Prologue Why did I move to the Southwest? Lola MacKee berated herself for the umpteenth time. Her job at the mail sorting company wasn’t air-conditioned, regardless of the fact that it was December 22, and Crawley, Arizona, remained hot and dry. She was dead on her feet and wanted nothing more than the power to teleport herself into bed, from the car. Parking her decrepit Metro in front of the apartment building, she grabbed her bag from the passenger seat, pulled herself out of the car and slowly made her way to the building’s entrance. Move your ass, Lola. The sooner you get inside, the sooner you can eat, hit the sack, and enjoy some cool air. Lola lifted her hand to the door pull. Her long sigh created a strange harmony with the squeaky entrance as she went inside. Without bothering to check her mail slot, Lola headed straight for the stairs and began her four-flight walk up to her apartment. After staggering the last few steps to her door, Lola put her key in the lock and let herself inside, relieved by the cool air that caressed her face. A bright orange envelope on the floor caught her eye. She left it while she moved to put her things down and get something to drink. The glittering lights on her sad looking Christmas tree drew Lola’s gaze and she smiled. Despite a past that should have destroyed any Christmas spirit she had, Lola loved this time of year. She still believed in the basic goodness of man and the power of the season to fill everyone with the spirit of giving. Lola’s parents had raised her and her brother, Derek, in the old way, following the ancient religion passed down through their Scots’ ancestry. After her parents’ death, however, she and her brother had gone into a succession of foster homes where

Christian ideology was the norm. As a result, they’d celebrated Christmas with everyone else like normal children, while keeping Yule a secret between them. Lola was sure the Great Mother would forgive her this one small thing. After all, it wasn’t the name of the holiday that mattered, but what one rejoiced over and gave to others. Once they were grown, Derek had stopped ‘doing’ Christmas, but Lola had kept her new tradition. He’d often teased her about being greedy, wanting gifts for both. Thinking of her brother was bittersweet. Derek had been a joyous heart, filled with laughter, love, and endless compassion. Nevertheless, he’d also had a wild streak and the need to make a difference. Losing him was hard, but Lola cherished her memories and knew they’d be together again someday. She also knew Derek wouldn’t want her to waste away, mourning his loss, especially not at Yule. He’d want her to volunteer her time as she always did. He’d want her to remember him in the smiles of the children she read to at the homeless shelter and in the welcoming embrace of the poor to whom she gave blankets and warm clothes. Don’t worry about me, Lo. I’ll be fine. You just take care of yourself and those who rely on your goodness. I know, Der. I still feel lonely without you, though. I’ve tried to keep my chin up, just like we used to after Mom and Dad died. Lola squeezed her eyes shut to stop the tears threatening to fall. She walked into the kitchen, and reaching into her tiny refrigerator, took out a bottle of tap water. Unscrewing the top, she took a long drink, letting the cold water wash away her melancholy. It wouldn’t do any good to wallow in pity when so many were in worse situations than she was. Lola wandered back to the front door and picked up the envelope from the floor. Nothing marked it save for the warning color, but Lola felt dread settle in the pit of her stomach. She opened the flap and pulled out the sheet of paper from inside. Dear Tenant, We regret to inform you that we have sold this building to a land development company. Due to its purchase and the needs of the new owners, this building must be evacuated immediately.

This letter is your 30-day notice to vacate these premises. If you have not vacated the premises in 30 days’ time, we will forcibly evict you and your belongings. We apologize for any inconvenience and wish you all a Happy Holiday Season. Management Lola felt the blood drain from her face as her knees gave out beneath her. The paper crumpled in her fist as righteous anger flooded her system. “How dare they?” Melancholy morphed into rage and it spewed forth from deep inside Lola. The letter was a catalyst, blowing open the well of fury Lola had tried to bury and keep contained. For the first time in her life, her faith evaded her. Whether from her crappy day at work, or the culmination of all her buried anger over the past, Lola didn’t know. What she did know was that her well of hope was empty and she wanted to hit someone because of it. She lurched to her feet, hands curled into fists and heart pounding. “Goddamn it, what the hell is wrong with these people?” She screamed her outrage into the small apartment. It echoed back at her from empty corners. Lola’s fearsome ire increased, as images of the families in her building flashed in her mind. Her neighbors were people who lived on the barest of incomes, people with few options. She had no idea what they’d do. A blink of color drew her eyes once again to her Christmas tree. A choking sound escaped her throat. Lola tried to stop them, but the sobs began anyway. They came from deep in her gut, howls of rage and futility at the inhumanity of greed and of men. Her tear-filled eyes settled on the letter and “Happy Holiday” were the only words visible from within the wadded page, as though they were sneering at her. What cruelty compelled someone to wish goodwill in a letter so hateful and lacking in basic compassion? It was too much and with an anguished wail, Lola ran to her bedroom and threw herself on the bed, without family, soon to be without a home and finally, without hope.
Chapter 1 Tamen, Lord of the Frost, looked into the Seeing Pool at Lola’s weeping form and wished for the millionth time that he could go to her. Her tears, flowing freely from her emerald eyes, provided him a window by which to watch her. He would have preferred a rain puddle or the bath as his watery doorway into her world. As he slammed his fist against the marble side of the pool, Tamen closed his eyes to block Lola’s image. He’d been watching the girl for years, fascinated by her spirit, her joy, and her unflagging faith. He could see her behind his closed lids, her golden hair long and loose, her green eyes sparkling, her smile open and free. No matter how awful life was Lola always had a smile ready. A grin formed on his lips as memories replayed. His people had been fading, losing magic and life for a millennium. After his mother’s death, Tamen had come to this sacred place in the hope of seeing her again in the pool’s enchanted waters. He’d stared into the serene blue surface for what seemed like days, but his mother did not appear. Sadness and despair had hung heavy around him as he’d turned to leave. His back to the pool, shoulders stooped and head bowed, he’d been startled when a joyous giggle echoed in the chamber. Tamen had rushed to the pool, thinking his mother was at peace. Instead, Tamen found himself looking upon an urchin, dirt on her face and clothes, beaming and laughing delightedly in a field of flowers. Butterflies had danced about her, as drawn to her infectious happiness as he had been. That child’s laughter had drawn him out of sorrow. It was the first time he’d seen Lola and she’d captivated him. In that moment, Tamen’s grief had lifted. As the years passed, he had watched the urchin grow into a beautiful woman. A woman who maintained her childlike innocence and faith despite the many hardships and heartaches fate had dealt her.

When her brother had died, Tamen had fought hard against his need to go to her and offer comfort. Tamen knew Derek spent most of his adult life traveling the globe, going into dangerous countries to bring aid and supplies to those who needed them most. Sick children and their families trapped in the middle of civil wars, military coups, and even natural disasters. It was during Derek’s last trip that his chopper went down. All on board had died. How Lola kept her faith was beyond Tamen. He had no idea how she did it, but after all these years he had begun to believe that Lola’s faith was the key to saving the Sidhe. Thousands of human years ago, the Sidhe had been a part of the mortal realm. They’d lived side by side with man, sharing of each other’s lives and faith. But as the course of things flow, the majority of mankind eventually turned away from both the Sidhe and the old gods. In the end, his people retreated to Tir na nÓg. They fell back to the last of the Blessed places on mortal earth, in the hopes that they might live on without the support and camaraderie of humans. But it seemed the Great Mother had abandoned them as well. So, the Sidhe had turned back to mankind, sustaining themselves on the power of mythology and the few remaining humans who followed the old ways. As a result, the Sidhe’s faith had twisted and changed, causing his people to forget their past and their gods, making them dependent on the fickle tastes of man. Eventually, many Sidhe believed that without human followers and worship there was no hope for survival of his species. They had relied on the energy of man for too long. As time passed, fewer and fewer humans paid homage to the Sidhe. Long before Tamen’s birth, his people had begun to fade away and die. The lack of a human faith, and believers in their existence, drained both the Sidhe magic and their will. By the time Tamen was born, few Sidhe could even remember the old times or the Great Mother and lesser gods. They had begun to believe human mythology about them, instead of their own real history. So Tamen had grown into manhood believing in nothing save for himself. He refused to allow man or gods to take away his power or his life. His will to live and

triumph served him well, for of all the Sidhe remaining he was the strongest. His light had dimmed the least. However, with each passing year, Tamen felt himself grow weaker. He knew he must find a way to stop the bleeding of energy if the Sidhe had any hope of surviving, but until Lola, he’d had no idea how. Her faith had sparked an idea in his mind. If Lola could continue to believe in the basic goodness of people and the Great Mother, no matter how often the world tried to prove her wrong, then perhaps her faith could save the Sidhe as well. If Tamen could find a way to harness the powerful gift Lola possessed, he was certain it would save his people and his world. He’d taken his idea to King Lugh, but the king had told him the belief of one human wasn’t enough to recreate an entire world and people. Lugh was wise and humble, a great teacher and leader, and Tamen knew the king had believed what he said. So, Tamen had kept his idea to himself from then on, quietly thinking and planning, unwilling to give up as easily as it seemed the other Sidhe did. A painful shriek brought Tamen back to the present. He opened his eyes and watched as Lola vented the rage inside against her pillow. Her tears were drying and her image blurred. She swiped a delicate hand across her cheeks, wiping the liquid away. “I can’t do it anymore!” A strange look crossed her face, as if she were trying to recall something. “No wonder Mrs. Nolton didn’t wave to me when I came in! What is she going to do?” More tears trekked down her pale cheeks, before she buried her head in the pillow once again. Tamen couldn’t see her, but he could still hear her. “I have nothing more to give, damn it! I quit!” Tamen gasped in agony. He staggered from the pool as though struck by a blow. He could feel the tearing of Lola’s heart, of her precious faith, and as her beautiful face faded to nothing in the pool, Tamen shook with fear. If Lola gave up now, how could he possibly convince her to help him save the Sidhe? He couldn’t allow this to happen. Tamen knew what he had to do as he left the Seeing Pool. Whether the king liked it or not, it was time for Tamen to act on his plan.
Chapter 2 Lola stormed from the bedroom and into the bathroom, slamming the door behind her. With hard, angry jerks, she divested herself of clothing and bent to start the bath. Jerkily twisting the knobs, she ran the water as hot as she could stand and waited for the tub to fill. She swung around and rested her palms against the top of the vanity. Her heart pounded a frantic rhythm in her chest and her breath heaved in and out. “I really can’t take anymore. No Creator would ever heap this much misery on a body and expect them to still believe.” She refused to give in to tears again, so she squeezed her eyes closed and swallowed hard to dislodge the lump in her throat. Dark thoughts roiled and spun through her head, as the insults and slights from her past filled her ears and heart. You’re a stupid girl. Christmas is for fools. Only losers believe in Santa at twelve years of age. You’d better get a reality check, Lola, people are assholes who could care less about you or anyone else. How can you smile? Do you see how we live? Thanks for the blanket, bitch, a lot of good it’ll do me. Why do you waste your time with those kids? They’re all dying anyway. Lola shoved the hateful thoughts away and turned back to the tub. She shut off the tap and climbed in, a hiss escaping her as the heat of the water encased her body. Lola drew her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. Her anger faded and numbness settled over her. She hadn’t doubted herself or her faith in all her life and the tear in her spirit hurt more than the actions of a heartless world. Lola, you can’t give up. Think of how much happiness you’ve given, how much love you have yet to give. Derek’s voice was so clear in her mind, Lola could have sworn he was in the bathroom with her. But I’m so tired, Derek. Tired from working my fingers to the bone just to stay afloat, tired of my help being scorned, tired of seeing things only get worse instead of better. Twenty-eight years of fighting against despair is a long time.

She imagined her brother’s husky laughter and had to smile. Do you think the Great Mother gave you such faith so that you could throw it away? Come on, Lo, chin up! Besides, there’s a reason for all things, as you’re about to find out. Memories of Derek comforted her and for a moment his love filled her again. Lola relaxed her legs and stretched out in the tub. The quiet of the room and the soothing warmth of the water lulled her and in moments, Lola fell into sleep.
*** “My king.” Tamen knelt before Lugh and awaited acknowledgment. “Tamen, it’s good to see you, my friend.” The king of the Sidhe sat back in his throne and smiled. Lugh was sure Tamen had a pressing reason for barging into his private chambers and he patiently waited for Tamen to continue. Tamen rose from the floor and looked directly into Lugh’s ice blue eyes. “I have to leave Tir na nÓg for a time. I know you find it hard to believe that my human could save us, but I’m sure she’s the key. However, today in the Seeing Pool, I watched as her faith fractured. I must go to her! I can’t let this happen and it’s past time for me to follow my plan.” Tamen’s dark brown eyes filled with emotion, and Lugh struggled not to sigh. The determined glint in the young Sidhe’s eyes, as well as the rigid stance of his body, told Lugh that arguing wouldn’t sway Tamen. Tamen’s words played again in the king’s mind. Lugh felt a smile play across his lips, for he doubted Tamen realized he’d called the girl his human. Perhaps there was more going on here than met the eye. If so, Lugh couldn’t, in good conscience, deny Tamen a chance at happiness. So few of his people had found that in such a long time. “You know how I feel about this idea, Tamen. Hold on,” Lugh held up his hand to stop Tamen’s tirade, “I will allow you this opportunity. Go to the girl. You have my blessings and I wish you success. However, I can only give you three days in the mortal realm. After that, I cannot risk our safety or deplete our energy more.”

