare you off.” He kept his voice low, being mindful that anyone could be lurking. “Did we scare you off?” “I think I scared myself. Things happened quickly and I’m not sure if I was ready for all that.” “If you had said something we could have stopped. I don’t want you to be uncomfortable around me or Cliff.” “It’s not that at all. I think you’re both great, but if things were to continue, what happens if feelings develop? Is that even possible when three people are involved?” “Whoa.” Kevin placed both hands in the air. “I like you a lot and so does Cliff. I definitely have a deep attraction for you. I’d like to take things one step at a time. Things have a way of working themselves out if it’s meant to be and what’s life if you never take chances?” She looked up at him. “I know, you’re right. I worry too damned much for my own good.” “It’s understandable. You’ve had some major upheaval in your life recently and you have every right to be wary. I assure you, we’d never hurt you, Eden. That’s the last thing we’d ever want to do.” “I know. It was very interesting being with you both.” He smirked. “Then you enjoyed it?” “Yes.” She moved closer to him. “I liked it…a lot. I’ve never done anything like that and it was enlightening.” “You need to let loose more.” He looked around to make sure they were alone. He then reached down and cupped her crotch and grinned as she closed her eyes and let a little moan escape her lips. “That’s it. It feels good. Tell me you like me feeling your pussy.” “I like it.” “You like what?” He sucked in a breath and felt his cock harden inside his jeans.

“I like you feeling my pussy.” She squirmed against his hand. He released her and grabbed her hand. “Follow me.” **** “We have a visitor,” said Kevin. Eden stepped out from behind him in the small greenhouse at the rear of the property. “Hi, Cliff,” she said. “It’s nice to see you again.” She blushed, thinking about the things he’d done to her. “Likewise.” Cliff shucked his work gloves. Kevin slid one arm around her waist, and his free hand moved to her breast. He squeezed gently. “We’re going to fuck you,” he whispered in her ear. “Both of us at the same time, again.” She felt sparks of lust fly through her as he tweaked her nipple. “Yes, but what if someone walks in here?” “This area isn’t open to the public, and Lurlene never ventures out this way. We’re safe. There’s no need to worry.” Now flanked between both men, Eden looked from Kevin and then to Cliff as she felt two sets of hands roaming over her stillclothed form. She trembled as Kevin kissed her while his fingers unbuttoned her blouse as Cliff’s hand pulled down the zipper on her jeans. She felt Cliff’s hand move to her panty-clad pussy, and when he slipped a finger between her legs, her moans were stifled by Kevin’s tongue playing inside her mouth with her own. “Cliff, eat her cunt. Get her nice and wet for us just like the last time,” said Kevin, breaking their kiss. He pulled a nearby chair closer, and after he pulled down his jeans to reveal his magnificent hard cock, he sat down and pointed at his crotch. “Ride my cock while Cliff sucks on your clit.” Eden stepped out of her jeans and panties and waited as Kevin applied a condom. She then reached back between them, guiding his

throbbing cock to her pussy. She grunted as he slipped inside her slick lips. “Oh my,” she said. “That’s so darned good.” She bit down on her bottom lip and leaned back into him. “Fuck me. Fuck my hot cunt.” She looked down to see Cliff on his knees before her, his head moving in close between her legs as he spread her for him, exposing her completely as Kevin’s cock fucked her nice and deep. With Cliff’s tongue gliding over her clit and Kevin fucking her, she was in total, unabashed ecstasy. She held on to the back of Cliff’s head. “Eat my pussy. Suck my clit,” she ordered, feeling empowered and shedding her inhibitions. It wasn’t long before she felt her first orgasm rip through her, and she clutched the arms of the chair as she felt it wash over her. “Fuck her now,” said Kevin to Cliff. “I want to feel you inside her with me.” With anxious eyes, Eden watched as Cliff pulled down his jeans and applied a condom like Kevin had. This wasn’t going to be easy. She reached down between her legs and hoped she’d be able to take both of them again at once! It had been a stretch before. **** Cliff pressed into Eden’s hotness, and the combination of being inside her and feeling his cock throb next to Kevin’s was enough to weaken him in the knees. She massaged his chest and beckoned him to come closer to her with one finger, and when his lips hovered above hers, the look in her eyes put him at ease and he smiled just before they kissed, his heart pounding hard deep inside his chest. Her hands connected behind his back, and she then slowly ran them down to his buttocks, squeezing each cheek.

He pushed deeper into her and felt her clenching around both him and Kevin. The three of them were locked together in a lustful embrace. He ran his hands up Eden’s sides and settled on her breasts, massaging them, her nipples hard underneath his fingertips, and hell, she smelled so damned sexy, like vanilla and just a hint of spice all rolled into one with a little bit of coconut mixed in for good measure. His chest heaved in and out, and a fine sweat formed on his brow as he pushed into her again and again with a desperate need for release, and when he felt his balls pull up, he knew this was it. He was coming. **** Kevin felt Cliff’s cock explode, and that along with the masterful manipulations of Eden’s hot, tight cunt, pushed him over the edge. “Sweet!” he muttered as he pushed up his hips until he was balls-deep inside her. On the next thrust he came, letting loose with his orgasm, panting as he allowed it to take over. Eden writhed against them both. Kevin watched as she fingered her clit. She cried out, and tossing her head back, she let a loud moan escape her lips. “Fuck, two cocks…I love it,” she proclaimed, her voice breathy and hoarse. **** She was going to be sore after this one. Eden grinned wickedly at the thought. She buttoned her blouse and watched the two men dress. This time she didn’t feel strange about their encounter. “It looks like I’m going to be working with you guys,” she said, fixing her hair. “Is that right?” asked Kevin, raising one brow. He looked amused. “You’re not going back to the city?”