“I understand, my king. Thank you.” Tamen nodded to Lugh, pivoted on his heel and left the room. He had a world to save and only three short, human days in which to do it.
Chapter 3 Lola startled into wakefulness. Water sloshed over the side of the tub as her arms flailed. Her sleep-fogged mind was slow to get started but her pulse and her eyes darted nonetheless. Taking in the moonlit room, awareness seeped in and Lola shivered hard. She’d been in the tub for a long time, the water now cold and uncomfortable. Lola rose from the tub, water cascading off her skin that quickly pebbled with gooseflesh. She stepped onto the bath mat and reached into the cupboard next to the toilet for a towel. Drying herself with short, rough strokes warmed her skin and Lola felt better. She wrapped the towel around her, tucking in one end to hold it in place, and moved to leave the bathroom. A smell, familiar yet strange, tickled her nose. Frowning, trying to identify the elusive scent, Lola inhaled deeply. Her eyes widened in surprise and she rushed to her bedroom window, throwing open the curtains to look outside. “I could have sworn I smelled snow,” Lola whispered to herself. No wintry sparkle shone on the land or in the air and Lola’s temporary excitement died. Lola loved snow almost as much as she loved Christmas. The white blanket always seemed to cover things with a layer of hope and perfection. She sighed heavily and let the curtain fall back into place, chiding her overactive imagination and her silly hopes. “I can give you snow if you like,” a dark voice whispered from the shadows. Lola’s sharp gasp strangled the scream trying to escape her throat. She clutched the towel close to her body, both fists bound tightly in the cloth. “Don’t be afraid, Lola. I mean you no harm.” “H-H-How do you know my name?” Lola’s voice shook and her body trembled. She tried to force away the terror, the logical part of her mind telling her to pull it together. Lola’s problem was the calm side of her wasn’t the side in charge.

“I have known your name since you were a child. Let me reveal myself to you. We have much to accomplish.” Lola felt herself nod, though how she managed it she’d never know. His form took shape one line at a time, turning what was shadow into solid images. He was tall, his arms and legs long. The breadth of his shoulders was impressive, but somehow Lola knew he was lithe and graceful, not bulky, in musculature. The moonlight caught strands of his hair, surprising Lola again. It was very long, falling straight and heavy, to his waist. Unblemished by gray or yellow, it was a magnificent, shimmering curtain of purity, as perfect a hue as her beloved snow. Tamen watched her eyes widen at the sight of him and felt an unwelcome surge of lust at Lola’s reaction. Her eyes tracked each step and when his hair came into view, her green gaze caught it, fixating on it in fascination. He moved his arm up to push the long strands over his shoulder and heard her gasp. “Your ears! They’re pointed! Oh my god, are you blue?” Her interest turned to fear again as she turned her face away from the manifestation of madness. Tall blue men with white hair and pointed ears only existed in old science fiction TV reruns. They didn’t exist in real life. Lola knew she’d lost her mind, her grief and rage making her hallucinate strange beings and snow scents. “Lola, you haven’t lost your mind. Yes, my skin is a pale blue, my ears are pointed, and my hair is white. My name is Tamen and if you give me a chance I can prove you aren’t crazy.” Lola kept her face turned away, shaking her head in denial. “Look at me.” Tamen placed his right hand beneath her chin to turn her head back toward him. The moment their skin met, electricity coursed up his arm and her head jerked to him of its own volition. He dropped his hand as if burned, and he watched Lola raise her own fingers to her skin as if she’d felt the spark as well. When his skin touched hers, fire shot through Lola, settling low in her body. This man, Tamen, had barely caressed her. Yet she’d felt his touch deeply inside her, as if he had stroked her soul instead of her skin. She knew the feeling in her belly was desire,

what she couldn’t fathom was how she could want a hallucination more than she’d ever wanted a real man. Her eyes opened and focused on Tamen. This close she could see his eyes were large and heavily lashed, the irises the color of wet bark. The dark, welcoming brown of earth, with flecks of gold and green. They stood out in his face, such a human color in the midst of an alien background. His skin was indeed a pale blue, lighter than any shade she knew, almost white. His face was angular, with sharp cheekbones, the slim blade of a nose, and a pointed chin defining its shape. His delicately pointed ears lured her, and Lola fought the sudden urge to trace the swirls of flesh. Lush lips were the only soft thing on the blatant masculine landscape. Lola stared at his mouth for longer than was proper. It was a little broad with a full, lower lip and a firm upper one. When the edges quirked up, she realized he knew she’d been fascinated. A rosy flush suffused her neck and face and Lola looked away, trying to conceal her embarrassment. “Ah, ah, Lola. You really must look at me if we’re to converse.” Tamen’s voice was husky and low, stroking along her skin and warming her heart. “Look, you’re a figment of my overwrought imagination and nothing more. Please, go away.” Lola pressed her eyes closed and silently prayed the alien man would disappear. “What if I could prove I was real? Could we move this encounter along?” Tamen took in her wet hair and slick skin. He found himself nearly as amused by Lola as he was attracted to her. Lust pulsed through his body fueled by her nearness, her scent, and her near naked state. He curled his hands into fists to stop himself from dragging her the last few inches separating them. In the soft light of the moon, Tamen relished the honey glint of her hair and the smooth cream of her skin. Her eyes, when she’d looked at him, had seemed nearly black. He knew she wanted him, though she tried to tell herself he didn’t exist. Her sultry essence rolled off her skin in waves he couldn’t ignore. It wouldn’t take much, a gentle stroke of flesh or press of lips. Then, her body would heat and ready itself for his

invasion. An image of dusky curls glistening with her desire flashed in his mind before Tamen could stop the flow of his thoughts. “How?” Lola’s voice came out in a cross between a whisper and a squeak. She refused to believe Tamen was real but logic said he was. She’d felt his skin, looked into his eyes. No figment of her imagination could quicken her pulse with soft touches and a sexy voice. Besides, if he were a conjuring of her fantasies, he wouldn’t have blue skin and pointed ears. “Like this,” he said. The smell of snow assailed her nostrils and Lola’s eyes flew open. Fat, perfect flakes floated all around the room, falling from an unseen cloud to settle upon her skin, the bed, the floor. A heavy crystal clung to the lashes of her right eye. Lola turned her face up to the ceiling, as joy, pure and undiluted, filled her soul and heart. She giggled and stuck her tongue out to catch the flakes, slipping her tongue back into her mouth and savoring the cold, crisp flavor. Throwing her arms into the air, she began to spin in wild circles. Wet hair flying out, feet dancing, while jubilant, full-bellied laughter spilled from her body. “Tamen, it’s wonderful! Thank you!” Tamen watched her twirling form, unable to prevent an unfettered smile from spreading across his face. This small thing, a gift of snow, made Lola as happy as he’d seen her on that day so many years ago. Rumbling, masculine laughter startled Lola from her celebration, and she lurched in mid-twist. Her toes caught in the old, shaggy carpet on the floor, her body pitching forward. Strong arms caught her, pulling her close to Tamen’s broad, firm chest. During her frenzied spinning, the knot of Lola’s towel had loosened. Now, pressed to Tamen’s virile form, Lola realized the only thing keeping her front hidden was the closeness of their bodies. Strong embarrassment stained her skin a dark pink when she felt light, cold tickles against her bare ass. Thank goodness there isn’t a mirror behind me. Lola looked up into Tamen’s face. She knew her eyes were wide with surprise and mortification. Tamen was amused. A wide grin showed his white teeth and stretched up to his eyes, crinkling their corners and lighting a twinkle in the lovely

brown orbs. She couldn’t help but return the smile, and her blush eased. After all, her klutziness was a never-ending source of amusement. Lola slid her palms along his triceps, from elbow to armpit, using her grip to help regain a proper footing. The shifting of her body against his, even behind the towel, tickled her nipples with desire. They hardened, drawing to painful tips, and the smile fled from Tamen’s face. Lola was a fascinating mix of woman and child. Her precious faith, her simple joy could easily lead a man to imagine her naive and immature. But her strong grip, steady gaze, and the ripe shape of her body made it clear she was a grown woman. She held tight to his upper arms, sliding her lush breasts against him while she tried to get her legs untangled. Tamen’s breath stilled in his lungs as he felt her nipples stiffen and draw tight. All thoughts of laughter fled his mind. His body reacted immediately, cock lengthening, growing heavy and thick. Tamen’s nostrils flared as his gaze bored into Lola’s. She understood the change in him and fear flickered in her deep green eyes. Her scent changed, grew thick and lusty, and Tamen drew it deep into his lungs. He watched as desire overtook the fear in her eyes, and a primal place inside him rejoiced as a wanton flush colored her flesh. He leaned closer, his eyes focused on her parted lips, intent on discovering the unique flavor of Lola. His mouth brushed hers softly, giving her time to turn away. But Lola was beyond turning away; she wanted his kiss, needed it. The soft passes teased her and a small whimper echoed in the room. Tamen growled, the sound low, and Lola shivered in response. Nipples tingling, her pussy growing unimaginably wet, Lola pushed up on her toes and smashed her mouth against his. Tamen released her arms, pulling her flush against him as he burrowed his hands into the damp strands of her hair. His fists tightened as he covered her lips, licking and sucking at the flesh. He thrust his tongue past the plump barriers, sweeping inside to wrestle with hers. Savoring her flavor, both innocent and decadent, mapping the hot, wet landscape and committing it to memory. His desire turned harsh as one hand slid from her hair and across the smooth, bare skin of her back. He gripped her

ass, the globes firm and heavy. He kneaded the flesh deeply, swallowing her long moan of need as if it were water and he was dying of thirst. Lola released his arms, throwing hers around his neck. Her fingers sifted through the long strands, curling deeply into the bounty at the base of his head. His hand on her buttock, filled with her warm flesh, pushed Lola to a place of desire she’d never known. She shifted her stance, unconsciously spreading her legs and moving her body fully against him. The sharp jab of his cock took her breath, making her knees weak and her heart pound. She gasped at the sensations, overwhelming and jumbled, and pulled her mouth free from his. Loud, ragged breaths filled the room. Lola tried to focus, but when Tamen’s other hand cupped her ass, the only thing she could do was moan and grind and wish for him to stop the tumult raging inside. The bounty of her ass filled his hands and then some. Tamen lifted Lola against him, rubbing his cock along her hot slit and into the supple flesh of her belly. When he’d come here, the idea that this human woman might stir his desire hadn’t even crossed his mind. But now, having tasted her kiss and savored her lush form, Tamen couldn’t think of anything other than gorging himself on her liquid desire and plunging his aching cock into the hot mouth of her cunt. Taking one hand from her bottom, he jerked the towel from between them and flung it away. That done, he lifted her off the floor, positioning his cock directly between her thighs, and stalked the few steps to her bed. He had to have something of her now, the rest of his mission could wait.
Chapter 4 Lola’s head spun, the swiftness of Tamen’s movements making her dizzy. He dropped her to the bed and pulled off his shirt in the blink of an eye. The bed was slightly damp from the miraculous snow he’d given her. The coolness of snowy residue took Lola’s breath away, but as her desire rose the heat of her body warmed the sheets. She struggled to lift her heavy lids, taking in the smooth expanse of skin. His broad, hairless chest, strong shoulders, and white nipples fascinated her. She didn’t get much time to look at him. He went to his knees at the end of the bed, taking her ankles in his hands and spreading her legs wide. She whimpered, unsure what to do or even if she wanted to do anything at all. “Don’t worry, Lola. I won’t do anything you won’t enjoy. But I must taste you! I must swallow your desire, feel your flesh enveloping mine, hear your cries of satisfaction!” Tamen’s words whipped her lust into a frenzy and Lola thrashed her head against the pillow beneath it. “We have much to discuss this night.” His lips tantalized the skin of her calf as he made his way to the apex of her thighs. “We will, once the thought of having you stops blinding me to all else.” He kissed and nipped each bit of flesh, laving the stinging bites with a hot swipe of his tongue as he edged his way closer to the spot that so demanded his attention. When his hot breath stirred her intimate hair, Lola jerked. Strong hands slid over her thighs and grabbed her hips, stilling her movement and holding her in place. “Wait.” The breathless plea whispered from her parched throat. “Too late.” It was all the warning she got before Tamen lowered his mouth to her flesh. His fingers spread open along her thighs, while his shoulders widened her legs further. She felt the press of fingertips against her secret lips, opening her to his gaze.

“Mmmmm,” Tamen’s lips vibrated against her hot center. Her scent was overwhelming, and he placed his face close and breathed deeply. Her hips bucked and she moaned loudly. “Oh yes!” Lola felt desire flow from her pussy, wet rivulets of need slipping from her body, no doubt evident against her flesh. The sharp stab of a tongue against her opening sent her high keen of need echoing into the room. Tamen teased her, barely caressing the swollen flesh beneath him. He wanted to draw it out so he could hear her uninhibited pleas, but the savage rush of desire pulsing through his veins made his cock throb with every heartbeat. Primal instinct ruled Tamen. He fell upon her cunt, his tongue sliding between lush lips, sinking deep into her weeping opening, laving from top to bottom and swirling across her clit. “You taste like hot skin and hotter woman.” Tamen’s words were guttural, uttered through a thick blanket of need. He burrowed his face deeper into her pussy, his nose flicking her clit while his tongue did things to her pussy Lola thought impossible. Her moans grew louder, exploding from her with every breath. She had to have more. She needed him inside her. Lifting her hips to his face, she tried to tell him what she wanted without words. “Tell me.” His hard tone demanded she comply. “FILL ME!” Lola screamed the words, beyond caring about anything but the release Tamen would give her. He did as instructed; the hard thrust of two fingers deep inside her made her scream again. “YES! Oh, Tamen, more!” Her legs spread to the limit, her hips rising to meet each glide of his fingers, Lola felt the tightening of her body from her toes to her scalp. His hand pounded a primal rhythm between her legs, the wet slap of hot pussy and hard man playing the melody of desire. His mouth covered her clit once again, this time no teasing forays, but hard sucking insistence. Tamen twisted his fingers inside her, touching something untouched before and Lola’s lungs froze. “Come, Lola! I want to taste your release! Cover me with it!” Tamen groaned loudly. Two more hard thrusts, two more twists of his wrist, then Lola’s body

convulsed in spasms of release so forceful her legs drew up, as her body tried to curl into a ball. I need more! Tamen thought as he withdrew his fingers from her quivering flesh. He roughly shoved her thighs apart and lunged for her pussy with his mouth. Each contraction of her body released more fluid, and he greedily lapped it up, coating his face with her satisfaction. When the last shivers of her completion stilled, he made one last foray along her pussy and lifted away from her. He looked down at her, saw as relaxation eased her body. Her eyes were closed, but fluttering, as if she were trying to open them but didn’t have the strength. Her nipples were still pebbled, her breathing still ragged. Opening her eyes, Lola saw the evidence of her wantonness glistening on Tamen’s face and she couldn’t hold back the sobs any longer. The force of her orgasm had shaken her to the bone. She’d said things, done things she’d never said or done before. All inhibition had fled the moment his lips had pressed between her legs, but more than that was different. Lola knew she’d never be this way with anyone but Tamen and the confusion of pure jubilation mixed with fear at what was happening simply overwhelmed her. “Why are you crying?” Tamen’s whispered words gave Lola something to focus on besides her emotions. “I’m not sad, Tamen. Sometimes human women cry after intense love making, that’s all.” She wiped away her tears with a shaky hand. Laughter bubbled up from deep inside her and in the space of a heartbeat she went from crying to laughing joyfully. She watched as Tamen’s brow smoothed and a grin tweaked the corners of his mouth. “You confuse me, Lola.” His words danced on soft laughter. You aren’t the only one confused, Tamen. Lola laughed harder at her thought and rolled to her side. She needed a drink of water and some food. Fulfillment temporarily replaced worry and despair, but her curiosity was waking. Lola wanted to find out what had brought this man into her life.
Chapter 5 Tamen watched as Lola sat up on the bed. His cock ached as unsatisfied need leaked from its tip. The front of his pants was damp, evidence of how excited her responses made him. Her dewy gaze swung to him, widening as she took in the rock hard cock straining to be free from its confines. She blinked once, twice, and the renewed smell of desire rolled off her. He gritted his teeth to stop from pinning her to the rundown mattress and ramming his cock so deep inside her she choked. His thoughts brought vivid images to mind, and Tamen emitted a long, slow moan. “Umm, Tamen?” Lola looked at him in wonder. His need was evident, but his curled fingers and corded throat inflamed her senses. Why hadn’t he finished? The fact that he’d seen to her needs and not his own warmed more than Lola’s flesh. “Do you need me to…?” “No.” His eyes opened as the response rumbled from his chest. “I will be fine. Let’s go have some refreshment and I will tell you why I’m here.” Lola gave him a curious look, but nodded and moved to grab her robe from the closet. “NO!” His yell startled her. “What?” Lola turned to face him, hands on hips, irritation plain on her face. “Please, don’t cover yourself. I…” He hesitated. “I’m barely in control. Seeing you covered will serve no purpose but to stir in me the desire to strip your body and take what I want so badly.” He gave a rough laugh and stroked his hand along the length of his still rigid cock, drawing her eyes to the darker, damp spot on his pants. After a few more moments of her watching in fascination as he teased himself, she sighed and looked away. “All right. I suppose you’ve seen it all anyway.” She strode past him, her honey colored locks swaying in time with her hips. Tamen gripped

his cock tightly, savoring the harsh sensation, then released his rock hard prick and followed her out of the bedroom. He’d have her soon, he promised himself.
*** After fixing them both sandwiches and getting them water, Lola went to the tiny dinette and sat down. Tamen followed, settling across from her, and they dug into their food. The meal went quietly; only the sounds of swallowing and an occasional comment on the taste disturbed the calm peace between them. “So,” Lola swiped crumbs from her mouth and took the last swig of water from her glass, “who are you, where are you from, and what do you want?” She was unusually blunt, but something about Tamen brought out the more aggressive parts of her personality. “My name is Tamen, Lord of the Frost. I’m Sidhe. I live in Tir na nÓg and I’m here because I believe you can save my people.” She raised her eyebrows at him, impressed he didn’t feel the need to beat around the bush either. “Sidhe? From Tir na nÓg? The people of Danu?” Tamen watched the glint of curiosity spark in her eyes, but noticed disbelief didn’t accompany it. “Yes. What do you know of my people?” “Well, we worship the same goddess. That much I know for sure. Most of what I know, I have to admit, comes from folklore and fairy tales. You’re a myth.” Lola sat back as anger hardened his features, unsure if it was directed at her or not. The motion caused her naked breasts to bounce, drawing his eyes and soothing his ire. Her nipples pebbled and her pussy grew damp. “Focus, Tamen,” Lola snapped at him and his eyes left her breasts and connected with her green gaze. “Yes, well, there is no Great Mother. If she ever existed, she abandoned us long before my birth, some three centuries ago. And thanks to reliance on man’s faith in her absence, we are fading away and dying. We’ve been dying for a millennium, but it grows worse now when man’s fascination with technology and money surpasses his need for the guidance of gods.” An indelicate snort came from Lola, startling Tamen.

“You’re preaching to the choir, babe. I know all about man’s greed and his disinterest in the plight of those who share the earth. What I don’t understand is why this affects the Sidhe? You existed before man, didn’t you?” “I don’t know. I like to think we did, but the way we’re losing magic, combined with the dying, leads me to wonder if maybe my people were the manifestation of man’s faith and not the creation of a goddess.” Tamen shook his head. He didn’t want to think about this, all he wanted was for Lola to come with him, to believe in his people, to give her endless faith to them. He was certain if she did, life would flow back into the Sidhe. Then they would have the power to seek out others like her and regain both their magic and their place in the world. She sensed his distress and decided to let her line of questioning go. Her head swirled with the realization that Tamen, a Sidhe, did not believe in the Great Mother. Of the two of them, he ought to have believed, not her. Not an American woman bombarded by Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and multiple other beliefs every day. But here they sat, a Sidhe with no faith and the human who had enough for both of them. The imagined words of her brother floated back to the front of her mind, and suddenly she understood what was happening. A small smile flitted across her face. Thanks, Derek. I love you. “Okay, so what do you want from me?” Lola settled her gaze on his bare chest, unable to ignore the strange white nipples standing out from his pale, blue skin. They tightened beneath her gaze, and she looked away. “Besides that.” She laughed softly and met his chocolate eyes. He grinned lasciviously, and ducked his head. “I want you to come with me. I want you to come to Tir na nÓg and share your unflagging faith with us. If you, a human with a profound gift for faith in the Great Mother and in man, might bring us into your well of power, I believe you can save us.” “Hmm, you really think I alone can save your people?” “Yes.” His vehement response shivered across her skin. An idea formed in Lola’s mind. She felt the warmth of the Great Mother envelop her and she knew what she had to do.

“What if I told you I’d lost my faith? That recent events have opened my eyes to the fact that man is worthless and no goddess exists?” She allowed her earlier anger to color her words, making sure he bought her story. “No, that can’t be! I’ve seen you overcome worse than this, your faith strong and your beliefs reinforced!” Tamen’s hands clutched hers in the middle of the table. His grip turned painful, but Lola suppressed the urge to pull away. Tamen’s mind raced, thoughts of failure pushing to the forefront. There must be a way to prove to her all isn’t lost! The blinking lights of the Christmas tree snared him. Of course! It will work, it must! Tamen released her hands and stood abruptly. “What if I could prove to you that all isn’t hopeless? What if I could show you the goodness and compassion of man, the presence of the Great Mother?” “How do you propose to do that? You don’t believe in either.” She crossed her arms over her chest and pursed her lips. “I don’t believe hoping these things exist will save the Sidhe. What I do believe is that faith in the Sidhe, by those pure of spirit, may stop the fading. True faith is the key to winning this war, and isn’t that what Christmas is all about? Giving of yourself, without wondering what you’ll get in return? That’s all I ask. Please, Lola, give me the chance to change your mind!” Tamen’s ragged breath and flurried gestures moved Lola to near tears. So much passion, so much faith, and he didn’t even know it. She nodded her head slowly, looking away to hide the suspicious shine in her eyes. “All right. I’ll give you ’til Christmas Eve to prove your point.” “That’s all I ask.” His broad shoulders drooped as he released a long sigh. “Get dressed. We have somewhere to go.”
Chapter 6 Lola went to her bedroom to dress and Tamen paced the small kitchen restlessly waiting for her to return. Where should they go? What should he show her first? Tamen shoved his hand into his long hair, pulling the white strands in frustration. He thought about option after option and discarded them, when he remembered the tree. Yes, I’ll start with her children. Course decided, Tamen smoothed his hair and moved to the straggly evergreen sitting atop a small end table. Its multicolored lights twinkled merrily and the few ornaments decorating it were handmade, each piece reflecting the careful detail and love with which they’d been created. One in particular caught his eye. It was the human interpretation of a fairy, with delicate butterfly wings and silvery dust sparkling on the surface. He smiled at the creature, feeling much better about how things would go. The squeak of shoes on linoleum drew his attention from the tree and toward the sound. Lola had dressed in a dark green long-sleeved T-shirt, black jeans and black boots. Her attire made her seem smaller and more delicate, and the hang of cotton over her bountiful breasts stirred his cock. “Do I need to take a jacket or something? I have no idea how we’re getting to, or doing, what you have planned.” Lola moved to the small door just inside the one to her apartment. “No, you won’t need anything like that. Where we go, no one will see us or hear us, and the weather won’t affect us. It will be like you are in a suit of protection that will hide you from the rest of the world, though not from me. You and I will be able to see and speak to each other no matter what.” “Will we be like ghosts then?”

“Of a sort. We’ll be able to pass through animate things, but not inanimate. The magic I use will blend with living things, allowing us to move through people undetected. Things that don’t live have no energy of their own, so the magic can’t transport us through walls or things like that.” He walked up behind her and placed his hands on her shoulders. The soft caress of her hair and the warmth emanating from her skin soothed and stirred him, but he focused on the job at hand. “Close your eyes. It’ll be easier that way, this first time. Are you ready?” He squeezed her flesh in reassurance. “Yes.” Lola closed her eyes and relaxed into Tamen. His broad chest supported her weight, the press of his body stirring Lola’s desire. Tamen’s arms came around her in a tight embrace and strange, lyrical words floated from his mouth to circle them. Bright, vibrant colors danced behind her lids, swirling in a dizzying miasma of sensation. The aroma of snow filled her head and her breath caught in her throat as her feet left the floor. Though she didn’t feel the cold, the wintry essence eased her anxiety a bit. She brought her own hands up to clutch his forearms, holding tightly and trying to stay calm within Tamen’s protective grasp. A feeling, not unlike the descent from the top of a roller coaster, tugged at her stomach and Lola swore she could hear the beating of wings. Right as Lola was sure she couldn’t take any more stomach dropping, swooping, or falling, firm ground was once again beneath her feet. She groaned with relief and tried to still her roiling stomach. “Are you all right?” Tamen’s husky voice stopped the heaving of her gut, instead mixing other more potent emotions inside her. His mouth was close to her ear, his hot breath teasing the sensitive flesh and causing goose bumps to sprout along her arms. She eased her way out of his arms and turned to face him. “I’m fine. That was some ride!” She gave him a bright smile and a cheerful laugh. Intense emotion shadowed his face. Lola wanted nothing more than to be the recipient of those feelings, but now wasn’t the time. Lola didn’t bother denying that she and

Tamen would have carnal knowledge of each other soon. It was inevitable. For now, though, they each had a point to prove. Lola slowly spun back around, taking in the scenery around them. She knew this place, and was pleased Tamen had chosen it to start their journey. She couldn’t have picked a better spot to begin herself. “We’re at the children’s hospital.” “Yes, we are.” Tamen moved to stand beside Lola, taking her hand in his as they began to walk to the front doors. Her small, soft palm slid across his larger, calloused one. They shivered, then laughed as they looked at each other. Tamen felt the knot in his chest loosen and a little peace moved through him. Looking at her, Tamen marveled at how close he felt to this little human, how easy being with her was. Natural in a way he’d never known. Lola’s caring heart allowed her to accept him at face value, something unheard of among the Sidhe. She wasn’t interested in how much magic he commanded or from whom he descended. Though she questioned his ability to change her mind, she had willingly allowed him to try. He sensed Lola was making a place for herself deep within his heart. He wasn’t sure whether he wanted to stop her from doing so, or give in and leave his heart in her safekeeping. Pushing away those unsettling thoughts, Tamen opened the door for her and let her go in first. Through the lobby and into an elevator they went, completely unnoticed by those around them. Tamen made a motion with his hand and the light for her floor lit up. When the doors slid open to let them out, Lola found out how a ghost must feel. Her invisible form passed through the older man standing in front of her. The sensation wasn’t pleasant, but it was over quickly. Shaking off residual nausea from moving through another person, Lola had to concentrate on not smiling as she took in the many faces around the children’s ICU. She saw little David’s parents in the sitting area to the right of the nurse’s desk. David came to the hospital a little more than three weeks ago. He had been burned over sixty percent of his body in a car accident. Todd Langley’s sister was with them, smiling

and happy as always. Todd was undergoing chemotherapy, and with the love and support of his close-knit family, Lola knew he’d make it through and be better than ever. Crawley was the only children’s trauma hospital within two hundred miles. Though it was small, the hospital was one of the best in the country. All children with severe medical problems stayed in the ICU, whatever condition or need. Children treated by oncology shared the floor with little ones in comas or sick with other diseases. Lola had heard the doctors and nurses talking about how other hospitals separated the children. Here at Crawley the doctors believed exposure to other children with different problems helped young people to focus less on their own predicaments. Instead, they learned not to lose compassion or hope. Lola looked at Tamen, a question in her eyes. Tamen motioned for her to show him the way, to take him where she wanted to go. Her face was flushed and her eyes glistened. Tamen watched her swallow hard and make her way through the sitting area and down a clean, bright hallway. They stopped in front of heavy wooden door, number 813. It was identical to all the rest lining the hall. “Go ahead and open the door. There’s no one here to see it open unassisted.” Lola nodded to Tamen and let go of his hand. She took a deep breath and opened the door to the room. He followed her inside and hung back. On the bed lay a tiny girl. Flaxen hair shone on her pillow, a glorious halo for the delicate babe. Her face was thin and dark eyelashes cast shadows across her pallid face. Tamen knew this was Lily, a little girl abandoned by her family to die. She’d been in the hospital since infancy, lying in a coma for almost two years. Tamen felt the surge of love Lola had for this child, who was not her blood, and couldn’t stop himself from saying the words to give Lola’s form visibility. Lola stood beside Lily’s bed and raised her hand to the little girl’s brow. When warm skin touched warm skin, Lola gasped and her gaze shot to Tamen. He smiled at her and she grinned back.