“I’m staying here for now. I’ll need to think it through first before I make a final decision. For now, my place is here. Mom needs me and I need to be there for her.” It was a simple enough explanation without getting deep into her feelings about them. “Plus, there seems to be perks in staying around.” She winked. “Of course!” said Kevin. Both men grabbed her at the same time and pulled her to them. “We like having you around,” said Cliff. “As you can tell.” He grinned and blushed. “Ditto on that,” added Kevin. “I’m glad you’re staying and I could think of worse people to work with.” “Ass,” she replied, hitting him in the arm. “I’m the boss’s daughter and you’d better mind your place!” “Is that a threat?” She nodded. “I come through on my threats and the punishments can be rather interesting.” “Do tell,” begged Kevin. “I like how you think.” “I’ll let you find out on your own.” She pushed her way through them. “Now, what needs to be done?”

Epilogue Eden’s life was proof that change could come within an instant. Reconnecting with Kevin and meeting Cliff has been a positive thing, and now she had decisions to make that would forever affect her future as she was at a crossroads in her life and had to do what was best for her. Her life in the city had been an unhappy one filled with disappointment and downright boredom, and for the first time in years she felt she had a purpose as she worked in the nursery side by side with Kevin and Cliff. She didn’t know how things were going to work out with the three of them, but her visits to their trailer had become more frequent, and the idea of love had popped up in her mind more than once as she made love to both of them and they made love to her. She was needed, and she was wanted by them both. It felt good, and how could anyone find any fault with that? **** Before Eden and Cliff had come into his life, Kevin had lived without thinking about how lonely he truly was. Perhaps it was denial that led him through his days along with the occasional out-of-town hookup when he took a vacation to get away from the rigors of everyday life. Life had a funny way of tossing things around when least expected. Cliff was a wonderful man, caring and deep in ways that most men he’d encountered weren’t, and Eden filled another need

within him that craved the soft touch of a woman along with her smart and sassy personality, which he always found refreshing. Was it love? Maybe. It was something he was more than willing to explore. **** His lack of connecting with anyone had always disheartened Cliff and made him feel like an outsider in life. It was fate that brought him into the lives of Kevin and Eden. That’s how he looked at it and the only way he could explain their meeting. He was content. He’d found a place to call his home along with a job he liked. Most importantly, he now had friends who were so much more in his life. Could it be love? Could it have finally found him at last? He didn’t know. No one could predict the future, but he was willing to go with whatever life tossed at him. That was the way of the world, and he loved life now more than ever before. **** Two weeks had passed since her first encounters with Kevin and Cliff. Eden had yet to return to the city and she did not think she would do so anytime soon. “I’m enjoying my time here,” she explained to Joy over the phone. “Mom’s coming home in two weeks and I think I will have to make a decision by then. My leave from work won’t last forever.” She listened as Joy explained that she understood and that Eden had to do what was in her own best interest. “I’ll call you next week,” she said, ending the conversation. “Stay safe,” ended Eden. Eden went to the kitchen and looked in the oven to check on the lasagne she’d made for supper. She hoped she’d made enough for the three of them, and garlic bread. She couldn’t forget the garlic bread. When a knock fell on the front door, she smiled and pulled the apron from around her waist. She tossed it on the countertop and

stopped briefly to fuss with her hair in the hall mirror. She looked damned good if only a little flustered. She wasn’t the best chef in the world, and entertaining was still new to her. She opened the door and ushered the two men inside as each kissed her cheek as they passed. For a moment she pictured them taking her on the dining room table like in some cheeky porn movie. She tingled at the thought. “I brought wine,” said Kevin. “Cliff picked it out.” He handed her the bottle. “It’s Italian.” “How lovely. You can both make yourselves comfortable in the living room. Dinner’s almost ready. I just have to do a few things before I’m ready to serve it.” “Can either of us do anything to help?” asked Cliff. “I’m a good hand in the kitchen.” “And the bedroom,” added Kevin, with a smirk. “But we all know that.” “Indeed,” said Eden. “I’m fine. I want to do this on my own.” “Sure thing. Cliff, let’s make ourselves comfy just like she says.” Eden returned to the kitchen, and as she turned off the oven, she had a very naughty thought. Could she? Should she? After she’d removed her clothes, Eden once again tied the apron around her waist. Already, she was wet with desire for the two men who had come for her, and now she was prepared to make them come in other ways. When she entered the living room, she smiled as she watched their eyes come alive with excitement. “Wow,” said Kevin. “You’re quite the dish. Can I eat you?” Cliff sat back and grabbed his crotch as she watched him watch her. “Dinner’s going to be late, so I thought I’d serve dessert first. If you want it, you have to come get it.” They did!