“Hey Lily-girl? It’s Lola. How are you today, sweetie?” So many times, Lola had wished the hospital could find this tiny child’s family. All of her earlier anger at the injustice of man raced back through Lola and she dropped her hand from Lily’s face. She wished she could take Lily home and love her like she needed, but it wasn’t possible. Lily was in a semi-reactive coma, which meant she could breathe on her own and she responded to pain, but she never opened her eyes and she couldn’t eat on her own. A small port had been installed into her stomach through which she received food. If and when Lily went home, a nurse would have to be paid to come check on her and attend to her medical needs. No matter how much the doctors and staff would’ve liked it to be so, Lola wasn’t financially able to give Lily proper medical care. Lola swiped angrily at the tears coursing down her cheeks, as she stalked toward Tamen. “Look at her, Tamen. Innocent of everything and still her mother, her father, tossed her away like garbage. If this is what human compassion looks like, I have no need for it and Lily doesn’t either!” Tamen wanted to take away Lola’s pain and hold her close, but he kept his arms at his sides. “What might happen for Lily to make you forget the bad parts of her life and see all the good?” He watched as confusion clouded Lola’s face. A spark lit her eyes and she raised her chin defiantly. “For someone to love her like I do. For her family to come take her away from here, into their arms and hearts. I want her eyes to open. I want to hear her speak.” Lola looked away in embarrassment, the vehemence of her words reflecting the power of her love. “I know the last isn’t really something compassion or goodness can achieve, it’s a selfish wish of mine,” Lola said quietly. “Then it’s a good thing we stopped here first, Lola. I’m privy to certain information most humans aren’t and I can see a future for this child that’s bright and filled with hope.” Tamen’s face became alert and he quickly said the words to make Lola invisible again. “Come here, Lola, and watch.” Lola walked to his side, arms crossed over her chest. Tamen leaned down to her ear.

“You know she’s always been able to hear you, Lola. Your sweet voice has brightened her life and filled it with love and laughter, though you can’t hear her respond to you. She knows you’ve been here with her and it’s made her feel safe.” Lola started to turn to him, to ask him how he knew that, when the door to the room opened. A middle-aged woman, well dressed and round, came into the room. She smelled of cinnamon and vanilla, and looked to Lola like a thinner version of Mrs. Claus. Dr. Shanly entered behind her. He placed his palm on the small of her back and gently prodded her to Lily’s bedside. The older woman placed a hand over her mouth to cover her gasp and moisture welled in her eyes. “Mrs. Micheals, I want to assure you that the hospital and the authorities have done everything in their power to locate Lily’s family. I apologize for the amount of time it took, but Lily came to us without information.” Mrs. Micheals stroked Lily’s head before taking one tiny hand in her own. “I understand, Doctor. My daughter had problems my husband and I couldn’t help her to overcome. I would never have thought she could abandon her own child, but I suppose I should have. I thank God every day that he took her home to him. I know she’s safe now and loved.” Mrs. Micheals looked away from Lily and directly into Dr. Shanly’s eyes. “Will Lily be like this forever?” Her words caught but she finished the question anyway. “We don’t know. Lily was dangerously hypothermic when we got her two years ago. She’s a fighter and she doesn’t need any help to breathe or digest food. She’s in a somewhat responsive coma. She responds to stimulation, but she doesn’t open her eyes or talk. This could be due to any number of factors, including her abandonment and of course the hypothermia she suffered. Honestly, the length of time the coma may last is unknown. Generally, they only last two to four weeks and the longer they last the less likely we are to have a full recovery. At this point, the chances of Lily coming out of this and being whole, both in mind and body, are slim. I’m sorry.” Dr. Shanly laid his hand on Mrs. Micheals’ arm and squeezed reassuringly.

“Well, that doesn’t matter. I’m taking her home with me. Her grandfather and I are more than able to take care of her and give her the love she needs. When can I take her home?” “The paperwork should be done tomorrow. I do have a request, though.” “Yes?” “One of our volunteers has been especially close to Lily. It would devastate Lola if Lily were gone before she could say goodbye.” Mrs. Micheals nodded. “She’s loved her, hasn’t she, like a mother would?” “Yes she has. If Lola had been able, you would have found Lily in her home and not here.” Dr. Shanly smiled. Mrs. Micheals wiped away tears and pulled a chair up to Lily’s bed. She looked at Dr. Shanly, who nodded in answer to her unspoken question. Mrs. Micheals lifted the baby into her arms, careful of the feeding port, taking the bright blue afghan Lola made for Lily with her. She settled into the chair, holding the girl close, and began to rock slowly and sing a soft lullaby. “I’ll give you some time alone with her.” The doctor nodded to Mrs. Micheals and quietly turned to leave. Lola couldn’t take any more. She ran from the room, slipping through the door as Dr. Shanly left, flying down the corridor. She took the stairs, since the door was open to them, her feet barely touching the risers in her haste. Thankfully, the door to the lobby from the stairs opened to admit a nurse. Lola didn’t have to stop and wait to be let into the reception area of the hospital. She sped across the lobby, running through a middle aged couple, literally, as they came in the front doors. She stumbled to a stop once she was free of the building, sinking to her knees and trying to hold back the tears of anguish and joy trying to burst free. Anger rose, slowly engulfing her grief. Lola was angry with herself mostly, but also at a world that could forget a child. Shame flooded her system, shame at having a pity party for herself instead of rejoicing Lily’s good fortune. Shame that for a moment, Lola had wished

Tamen might give her the child, give her the means to keep her, instead of Lily’s grandmother finally finding her and wanting to take her home. “Lola? What’s wrong?” Tamen’s voice was hesitant as he spoke from behind her. Her shame, pity, and anger roared free of restraint and Lola whirled on him. “What’s wrong with me? What the hell do you think is wrong with me? That woman, that stranger just shows up and now Lily’s leaving! I love her, I love her more than I ever thought possible. And you know what? Lily’s been here for TWO YEARS! Two years and no one came looking for her. What kind of mother doesn’t know where their child is? What kind of mother doesn’t know that her child is going to have a child?” She yelled at Tamen while tears streaked down her face. “Lola…” Tamen raised his hands as if to comfort her. “NO! How can the Great Mother tear out my heart this way and stomp it to pieces? Where is some compassion for me?” Lola flew at him then, needing to strike out at something, needing to make someone else hurt like she hurt. Tamen threw his hands up to protect his face while Lily landed blow after blow. He let her vent, let her release her frustration upon him. When her fists slowed, Tamen wrapped her in his arms, ignoring her struggles, until she went limp and let go of her tears. He smoothed his hand over her head, rubbing its palm soothingly across her hair and circling the other on her back until all noise stopped. Lola wiped a weary arm across her eyes, and shoved against Tamen. He dropped his arms and turned away from her, quelling his own emotional response to Lola. His heart ached for her, and he wondered for a moment if he could continue this trip. Seeing her distress, feeling her pain, made Tamen lose his focus. He was too close to her, and he feared he would throw the hope of saving his people to the wind just to see Lola smiling and happy. He couldn’t afford this affection he felt. His people couldn’t afford it. Heaving a deep sigh, Tamen resolved to distance himself from Lola, no matter what it cost him personally. He must succeed and nothing could get in the way. “Let’s go back in. Santa will be coming soon, and I want to say goodbye to Lily.” Tamen understood her request and he made her solid again.

They went back into the hospital and back to the ICU ward. Head held high and smiling brightly, Lola greeted the nurses and families. She screwed up her courage and made her way back to Lily’s room. Dr. Shanly stood outside the door, filling out Lily’s chart. He looked up as Lola approached. “Lola! I’m so glad you came. I have wonderful news!” The doctor put the chart into its holder and beamed at Lola. “I know, Doc, I heard. Is it okay if I go in?” Dr. Shanly was a wise man, so he didn’t mention Lola’s red-rimmed eyes or stuffy nose. His smile grew warmer and he nodded his head. Lola pushed the door open, quietly sliding inside. Tamen slipped in behind her, watching from the shadows. “Mrs. Micheals? I’m Lola. I’ve been visiting with Lily for a long time.” “Lola. Yes, the doctor mentioned you. My dear, I am so glad to meet you!” Emotion clogged the woman’s throat as she looked up at Lola, who stood at the foot of the bed. “I don’t know how to thank you for giving of yourself to a child who couldn’t give back. May God bless you.” Lola smiled and held back her tears. “It was my pleasure, Mrs. Micheals. I can’t tell you how happy I am that you’ve come for Lily. Don’t you worry about giving back. Lily gives back plenty. Just wait until you see her smile.” Lola moved to stroke the baby’s hand. She and Mrs. Micheals stayed in peaceful silence for a few moments, until the faint sound of “HO! HO! HO!” trickled into the room. “Oh! Santa’s here! Shall we take Lily out into the other room and see what he’s brought for her?” Lola motioned to the door and Mrs. Micheals smiled gamely. Rising from the chair, Mrs. Micheals held Lily out to Lola. “Here, you take her, Lola. I want you to know, you can come visit her anytime at all. I don’t want to take her from you for good. You opened your heart to her, so you’re family as far as I’m concerned.” Mrs. Micheals carefully laid Lily in her arms and Lola gave them both a warm, watery smile. Tamen followed the women out of the room and down the hall back to the sitting area. The staff had spread all the children who could come out of their rooms over

every surface. There was so much joy and expectation lighting their precious faces that Tamen had to look away from their glow. Santa Claus, who Tamen recognized as Dr. Shanly, stood before the rapt faces and reached into a large red sack. He called out a child’s name, and a young woman of about twelve went to him and received her gift. It was a small rag doll, nothing special by itself. Nevertheless, the girl hugged it close and looked at it as though it were the most wondrous thing she’d seen. So it went, the handing out of gifts to each child. No one complained or turned their nose up at the presents. Instead hope, love, and faith filled the room with good will. Tamen leaned into Lola, his lips caressing her ear. “You see, Lola. These children have faith. They don’t care that they may be dying or suffering. They will cherish these gifts for their lives, just as they cherish all good things. If they can keep faith despite their situations, how can you deny yours?” Lola cast a sidelong glance at Tamen, about to say something snide, when they called Lily’s name. Mrs. Micheals approached Santa and accepted her granddaughter’s gift. She returned to Lola’s side and presented the gift to Lily. “Oh, Lily,” Mrs. Micheals said, “it’s a fairy. It’s so beautiful! She has long golden hair like you, and the most wonderful purple and pink wings!” Lola stared at the gift, certain it wasn’t coincidental that Lily had received it. It was indeed a beautiful doll, shimmering and soft to the touch. Lola took it from Mrs. Micheals and rubbed it along the comatose baby’s cheek. “You should open your eyes and look at her, Lily. She’s fantastic!” Lola gazed at the baby for a moment, then tucked the doll into the crook of Lily’s lax arm. Other children came to show Lola their presents. She cooed over each of their gifts and had a bright smile and gentle touch for each of the children. She didn’t hear Mrs. Micheals’ gasp, but the pressure of Tamen’s arm on her elbow drew her attention. “Look, Lola.” Tamen motioned to Lily. Lola turned her head to the child and met the largest, most gorgeous pair of dark blue eyes she’d ever seen. Lola blinked at her, into her serene gaze, then clutched Lily tight in shock.

“Lily! You’re awake!” Lola’s gaze collided with Mrs. Micheals’, before the women threw their arms around each other and Lily, squealing with unadulterated delight. Lily squirmed, then began to cry, and Lola, a little begrudgingly, gave her back to her grandmother. “It’s a miracle! Oh, Lola!” The older woman cried openly, as did Lola, and they embraced again. Lily had awakened. Lola knew she’d be fine now, loved by her grandparents and cherished. It was a miracle. Lola sent a short prayer of thanks to the Great Mother, then stepped away from the woman and child. Schooling her features, she turned to Tamen and lifted a brow. He shook his head and held out his hands, signifying he had nothing to do with the child’s recovery. She continued to look at this man the Great Mother had sent to her, and Lola felt the tear in her heart begin to mend. Oh, shit. He’s already gotten to me. I’m falling and all he wants from me is faith. Lola nodded her head, acknowledging his response and her own thoughts, then turned to say goodbye to the celebratory crowd gathered about Mrs. Micheals. After they were far enough from the hospital to be unseen, Tamen once again made them both invisible. Lola thought about what had happened inside and wondered what effect it had made on the Sidhe man at her side. Did he feel even a niggling of faith or would he still demand that what had happened was not of faith but of time? Lola hoped seeing the children had moved Tamen, at least a little. She only had one way to find out. Lola stopped Tamen with a hand on his arm. He turned to her, and Lola took a deep breath. She was about to lie through her teeth, but she knew the Great Mother would forgive her.
Chapter 7 “Tamen, did you do that in there? Did you use some magic to revive Lily? I’m grateful if you did, but messing with my mind isn’t going to change it.” Lola crossed her arms over her chest and relaxed her stance. Feet shoulder width apart, arms firmly in place, she faced him and waited for him to answer. “No, Lola. I did nothing. Couldn’t it have been the Great Mother?” The fact that Tamen didn’t believe in any god, yet continued to use the Great Mother as a reason to make her accept what he wanted, tweaked Lola. “You can’t argue for a god you don’t believe in, so stop doing it.” Lola spat the words at him. “All right then. How about this? Those children in there, the sick and the dying, they have faith. Right?” “What do you mean?” Lola was being purposefully obtuse and Tamen released an irritated sigh. “I mean did you look at their faces? They beamed with happiness, with jubilation! They didn’t care about their illnesses. The simple act of Santa coming, with modest presents in tow, filled them with hope and light! They glowed with it, so brightly I had to turn away!” “Yes, they did.” Lola dropped her head and appeared to consider his words. Tamen rushed on, not wanting to lose any ground he’d gained. “Don’t you see? They don’t feel sorry for themselves, and they don’t begrudge their gifts. They were thankful to be alive to get them. They’re thankful for every day, and they share their faith and hope with everyone. All their worries disappeared and they joined in with abandon. Isn’t that enough to show you your faith is well placed?

Isn’t it enough to prove to you, if those children refuse to give up and give in, then your doing so is selfish?” “I’m sorry, Tamen, but the faith and hope of children doesn’t prove to me adults can do the same. They’re innocent and accepting of what fate has thrown at them. They fight for life and to get well, but they do so with pure hearts. Adults rarely do the same. They take their self-pity and anger out on those around them.” Tamen whirled around, his hair swirling, showing Lola his back. The scent of snow swamped her senses, and tiny flakes appeared and danced around his body. He ran angry hands through his long white hair and a low growl came from his throat. “What do you want of me?” Tamen yelled the words at Lola and the world at large. He had been certain the children’s unwavering faith in the face of adversity would move Lola to realize her situation wasn’t so dire, nor her faith so weak. Instead, she spouted off about adults and children, and pointed out his ignorance of faith so boldly. He stalked away from her, toward a small fountain nearby. He assumed it was a serene place for families to come and relax but he intended to use it for another purpose. Lola watched him walk away, in a cloud of snow, satisfied Tamen had felt something in the hospital. Her heart had pounded in her chest. Saying what she’d said, lying to him, had been more difficult than she’d imagined. Tamen was so determined, so focused, and he was blind to what was right in front of him. She sighed as a little more of her heart became his. He walked past the benches nearby and sat on the edge of the marble water feature. In the center cherubs danced, water flowing from their mouths to trickle into the basin. He looked into the water. Closing his eyes, he chanting, until he felt the warm tingle of magic flow out from him and into the pool. Opening his eyes again, he saw the image he’d called. A man stood on his front porch, a letter clutched in one hand, the other gripping the balustrade with white knuckles. In moments the man’s story filled Tamen’s mind. If Lola needed to see the compassion and generosity of adults, he’d show her just that. If

this man’s story didn’t move her, nothing could, and Tamen would return to Tir na nÓg defeated and lost to wait out his days until he faded into nothing.
*** Lola felt the energizing flow of magic from Tamen and watched as the water in the fountain shivered with power. Not wanting to disturb him, but curious about what he was doing, Lola walked quietly to Tamen’s side. As she neared, Tamen stiffened and waved a hand over the water, the magic dissipating. “What were you doing, Tamen?” Lola’s voice was soft and gentle, soothing Tamen’s anger. “Nothing, really. Just looking for guidance, that’s all.” “Look. I’m sorry you’re so irritated with me. I have to be honest with you. You’ll have to do better next time. Now, if you don’t mind, this has been a difficult and emotional night and I’d like to go home to bed. I’m drained and I need to rest.” Lola raised her hand toward Tamen. She hesitated, her palm hovering above the crown of his head, until the desire to touch him overwhelmed her. She laid her palm against his silken strands, lust and something deeper and warmer blooming in her body. Tamen sighed and relaxed his body against hers. His shoulder touched her thigh, his head rested against her belly. Lola stroked his head, running her fingers through the silky soft, snow white tresses. They stayed that way for many minutes, her caressing him and Tamen resting quietly. Then she felt the touch of a hand against her calf and her hand stilled. Slowly, deftly, Tamen drew his fingers up the line of her leg, teasing the underside of her buttock until Lola had to shift to ease the growing pressure between her legs. He turned his face into her stomach, dragging in a deep breath of air. Lola cupped his head as Tamen’s other hand joined the first and together slid up her body to cup her ass. His long fingers kneaded the flesh, squeezing and parting her cheeks through her slacks. The motion sent quivers of desire to Lola’s pussy, drenching her with cream and releasing a moan from her throat.

Tamen stood abruptly, jerking her body hard against his. He thrust one hand into her hair, while the other hand kept a firm grip on her lower body. Tugging gently on her scalp with the strands wrapped in his fist, he angled her head back. She looked into his eyes, her emerald ones dark and heavy with desire. Tamen leaned toward her, brushing a teasing kiss across her eyes, nose, and cheeks. Feather light caresses intended to inflame. Lola squirmed, pressing her pelvis to his and winding her arms around his waist. Tamen groaned at the pressure along his aching cock, thrusting slowly against her pliant form, teasing himself and building his need for Lola to an unbearable level. His soft mouth trailed down her neck then back up to taste the small lobe of her ear. Lola whimpered, grinding herself against him and digging her nails through his shirt and into his skin. Tamen knew what she wanted of him, but the thought of hearing her beg for it made his cock fill with blood, gaining in length and thickness. “Tell me, beg me, Lola.” She whimpered again and tried to twist from his embrace. He held her firmly and squeezed her plump ass. Pulling the flesh up and outward, making the lips of her pussy part, even under her clothes. He could smell her heat. The heavy scent of aroused woman teased his senses into a frenzy. “Beg me!” He nipped her neck, then her ear, and Lola keened. “Please, Tamen! Kiss me! Now!” His mouth crashed down on hers, his tongue parting her lips to thrust savagely inside. This kiss was not sweet. It was a claiming kiss, showing her to whom she belonged. Lola couldn’t do anything but submit to Tamen. His mouth was hot, voracious, rabid, his tongue a nubile thing, sweeping along her teeth and tongue, leaving behind the taste of man and magic. Lola knew she’d never taste a kiss so potent again. She knew Tamen’s flavor would be burned into her soul. No one else would ever satisfy her the way she knew Tamen would. He tore his mouth from hers, both of them breathing hard. She looked into his earthy gaze and understood why he stopped. He was waiting for her to ask him to her bed. She sighed in resignation and anticipation.

“Come home with me, Tamen. Come to my bed and make me yours.” Tamen gave her a feral smile. The stiffness of his body and the near grimace on his face blatantly told her his possession would be intense. “Done.” His voice was heavy with dark hungers. Lola closed her eyes when she smelled snow and felt the spinning sensation from before. He magicked them to her home, the distance crossed in a moment. Lola stepped away from him and turned to her bedroom. She was certain when they left the room, she’d have given him everything she possessed to give. Heart, body, and soul.
Chapter 8 Tamen watched Lola walk away from him. Her ass swayed in time with the throbbing of his cock. Each step she took beat inside him, his desire rising exponentially, until he thought he’d explode from the pressure. Tamping down his raging hormones, Tamen took a moment to relax. The last thing he wanted was to come across as some rampant, uncaring savage, though the idea had merits. He laughed quietly to himself as he made his way into her room. Anticipation lightened his steps, until he was sure he floated across the threshold. Once inside the room, his eyes searched the darkness for the reflection of moonlight off her skin. She stood in the dark space beside the room’s lone window, relaxed against the wall, her eyes taking in his body, his movement. Lola weighed him, smiled, then nodded her head and pushed away from the wall. She walked to him, stopping within arm’s reach, but careful not to touch him. “So how do we do this?” Tamen gave her an odd look. He knew she’d had sex before, though he shied away from those thoughts. “What do you mean?” “I’ve never decided to do what we are about to do. It’s always been a seduction, a slow build up, time for me to change my mind or pretend I could. But there’s no changing my mind this time. I want you. You want me. So do we start with a kiss or just hop on the bed?” Tamen threw back his head and laughed, long and heartily. Lola frowned at him and pursed her lips, cocking a hip and resting her hand upon it. “What’s so damn funny?” It hurt her that Tamen would laugh at her inexperience.

Tamen looked down at his little spitfire, eyes flashing and toe tapping. He quelled his laughter but couldn’t wipe off the open smile showing his white teeth. Instead of answering her, Tamen grabbed Lola about the waist and twirled her around in circles. “Wha… HEY!” Her feet left the floor and the room spun. Tamen laughed again and Lola giggled with him. Soon they were both laughing like loons, the sound of his husky voice mingling with her soft alto in Lola’s ears. Finally too dizzy to continue, Tamen dropped to her bed and held Lola close to his body. She smiled stupidly while her equilibrium returned, resting her head on his chest and breathing deep his unique, woodsy scent. “You make me do things, Lola.” Tamen sighed and tried to roll away from her. Take the lead, Lola. Don’t let him think about things too deeply. Lola felt, more than heard, the thoughts fill her body. She followed the advice without a second thought, grabbing Tamen’s arm and wrapping her hand in his wonderful hair. Tamen looked back at Lola, savoring the feel of her tiny hand clutching his hair. He watched her raise up to her knees, waited as she came closer to brush her lips against his. She pulled back a little, searching his gaze, looking for approval. A gentle smile lifted the corners of his lips and she moved in on him again. Instead of her mouth on his, she shocked him with an unexpected kiss. She fluttered her long, golden lashes across his lips. The sensation tormented him, so light and delicate, teasing at more. His tongue flicked across his lips, trying to ease the tingling her butterfly strokes stirred along the flesh. Lola wasn’t deterred. She simply moved her caresses to his cheekbones, the blade of his nose, his forehead. Tamen growled deep, overwhelmed by the sensations her simple touches evoked in him. He tunneled his hands into her hair, cupping the back of her head. Lola’s gasp spurred his desire to a new level, and he took her mouth with more force than he’d intended. Mine! She’s mine! The archaic thoughts flashed like neon in his mind, as he ravished her supple lips, relishing in her submission. Her tiny fist tightened in his hair,

pulling and stinging his scalp, and he gladly accepted her manhandling. She was claiming him as well. After tearing his mouth from hers, Tamen slid his lips down her throat, stopping to suckle her pulse points and nibbling on the sensitive flesh of her ears. His hands left her head, traveling down her arms and onto her belly. She sucked in a breath as his hands glided over her shirt and up to cup her breasts. Her nipples drew taut, pebbling inside the cups of her bra. As his hands gently tested the flesh, a soft moan escaped her. The points of her breasts throbbed, but Tamen didn’t touch them. He circled the globes, drawing close but not caressing the erect flesh. Lola wiggled on the bed, knowing what she had to do but too delirious with hunger to form the words. In the haze of sensual agony, Lola took matters into her own hands, covering Tamen’s fingers and moving them to her nipples. The chafe of cloth against hot flesh jolted through her, clenching her pussy in anticipation and flushing her body with heat. The sight of Lola’s delicate hands covering his own pushed Tamen to the end of his control. Her fingers guided his to her hard nipples, showing him what she needed. He pinched the jutting flesh at the tips of her breasts, and inhaled deeply the gush of arousal that readied her body for his. Unable to wait any longer, Tamen put both hands on the collar of her shirt and tore the fabric in two. The force of his assault jerked Lola’s body from the bed, jostling her magnificent breasts and bringing a sharp cry from her mouth. Her emerald gaze clashed with his, the fire of need burning in their depths making his cock swell. The rock hard flesh twitched hard beneath the confines of his clothing. He had to be free of his clothing, immediately. Lola watched with hungry eyes as Tamen tore his own clothing from his body. His pale blue skin shimmered in the dim light of the room, fascinating her. But when his pants disappeared and she gazed upon his massive cock, Lola was hypnotized. The length wasn’t much more than maybe eight inches, but his girth made her breath catch and her eyes widen. Easily as thick as her forearm, it was a dark blue, heavily veined beast. Her mind freaked out over its size, but her body creamed and clenched in anticipation of Tamen filling her with his flesh. Memories of earlier in the day flashed

through her mind when Tamen grabbed her ankles and jerked her farther down the bed. She squeaked in feminine submission and he rumbled in masculine domination. Her wide eyes didn’t leave his cock as he reached for the button on her jeans. With a few quick jerks, Tamen had her nearly naked before him. His control all but snapped, Tamen ripped her bra and panties from her body before laying himself over her hot, white flesh. Firm lips to soft, his tongue plunged deep into her mouth. He savored her rich flavor, but the need to taste her nipples forced him to make his way to them. The rosy flesh stood at attention. Tamen trapped Lola’s gaze with his own as he lowered his lips to her aching breast. He flicked his tongue, once, twice across her flesh before baring his teeth and clamping them over her. Her body bucked, the pleasure/pain screaming through her, releasing groans of need. Her hands sifted into his hair, now covering them in delicate silk, and pressed against his head. He bit the flesh harder, adding the flick of his tongue to the mix, until she thrashed beneath him, begging him to take her. “No more, Tamen. Please, I need you!” Lola’s breathless pleas and hot, twisting form took away the last of his restraint. Tamen wanted to taste her again, but this time could only be the mating of man and woman. Primal, elemental, and Tamen knew, necessary. He couldn’t wait any longer. Roughly shoving her thighs apart, Tamen tested her curls with his right hand while he continued to pinch and twist her nipples with his left. Her juices glistened on the golden hair between her legs. He slid his fingers along the slippery flesh, finding the quivering flesh of her pussy. Unable to be gentle, Tamen thrust his fingers inside. Lola screamed, her pussy gripping his hand ferociously, her cream coating his skin. Tamen removed his fingers, gliding the wet digits along his cock, then circling his fingers around its base. He looked into Lola’s face, saw her eyes as drawn to the imminent penetration as his, and he slowly slid forward until the head of his cock touched the opening of her pussy. “Do it!” she yelled at him, knowing what he wanted and wanting it just as badly herself. He hesitated and Lola thrust her hips at him, pressing the head inside her.

She had raised herself up onto her elbows so she could watch them come together, light azure flesh into pale pink. When her thrust gave entry to the tip of his cock, Lola thought she would pass out. The pleasure was intense, the pressure beyond her experience. Her arms and legs shook with the effort of holding her body up, so she could watch. Her head fell back as Tamen groaned, and slowly eased the rest of his cock into her sopping wet cunt. Each inch stretched her more, until the throbbing of pain nearly eclipsed the pulsing pleasure. She keened and tried to pull away. Tamen’s hands encircled her waist and held her still. When his cock was all the way inside her, to his balls, he released her hips and began plucking her nipples again. Each time his fingers pinched her sensitive breasts, Lola’s sex pulsed around him, forcing her to relax and accept his size. She was so hot, so tight around him, Tamen fought not to pound into her hard and deep until he came. She moaned and tossed her head from side to side, her hips moving slightly and her thighs quivering atop his own. Her juices were copious, leaking from around him with every ripple of her body. She screamed and her body tightened around his cock, the orgasm lifting her hips and contracting her pussy. Tamen squeezed his eyes shut and recited the line of his family to hold back his own orgasm. As the last flutters of release relaxed her body, Lola tried to calm her breathing. Swallowing reflexively, working up saliva to soothe her scratchy throat, Lola peered up into Tamen’s face. She raised a weak arm and feathered her fingers through the curtain of his hair. His beautiful, human eyes met hers. Savage light glinted in them, setting her body on the road to gratification again. She groaned at the naked need shining in his face, turning her face away from him, trying to stop the spread of emotion his possession had unleashed. His body withdrew partway from hers, and she whimpered in protest. He brought her ankles up to rest on his shoulders and leaned over to capture her wrists beside her waist. He held her firmly, his strong hands binding her as surely as rope. She looked at him again, knowing he needed to see her face. Their gazes met and she

watched as his rigid control broke. With a low roar of satisfaction, he rammed his cock home. Tamen watched as the intensity of his thrust shoved the air from Lola’s body and bowed her back. He withdrew his cock completely, only to plow into her welcoming warmth with equal fervor on the next stroke. Her slick walls clutched him, and her body shook with the pounding force of his invasion. His balls slapped against her ass, the head of his cock kissing her womb with each thrust of his body. Her moans grew louder and louder, ricocheting off the walls and bouncing back to encompass them in a bubble of pleasure. Tamen released her wrists, and rose on his knees. Lifting her legs from his shoulders, he raised her hips from the bed and used his Sidhe strength to hold her there, legs spread wide by his hands, lower body elevated off the bed. He let loose the barbarian within him, slamming himself into Lola with so much force, the headboard smashed against the wall and cracked. Harder and harder he pounded into her, taking in her screams of passion and filing them away for future reflection. His arms began to shake from effort and the nearing culmination. Tamen let go of her ankles, sliding his hands to her knees. Unmercifully, he shoved her knees backwards, pressing them close to Lola’s ears. He pulled his cock out with a wet slap and looked at her, spread before him like a feast. The lips of her cunt glistening, her opening red and swollen from the hard fucking it had received. “Yes, Lola. You’re so hot, so perfect. Lola, I’m going to fill you up now. I’ll be so deep you’ll be able to taste me. When you come, don’t hold back. Give me all of it, everything. I want your screams, your cries for mercy. I’m going to take you, all of you, until you don’t know where I end and you begin.” He teased his cock against her exposed clit, rubbing his slippery head against her. He watched as her pussy clenched, groping for something he sadistically withheld. His dark words tore through Lola, lifting her maddening desire to savage need. She growled at him, her teeth bared. Lifting her hands to his sides, she dug her nails

into his skin, tearing across his flesh. He hissed in response, but continued to tease her. She drew her harsh caress down to his flanks, sinking deep into his muscular ass. “Do it then! Fill me with your cock. Brand me yours! I don’t care, just finish it!” She snarled the words and smacked his ass. Shock at her actions stunned Lola, pushing back the fog of lust. Surprise widened her eyes and she peeked at him to see his reaction. His dark gaze danced merrily, laughter mixing with want in the brown orbs. His humor at her impatience spurred her to make a point. She let loose and slapped him again, hard enough to make her palm sting. Lola’s challenge wiped the laughter from his face. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” He gave her no other warning before he rammed his cock into her body. The force of his thrust made her scream, his depth and width beyond imagining. His cock wreaked havoc on her body, slamming into her and breaking down all barriers between Tamen and herself. They became one heart pounding, rushing blood to heaving lungs and swollen sexes.
Chapter 9 Lola opened her eyes to watch his face. The tendons of his neck stood out, his jaw clenched, the spill of white hair undulated with the fervor of his strokes. His eyes squeezed tight. She cried out as he hit the spot inside her guaranteed to send pleasure exploding through her body, and his lids flashed open. Lola watched as lightning flashed in them, sparks of light and color filling his irises and obliterating the brown she loved. She knew, instinctively, that the fireworks in his eyes were magical. Tamen’s power rose within him, flowing outward from his eyes in a sparkling wave. It rushed along his skin and onto hers, sharp stings of power biting at her flesh before settling over her body and sinking beneath the surface. Her flesh took in his power greedily, every part of her on fire with Tamen’s magic. Tamen had felt the magic grow within him and he hadn’t stopped it from boiling out of him and into her. The bond they formed with his power would be unbreakable, forged from the fires of lust and love. He didn’t know when or how it had happened. Regardless, his power rose for her and revealed the truth. When her body accepted it, took his magic in, he knew she loved him as well. As the magic wove its threads, sensations from her body bombarded his brain. His rhythm never wavered, and when his cock slid along the sensitive upper wall of her pussy, both of them cried out at the crash of pleasure. Lola never let her gaze leave his, and when she began to feel things that couldn’t have been from her body, she gloried in the connection. Her pussy was so hot, so wet, grasping and caressing the ironlike spike of his cock. Sensation after sensation rolled through her as he took her and made her his. Though he was savage, rough, and unmerciful, Lola felt the well of love in her heart overflow. She knew her eyes must

shine with it, even while her nails raked furrows in his sides and her mouth cried out in wanton abandon. Her body convulsed, then bore down on him. She quivered, held in that moment before release. Another thrust would push them both over the edge, but he had to ask her one question before the power of release rendered them both mindless. “Do you want my child?” Tamen’s voice shook, emotions usually kept hidden evident in each word. “Yes. Release your seed into my body, Tamen.” The words came unbidden from somewhere deep inside Lola. She had no hesitation, no reservations. She belonged to this man and he belonged to her. Tamen’s head dropped, his relief apparent. He withdrew from her clutching body, letting flesh slide against flesh. Raising his head, he met her gaze and slowly pressed back inside. Again, the sensual rasp of body against body washed over them. He couldn’t hold out, his body near to collapse. She wrapped her legs around his waist and he held himself above her on his arms. She gripped him tightly to her, her hands sliding down his back to clutch his ass. Tamen took a deep breath and let loose with a flurry of short thrusts. In, out, in, out, faster and faster, Tamen moved deeper and deeper into her wet pussy. Her body tightened again, her calves flexing so hard they felt like rocks against his back. Her nails tore into his ass, blood filling the. Lola’s body bowed as she screamed his name. Orgasm ripped through Lola. Through the connection they’d forged, she could feel the rapid, fluttering contraction of her pussy around his cock. The pleasure was indescribable, the way his body felt deep inside her and the way she felt in Tamen’s mind bombarded her mind until only satisfaction remained. Her arms fell limply to the bed, while her pussy continued to milk his aching shaft. Tamen felt the wash of both her release and her gratification. Her clenching pussy stroked his cock endlessly, working the shaft to completion. He lunged deep, once, twice, three times before burying himself to the hilt and hailing the explosion of his seed from his body with a violent roar.

“Lola!” Four deep, hard thrusts more and Tamen emptied himself into her. His release filled her to the brim, his slowly softening cock keeping his come inside her, making certain her womb grew warm with life. His arms gave out and he collapsed atop Lola, unable to do more than roll to his side and pull her close. Both sighed, replete and content, and quickly fell asleep.
*** Lola stirred and a slow smile curved her lips. Her body ached in the best way possible. She snuggled under the blanket, not ready yet to face the sun and all the repercussions her actions the night before would reap. She raised her hand to scratch her head, brushing over a sharp piece of wood. Lola stifled a giggle, tilting her head back and looking at the remnants of her headboard. Thank goodness the bedroom butted up to the bathroom, otherwise her neighbors would have called the cops! The smile died as reality moved into her thoughts, closing her eyes again and clearing out the cobwebs that fantastic orgasms leave behind. Once she’d refocused on the past night, her mind refused to be silent. Bits of conversation, images of skin sliding into skin, and the wild spark of magic swirled behind her closed lids and in her thoughts. With a sigh, Lola eased off the bed and headed for the bathroom. She stopped at the doorway and looked over her shoulder at the still sleeping Tamen. His snowy hair fell across his body to trail on the floor. He’d flung one arm across his eyes. The other lay resting on his stomach. Lola had no doubt the Great Mother had sent him to her. Tamen needed to learn the key to saving his people was within him. If anyone could teach faith, Lola was sure she could. After all, her faith had brought her a man to love for all time. Lola gave silent thanks to the Great Mother for knowing her heart so well. With a soft laugh, Lola headed into the bathroom. She turned the taps and started the shower. Lola stepped into the tub, drawing the curtain closed behind her, and groaned as the hot water beat across her back. The heat and the pressure felt wonderful and Lola stood under the spray, relaxed and

happy, for a long while. She pondered everything that had happened the previous day while she bathed, wondering what Tamen felt about her. Lola had felt his magic, accepted his child, surely he must feel something for her. I’ve known you since you were a child. Tamen’s words from yesterday echoed in her mind. How had he known her? What did that mean? Questions whirled in her head and Lola didn’t hear the curtain slide open. A cold blast of air, instead, spun her around. Tamen stepped into the shower with her, his large body filling the space completely. “Good morning, Lady.” Tamen’s hands slid up her arms, to her neck, cupping her chin. “Good morning, Tamen.” Lola smiled softly and ran her palms up his chest to rest on his shoulders. The kiss was sweet, gentle, and perfect. All worries and questions fled her mind, as Lola sank into him. Lips clinging, tongues gliding, their fingers sifted through wet strands of hair. They wrapped themselves around each other, the embrace sensual and loving. When Tamen raised his head to look into her eyes, Lola felt the heat rise between them. Tamen moved his hands from her face and hair, down her torso, across her breasts to just below her belly button. He closed his eyes as he felt the pulse of their child’s magic from within Lola’s womb. “What was that?” Lola gasped. “Our child. He is Sidhe.” Tamen’s face broke with a wide grin and he scooped her up. His strong arms wrapped about her in a fierce hug. Lola laughed, unable to contain her response. Tamen kissed her neck, scattering soft caresses upward to her ear. His masculine laughter raced across her skin, warming her body and changing the nature of their grasps; what had been celebratory became claiming. Hands gripped, lips locked together, and tongues dueled. Tamen’s hands slid from her back to cup her ass. He rubbed his rampant cock against her wet belly. Lola needed no encouragement, as she quickly wrapped her legs about his waist. His

contentment giving way to rising need, Tamen pressed Lola against the wall and thrust his cock into her hot, welcoming body. Lola gasped at the intrusion, sore muscles complaining. But the sweet, slick essence of her desire soon eased his entry, and she clenched her muscles about him. Tamen groaned at the pleasure and Lola leaned into his neck, rubbing her face against him and taking his earlobe into her mouth. She nipped the flesh, then soothed it with a hot kiss, and Tamen rewarded her with deep, forceful strokes of his cock. “Yes! Tamen, more!” Tamen leaned back enough to take her mouth in a punishing kiss before gripping her ass more firmly and lifting her into his strokes. Her hot pussy was heaven, her excitement evident in Lola’s panting moans and the slippery juices easing his way. He relished her body, her soul, the way she gave everything to him. He’d been a fool to think he needed only one thing from this woman. He thrust his cock deep, touching the mouth of her womb, feeling her body quake as it neared orgasm. Her cries were lusty, naughty. She told him with vivid description how good he felt deep inside her, how she wanted him to stretch her, to fuck her. The link between them blew open and suddenly he could feel exactly how erotic his hard, thick cock felt pumping between her legs. Lola thought she’d die from the dual sensations bombarding her. His massive shaft stretched and filled her, each deep thrust slamming her into the wall and grinding against her clit. Simultaneously, she could feel the heat of her own body as it tightened around Tamen’s. The slick inner passage of her pussy stroked his cock, moving him into an agony of need. She needed something more! She slid her right hand from his shoulder to her own aching nipples. She pinched the flesh, twisted it hard, felt her body gush hot liquid, and keened when Tamen’s hot mouth bit down on the nipple she’d neglected. His teeth closed around the turgid flesh, his tongue flicking the point while the pressure of his jaw increased. Lola continued to pluck the other nipple, so close to coming white light flashed behind her eyes. Tamen released her breast, and pressed his cock into her fully. Holding her against the wall with one hand, he used the other to take the nipple he’d released

He pinched the flesh, flexed his hips, and began to ride her hard and fast, his massive cock pumping into her, the wet sounds of their bodies and the smell of sex surrounding them. His cock rammed into Lola, his finger teasing her nipple. “Make me come, Tamen!” Lola released her breast and gripped his shoulders with white knuckled hands. Tamen slammed into her, pulled out, slammed home again. When her orgasm began, Lola screamed his name. Tamen took the cue for what it was, savagely twisting her nipple. Her body bucked, ecstasy exploding from her clit and swollen pussy to flow out to her toes and fingertips. She moaned long and loud, and smiled sleepily when Tamen shouted his release. The scorching flood of his orgasm into her body sent Lola over the edge once more into a soft, residual climax. Shaking, Tamen slowly lowered them into the tub. Bodies entwined and still connected, they sat there until the water turned icy. Reluctantly they regained their feet and quickly rinsed themselves in the freezing water. Giggling at Tamen’s yelp when the cold water hit his satisfied cock, Lola jumped from the tub and grabbed two towels from the cupboard. Tamen shut off the water and gladly took the towel from her hands. “It really isn’t funny.” Tamen frowned. “Uh hmm.” Lola tried to stifle her giggles and failed. Tamen swatted her on the ass and Lola jumped and ran from the bathroom. He growled and gave chase, both of them falling onto the bed in a tangle of arms, legs, and laughter.
Chapter 10 They fell into a peaceful sleep. He woke first, careful not to rouse Lola as he left the bed. The clock on the nightstand read six in the evening. Though he didn’t regret what he and Lola had done, he’d lost almost an entire day. They would need to visit the man from Tamen’s vision this night, for tomorrow was Christmas Eve. Tamen dressed himself, magically mending his torn shirt, then went to the kitchen to find food. He searched the cupboards, coming across macaroni and cheese, and a can of coffee. He’d had coffee before, but he’d never had much opportunity to try human convenience food. Deciding he could use the coffee, and eager to try the macaroni and cheese, he set about making a meal. Lola awoke to loud cursing and the smell of burnt pasta. She jumped from the bed and dressed quickly, finally pulling her hair back with a tie. She slipped her shoes on and left the bedroom, striding hastily to the kitchen. “Damn it!” Tamen tossed a saucepan into the sink. “What’s going on?” He spun around at Lola’s voice. She swore a blush stained his cheeks, but he recovered quickly. “I was trying to make something to eat. I followed the directions!” Lola made her way to the sink and forced herself not to laugh at the mushy, burnt mess in the pan. “Hmm, maybe you didn’t stir it enough? It’s okay, I’ll make you some.” Lola cleaned the pan out and filled it with fresh water, while Tamen made himself a cup of coffee. She set the pot on to boil and got a cup for herself. “Tamen, since we have to wait for the water, there’s something I’d like to ask you.” “Okay.”

“Something you said yesterday has been bugging me. You said you’d known me since I was a child. How can that be? I know I don’t remember you.” Lola sat at the table and crossed one leg over the other, waiting for his answer. “I watched you in the water.” Tamen set his cup down on the counter and leaned back against it. “What do you mean?” Lola sipped the hot coffee, keeping her voice light. “In my home there’s a special place the Sidhe can go to see those who aren’t in Tir na nÓg. After my mother died, I went to the Seeing Pool, hoping I could see her face. Certain I would hear her voice and know she was all right. Instead, I saw a small child, dancing in a field of flowers, followed by a horde of butterflies. That little one was you.” Lola knew the memory he described. She’d been five. Derek and she had just buried their parents, and little Lola had needed to get away. She’d run into the field next to the cemetery and begun to cry, when what seemed like a thousand butterflies surrounded her, dancing in the air. All her sorrow had melted and she’d joined with the colorful insects in fanciful cavorting. “Each time I returned to the pool, you would appear, Lola. I watched you grow up, I watched you bloom, suffer unbelievable pain, and rejoice in celebration. I watched your faith carry you and I watched you give your heart to anyone who needed love or compassion. Yesterday, I was at the pool when you read that letter. I couldn’t stand by and do nothing anymore. Your faith is the key to saving the Sidhe. When I first shared my beliefs with my king, he didn’t agree with me. Before I’d let him tell me it wasn’t possible, and it wasn’t our place to interfere. This time, I refused to take no for an answer and he gave me his blessings to come to you.” “I understand. Thank you for explaining, Tamen.” Lola watched as his body visibly relaxed. The water was boiling rapidly, so Lola went to the stove to finish making the macaroni. They ate the simple meal. Lola laughed at the vigorous way Tamen dove into the cheap dinner. He groaned in delight and she couldn’t help finding him funny. The man

ate with abandon, savoring the dehydrated cheese sauce and chewy pasta as if it were duck a l’orange. Lola didn’t miss the irony that Tamen could give himself so easily to the experience of eating, but not to faith. “This is really good, Lola. Why are you laughing at me now?” “Sometimes, Tamen, you’re just funny. This stuff isn’t exactly gourmet fare.” She cleared their plates, rinsing them off and setting them by the sink. “One last stop, Lola. Are you ready?” “I think the better question is, are you?” She referred to the next adventure in faith, curious if he could remain unchanged again. As she placed her hand in his and stepped into his embrace, she wondered if he knew who this visit was really for. “I am,” Tamen sighed the words. For a second, Lola wondered if he was talking about the same thing she was, but then the vortex of magic, frost, and light began and all ponderings fled.
*** When the spinning stopped, Lola opened her eyes. She and Tamen were in a strange kitchen. A man and a woman were there also. He stared blankly into space and she stood at the stove, quietly crying into the pot of food she stirred. The man was young, probably in his early thirties, with sandy blond hair and work roughened hands. His hazel eyes were red rimmed, as if he’d been crying as well. The woman was a real woman. Her dark auburn hair lay in a frazzled plait down her back, her hips heavy and her body sturdy. She was the kind of woman who shouldered much responsibility without a complaint. “This is Jim Brown and his wife Sarah. Jim just found out that the bank is going to foreclose on his farm. The last few years have been hard on the Browns. Drought, insect infestations, and early frosts have put the Browns behind on the mortgage. But Jim is special, Lola. Despite his personal problems, he’s quick to lend a hand to those in need. He gives what little he can to the poor in town. If your car breaks down, Jim is there to give you a lift or fix it if he can, all without asking anything in return.

“Sarah volunteers a few hours every week in the town’s elementary school. She reads to the children and does work in the classroom. All Sarah ever wanted was to be a mother, but unfortunately she and Jim can’t have any of their own. So Sarah helps at the school, babysits when asked, and loves Jim with all her heart.” “I see.” Lola struggled not to burst into tears. The situation facing the Browns was awful and empathy for them welled within Lola. “What you don’t see is that Jim doesn’t believe in any higher power. He is a good man simply because it’s right, not for glory, salvation, or accolades. Sarah believes in the Christian God, and right now she is reciting a poem of sorts about God carrying them through the difficult times.” Lola nodded her head, familiar with the poem. She herself had a copy of it and found it soothed her, despite the deity it cited. “What’s going to happen to them? Can you see that?” “I know what will happen this day, and I can intuit a prosperous future, but no, I can’t tell you for sure.” Tamen motioned to the Browns. Sarah had left the stove and now stood behind Jim, her hands on his back. It looked to Lola as if the woman were trying to absorb her husband’s pain. Lola turned back to Tamen. “If this is your way of proving I should have faith, it sucks. This man doesn’t even have any, yet you say he’s a good man regardless. Is the Great Mother punishing him?” Tamen shook his head. “No, Lola. Watch and wait.” Lola crossed her arms in front of her body and watched.
Chapter 11 Jim Brown sat up in his chair and sighed heavily. He had to stop feeling sorry for himself. “I’m sorry, Sarah. Sorry I couldn’t give you what you wanted more than anything, sorry I’m going to lose the farm.” “Jim, you know I don’t blame you for either of those things. It’s God’s will that we are barren, and it’s His will that we weather this storm.” Sarah’s voice soothed his heart, but her belief that everything would be fine stirred his ire. “Sarah, you know…” A rap at the door interrupted Jim. Sarah stepped back to let him up from his seat. Jim rose and went to the kitchen door. He was shocked at who stood there. “Mr. Mayor! What’s going on?” Jim laid a hand on the doorframe to steady himself. It looked to him as though everyone from the small town of Miner stood on his lawn. “Jim,” the mayor removed his hat, “we’re here because it’s time the people of Miner gave back to you.” “I don’t understand.” He took a few unsteady steps out onto the porch. Sarah stayed in the doorway, her face split with a wide smile and tears shining in her eyes. He looked back at the mayor. The older man moved to Jim’s side and clapped him on the back. “You know how small Miner is, Jim. It’s hard to keep secrets here.” Comprehension dawned on Jim and he tried to tell the mayor to stop. Mayor Blackman waved off Jim’s interjection. “Now there’s nothing to be ashamed about or to get your back up over, Jim. You remember my daughter Jenny?” A young woman moved out from the crowd, her short brown hair and youthful face familiar. “Yes.” Jim nodded to Jenny.

“Last year you pulled her car out of a ditch, fixed it up for her, and brought it back without asking for anything and only accepting a piece of pie in thanks. Is that right?” “Well, it wasn’t anything to fix, Mr. Mayor. No trouble at all.” Jim was worried he couldn’t handle what he knew was coming. “Well, Jim, Jenny works at the bank in Sioux Falls. She told me what happened. Jim, what you did for Jenny is the same thing you’ve done for all of us at one time or another. You’re a good man and we can’t just stand by and watch you lose your home.” The mayor reached into his coat and pulled out an envelope, handing it to Jim. “Jim, Sarah, that’s a receipt. I knew you’d never take the money we collected for you, so I gave it to Jenny to deposit into your account. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to catch you up. The letter in there is from the bank manager, telling you everything is settled. You don’t need to worry, son.” Jim locked his knees to keep from falling on his ass. He looked out across the sea of his neighbors, awed by their generosity. A light touch on his arm swung Jim’s head around. Sarah stood beside him, tears sliding down her face. “I told you God would see us through.” Jim swallowed hard past the lump in his throat and nodded, his arm going around the waist of the woman he loved, drawing support and strength from her. Jim cleared his throat twice before meeting the eyes of the crowd. “I can’t tell you how much this means to me and to Sarah. I don’t know how to thank you, all of you, for what you’ve done.” “Don’t worry about that. You two have yourselves a Merry Christmas and keep on doing what you do. That’s thanks enough.” Murmurs of assent rose from the crowd. Jim shook the hand the mayor extended. “I have stew and coffee inside. It’s not enough for everyone, but we’re happy to share what we have. Why don’t you come in and celebrate the generosity of the spirit with us?” Sarah addressed everyone. A happy cheer erupted from all present and as one Sarah and Jim went into the kitchen and made ready to entertain.

Lola and Tamen stood in a quiet corner and watched as the party went on long into the night. It seemed several townsfolk brought covered dishes with them. In the end they had plenty of food for everyone and the group enjoyed much revelry. When the last guests left, Sarah started to clean up the mess. Jim came up behind her and kissed her neck. “Sarah, I love you. The only thing that could make this day complete would be…” Sarah placed her fingers on his lips. “Jim, all I ever wanted was to be a mother and a wife. But don’t you see that I am a mother? Just because we don’t have children doesn’t change what I am. I’m a nurturer, a caretaker, a sympathetic ear, all the things a good mother is.” Jim kissed her fingers and hugged her close. The warm embrace turned heated and Lola turned away from the couple. “I think we should give them some privacy.” Tamen agreed with Lola. He moved them from the living room to the porch, thankful they wouldn’t feel the cold, crisp, midwestern winter night. “Well, Lola, have I proven my point? Have I proven you haven’t misplaced your faith?” Tamen’s brown eyes searched her face for some sign he had accomplished his goal. Instead of answering, Lola sighed. She hated lying to him, and after what she’d just seen, she couldn’t anymore. Her faith had only strengthened over the last hours, her surety in the Great Mother’s love solid as stone. “Let me ask you something, Tamen. Are you so unaffected by all of this? Do you feel the beginnings of a faith in something greater than yourself?” “I don’t know, Lola.” He shook his head and rubbed a hand across his chest. “I’m beginning to have questions, but I won’t say it’s faith.” Lola nodded and walked toward Tamen. A cry of ecstasy from within the house startled her. She blushed and looked up at Tamen who smiled in response. “They’re such good people, Tamen. I wish we could give them the family they want.” Her hand slid over her abdomen and a frisson of magic kicked inside. Tamen’s

hand settled over hers as he pulled her into his arms. He, too, believed Jim Brown and his wife deserved to have a miracle. Their love for each other, and their generosity for others, moved Tamen. He wanted to do something for them. “I can do something, Lola.” “What?” “I can work some magic, which if their love is as strong as I feel it is, could create a child from the power of their love, despite whatever physical problems they may have.” “A real child?” Lola gripped his hand within hers. “Yes, a real child.” “Wait a minute, is that safe for you? I mean you said your people, your magic are fading.” Lola turned in his arms. “How dangerous is this?” “Don’t worry, love. I’ll need to go home, but I’ll be fine.” He gave her a soft smile, and smoothed his hands over her hair. “Will you come with me to Tir na nÓg, Lola?” “Yes, of course I will!” He’d called her love. It was all she needed to know, without a doubt, where she belonged. Love for Tamen burst from her heart to fill her body, setting her body alight with emotional fulfillment. She hugged him close and breathed in his scent. Tamen began to chant the words to fulfill the wish of the Browns. Magic whirled in the air, dancing like lightning bugs and filling the night with powerful energy. He felt Lola shift so she could see what was happening. His magic built, growing as large as a man. Then, with a thunderclap only Tamen could hear, it collapsed upon itself and became a tiny glowing orb. Lola gasped in awe and Tamen sent the little gift into the house. He closed his eyes and followed the spell. Jim and Sarah lay close in the sated aftermath. Sarah saw the ball of light before Jim. She went rigid and gripped his arms fiercely. What he saw stunned Jim, not sure whether to believe or not. The sphere stopped above Sarah’s belly, hovering there. The Browns looked at each other.

“Yes,” Sarah whispered. In an instant the magic entered her body, filling her empty womb with life. Jim placed his hand over the spot where the spell entered Sarah’s body and let the tears filling his eyes fall. They clutched at each other, crying, laughing, and kissing. “Thank you, God,” Jim sobbed. He finally believed.
Chapter 12 “It worked.” Tamen sagged against Lola, energy waning and magic nearly gone. “Tamen!” Lola staggered beneath his weight. “What have you done?” Lola shifted her feet and slung his right arm over her shoulders. “Tamen? Can you get us home?” He groaned and dug deep, pulling the last of his magic together to transport them to his home. He held onto Lola and hoped it was enough. When the magical whirlwind began, Lola cried out with relief. It was the last sound Tamen heard before blackness overtook him.
*** “Tamen, wake up, my love.” Lola’s gentle voice filtered through the fog clouding his mind. He fought to open his eyes, wincing against the brightness of light. “Thank the Great Mother! You’re awake! King Lugh! He’s awake!” Lola left Tamen’s side and greeted his king. Together they came back to the bed. “What’s going on?” Tamen’s throat hurt and his voice grated. Lola lifted a glass of water to his lips. “You’re fading.” King Lugh looked down at his most beloved subject and frowned. “I knew I would. But I had to do it, Lugh, for them.” Tamen hoped the king could understand. Lugh nodded his head and reached for Tamen’s hand. They gripped each other for a moment, before Lugh released him and left the room. “What did you do?” “I stretched myself further than I should have, but it was for a good reason.” Tamen expected to see tears in Lola’s eyes, but instead saw a spark of anger.

“Don’t be angry with me, love. Tap into your faith, share it with me,” Tamen entreated. Lola stormed away from him. “You’re such an idiot! Don’t you see? I never lost my faith! I questioned it, yes. But, Tamen, this journey of ours has been about you, not me! Your faith will save you and your people, not mine!” Anger, frustration, and irritation bubbled over inside Lola. She screeched with it, tugging at her hair. “No, you’re wrong.” Tamen’s voice grew weaker, but he tried to sit up. Lola whirled on him, magnificent in her fury. His body reacted, even as it faded, to the potent vibrancy that radiated from the woman he loved. “No, I’m not. Tamen, the Sidhe aren’t some story of man come to life. You are a creation of the Great Mother, and when you turned to the worship of man she allowed you to make that choice. All you need to bring life to Tir na nÓg, and your people, is to realize that. Accept the Mother and have the faith that she will protect and care for you. Think about Jim and Sarah, Tamen! Please, try for me and for our future!” Lola had moved back to his side during her impassioned speech and now she reached out to clutch his hands to her heart. She watched as Tamen pondered her words, praying with every fiber of her being for him to see the truth. She wanted to wail, her sorrow building as the color fled from his skin and his hair became brittle. Each second he took to think was another second closer to death. Please, Mother, please. Let him see, open his mind to what I know is in his heart. Kiss him. Love him. The grace of the Great Mother filled her. Lola smiled and leaned into Tamen. “I love you, Tamen. I always will. Kiss me, please.” Her lips feathered over his, savoring the feel of his flesh before pressing their mouths together. Tamen murmured something unintelligible then wrapped his arms tightly about her, holding her close. The kiss was soft, wet, and lush. All of their love expressed in the press of his lips to hers. Her tongue slid past his teeth, dueling with his, swallowing his moan of pleasure and sorrow into her body. Fire rose within her, the pure flames of the Great Mother.

Do you believe, Tamen? Do you believe in hope, in love, in faith? Lola’s question filled his mind. He saw the jubilant faces of the children in the hospital, the dark eyes of a child thought lost. He remembered the faith inside Sarah Brown and the compassion and generosity of the people of Miner. Finally, he felt the love within Lola, her hope and trust, and he accepted what he’d forced himself to ignore his entire life. Pulling his mouth from Lola’s, Tamen looked deeply into her emerald eyes. “Yes, I believe.” Lola’s body shimmered for a moment, glowing as bright as the sun. Heat and emotion poured off her in waves and when she smiled at him, Tamen thought he would go blind. She laid herself over him, and pressed her lips to his again, and all of the power, the magic emanating from her poured into Tamen. His body bowed with the rush of energy. It burned through him, filling and invigorating his depleted form. Joy, hope, faith, love, every emotion possible danced within him. He cried out, overwhelmed by it all, tears pouring from his eyes, laughter bubbling from his belly. “I love you, Lola. I love you!” Snow swirled around the room, evidence of his health and vehemence. Lola inhaled deeply and laughed before sticking out her tongue to catch the pristine flakes. Tamen held her close and laughed with her, brushing flakes from her hair and rubbing his thumb over her lips. Lola swatted his hand aside, eager to taste snow and rejoice over the gifts of the Great Mother. All the ruckus they were making drew the attention of the king, who had been waiting outside the room. Lugh burst in, taking in the remnants of magic and the flurry of flakes. He gaped at the healthy and whole Tamen, his feet rooted in place. “What has happened? How are you healed?” Tamen and Lola turned to the king, huge smiles bursting across their faces. “My king, I have something to show you.” Tamen reached out to Lugh, waiting for the king of the Sidhe to take his hand. Lugh came slowly, uncertain what was happening. But he trusted Tamen above all others, so he placed his hand in the other Sidhe’s grip. Light danced around the king, magic flooded his body, and in his mind he understood. The power of the Great Mother

filled him, renewed his faith, and from him it flowed out into Tir na nÓg and all the Sidhe. Lugh saw in his mind the meadows bloom, the trees revitalized. Magical creatures, long thought gone, cavorted in fields of flowers. The sparkle of magic touched everything. Lugh fell to his knees, humbled by the power of a goddess long forgotten. Tears welled in his eyes as he realized how much his people had suffered because of their lost faith. His hand slipped from Tamen’s, to cradle his head as he wept. “He’ll be all right, love,” Tamen reassured Lola, soothing her worried expression. Lola smiled and kissed him again. “Merry Christmas, Tamen.” Tamen laughed and squeezed her close. “You know, we call it Yule.” Lola giggled. “Yeah I know, and I celebrate them both. I’m greedy.” His roar of laughter drew Lugh from his sorrow and to his feet. Celebrations needed planning. The Sidhe had a Great Mother to thank.
Chapter 13 “Ugh.” Lola curled her lip, while yet another burp gurgled from her gut. She smacked Tamen’s bare ass, trying to get his body moving. They’d been out late yesterday, in the mortal realm, helping Lola’s neighbors, including Mrs. Nolton, find good housing and the money to secure it. The magic of the Sidhe came in handy when one needed miracles. Lola smiled to herself, so happy they’d been able to help all the people in her building. Though neither of them wanted to be awake, morning sickness waited for no one. Her stomach pitched and she swallowed hard. The Great Mother had gifted Lola with more than the love of her life. When her power had filled Lola five days past, she’d also made Lola Sidhe. Her outside hadn’t changed, but inside she’d transformed into a near immortal and had been gifted with magical ability all her own. The only downside was her accelerated pregnancy. The Sidhe were only pregnant for five and a half months. As a result, Lola was suffering unholy morning sickness a bare week into her pregnancy. And having spent so little time doing anything but making love the past few days, she hadn’t had time to figure out the ins and outs of her magic yet. Lola pinched Tamen’s ass cheek, hard, needing him to wake up and attend to her problem before it got ugly. “Hey!” Tamen rolled to face her, his hand automatically coming to rest low on her abdomen. The tiny life inside, not yet big enough to bulge her tummy, gave a magic jolt at his father’s caress. “Hey yourself. I need some damn soda crackers or I’m going to throw up. Again.” Tamen smothered his laugh and conjured the crackers on which Lola lived these days. He felt terrible that she was sick, but pregnancy became her nonetheless. She shone with life and love, even when she was feeling poorly.

“It’ll pass soon, love.” Lola grumbled a response and continued to chew her crackers carefully. The sight of her naked body was more than Tamen could ignore. The Yule celebrations would soon be underway in Tir na nÓg, a little late but welcome and necessary. He knew they didn’t have time to linger in bed, but he couldn’t resist tasting Lola. He bent to take the nipple closest to him into his mouth. He suckled the hard crown softly, relishing her moan of response. Without leaving her breast, he trailed his fingers over her body, settling them between her thighs. The cream of her desire coated his hand as he plucked her clit and teased the lips of her pussy. Soon, Lola was writhing, crackers abandoned, her fingers buried in his hair and pulling hard. “Don’t tease me, Tamen.” Lola’s growled command made his blood surge, his cock growing harder and thicker in anticipation of filling her hot hole. He slowly thrust two fingers inside her, testing her sensitivity. She rolled her hips, lifting them into him, and Tamen moved between her legs. The slow glide of his cock into her pussy was incredible. Lola loved the feel of him stretching her, the feel of her body becoming liquid with desire. Images flashed in her mind of Tamen between her legs, his face buried between the lips of her pussy, tongue lapping up each drop of her juices. She cried out for him to move faster, to take her. Her hands slid down his back to clutch his ass as she tried to force him deeper. He lunged into her, giving her all his cock, and she moaned with lusty abandon. He was careful not to take her too hard, ever conscious of the life within her. But Lola knew the baby would be fine, and she needed him to fuck her. “Fuck me, Tamen! Make me come!” She slid her index finger between the cheeks of his ass, teasing the tight aperture hidden there. Over the last few days, Lola had conquered every part of him, including this secret place. Tamen shuddered and rammed into her. Needing to be inside him just as he was inside of her, Lola slid her other hand between their bodies and gathered some of her juices on the tips of her fingers. She took her finger from between his cheeks and pulled them apart, sliding her

slippery ones over his anus. Soon it was slick with her desire and she pressed inside him. “Yes!” Tamen groaned loudly as she worked her finger into his ass. Her eyes met his and they began to thrust into one another. He pounded his cock into her, then thrust hard against her hand, each stroke working them into a frenzy of desire, need, and love. Orgasm shimmered on the horizon. “I’m coming!” Her pussy convulsed around him, her body rippling as the pleasure moved outward from her clit. Tamen’s orgasm sparked in the small of his back, making his balls shiver and draw tight. Her hot pussy gripping him, her finger filling his ass, pushed him over the edge and he came hard with three hard thrusts. “Yes!” The contractions of his ass around her finger set Lola off again, the feel of his orgasm blending with hers until she couldn’t tell where one stopped and the other started. Sated, happy, and no longer sick, Lola slowly withdrew her finger from his body and let her whole body relax. Tamen collapsed beside her, his breath heaving. “Damn, woman, you’re going to kill me. Don’t fall asleep, we have a party to go to, you know.” Soft laughter carried his words and Lola smiled. “Just a couple minutes. I love you, Tamen.” She stroked his back before rolling to her side. Tamen kissed her neck as he settled behind her. “I love you, too.” Conjuring a blanket to cover them, Tamen sent a silent prayer to the Great Mother. Thank you for showing me the way. Warmth suffused him before his eyes closed for just a few more minutes.
*** Though more than a week late, the Yule celebration rivaled anything from the Sidhe’s oral history. All Sidhe, from the sluagh to the brownies, attended. Color suffused every surface of Tir na nÓg, from the king’s ballroom and palace, to the fields of wild blooming flowers, to the shores of Manannan Mac Lir’s seas. Every hue was in residence, from the tiny pixies’ butterfly-like wings to the varied colors of the Sidhe themselves. Magic ran wild, filling up the souls of his people until they overflowed

with it. Tamen smiled to himself as he and Lola made their way to the king’s side. He’d never been so happy in his life. “Lola, Tamen. I see you’re fashionably late.” King Lugh raised a brow at them and Lola blushed becomingly. “My king. We were gone until early this morning, helping Lola’s neighbors find new homes.” Tamen’s eyes twinkled with mischief, causing Lugh to chortle. “I’m sure you were only catching up on sleep,” Lugh chuckled. Lola socked Tamen in the side, growling at him to behave. He hugged her close and kissed her soundly, quelling her irritation. The trio looked out across the mass of colorful bodies, vibrant and alive and safe in the arms of the Great Mother. “Now that you’ve saved us, Tamen, what will you do?” Lugh knew the quest to cure the Sidhe had driven Tamen his entire life. “Have a houseful of children and make love to my wife! And get back to being Lord of the Frost. Speaking of which,” Tamen made a small movement with his index finger and snow began to fall inside the room. He released Lola, knowing she wanted to dance in her beloved winter kisses. “Will that really be enough?” Lugh moved closer to Tamen, looking deeply into his eyes. “It will be more than enough, my king. However, my wife is such a giving soul, I imagine she’ll keep me busy sharing my faith and love with mortals who need it. We’re going to visit an old friend of Lola’s next week. A little girl she holds close in her heart. If my Lady has her way, I doubt I’ll have time for any more personal quests.” Lugh chuckled and slapped his hand to Tamen’s shoulder. The king thought Lola might disagree.
