1-1 Creating a Slideshow How do I use CyberLink PowerDirector 10 to instantly turn my photos into a movie clip? CyberLink PowerDirector includes the Slideshow Creator, which is specifically designed for creating photo slideshow videos. You can use the twelve built-in slideshow templates to add stylish effects and background music to your photos, creating a professional-looking slideshow in a short amount of time. Set your project’s aspect ratio 1. Once CyberLink PowerDirector 10 is launched, you are prompted to select the editing mode you prefer.

2. Set your project’s aspect ratio as 4:3 and then select Slideshow Creator.

Note: Double check the aspect ratio of your photos before setting the corresponding aspect ratio to 16:9 or 4:3.

Chapter 1 - Quick Start Tips Import the photos to be used in your slideshow 1. In the Source window, click to import the photos you want to use in your slideshow.

2. Select Import an Image Folder.

Tip: Put all the photos you want imported in one folder so that you can import all of them at once. 3. Select the folder where the photos are located and then click Select Folder.

Knowledge Base: Click to remove any unwanted photos from the Slideshow Creator. Please note that these photos will not be deleted from your computer’s hard drive.

1. Select the style you prefer, and then click to add background music to your slideshow.

2. Choose an audio file and then click Open.

Knowledge Base: After adding music, you can click the Slideshow Preferences button and the Music Preferences button to set your preferences. Slideshow Preferences: use this option to set the length of your slideshow. Select Fit photos to music to have the length of the slideshow match the duration of the added background music. When the length of the slideshow is longer than the background music, a fade out effect is applied to the photos, or the photos are repeated until the end of the background music. Select Fit music to photos (default setting) for the length of the music to match the duration of the slideshow. When the duration of the music is longer

Chapter 1 - Quick Start Tips than the length of slideshow, a fade effect is applied to the music, or the music will be repeated until the end of the slideshow. Music Preferences: use this option to customize the music duration and to add fades.

Preview your slideshow 1. Click to preview your slideshow.

2. Click to stop previewing the slideshow and then click Next to continue.

Output your slideshow After you have created a slideshow, you can output it to a video file, burn it to a disc, or perform more advanced editing on it. The following outlines how to output a slideshow to a video file. 1. Click Produce Video, and then click Finish.

3. Select the WMV format and then select Windows Media Video 9 FULL HD Quality [1920x1080]. Click to set the output folder and file name.

4. Enter "slideshow" as the file name, and then click Save.

5. Click Start to output your slideshow to a video.

Chapter 1 - Quick Start Tips 6. CyberLink PowerDirector produces your video. The produced contents will be shown in the preview window on the right. The remaining time for producing is shown the bottom right corner. 7. Once the production is complete, the .WMV is included in your media library. Save your project to include it in the project.

1-2 Editing 2D Video Clips Do you want to use CyberLink PowerDirector 10 to instantly create professional videos? You can now create a complete video production by following the five steps in the Easy Editor of PowerDirector 10, where you can add starting and ending titles, a wide variety of effects, and background music to your media. If you are new to the video editing process and not sure how to get started, then the Easy Editor can help. 1. Source 1. After CyberLink PowerDirector 10 is launched, select Easy Editor.

Note: The aspect ratio for your media and see whether it is 16:9 or 4:3. 2. In the Source window, click to import all the media you want to use in your video production.

Fit duration to background music: select this option if you want your video production to match the duration of your background music.

1-3 Creating 3D Videos CyberLink PowerDirector 10 now provides a 3D video editing feature, which includes titles, PiP objects, effects, and particle objects in 3D. If you want your 3D video production to include 3D effects, all its media must also be in 3D. Importing 3D Media 1. In the Edit window, click and then select Import a Media Folder.

Extra Information: It is recommended that you put all the media clips you want to use in the same folder so that you can import all of them at once. 2. Select the folder where the media is located and then click Select Folder.

Extra Information: When you are importing a folder, you cannot see the thumbnails or its contents (images, videos, audio files).

There are four different 3D video output formats: H.264 Multi-View Coding , Side-by-Side Full Width (L/R), Side-by-Side Half Width (L/R), and Anaglyph. To watch a video outputted in a specific format, you have to use a corresponding 3D device. We will elaborate on this in chapter 3 and the following just gives you an introduction. If you choose the Anaglyph (Red/Cyan) format, you can wear red/blue glasses to watch your video on a general display. However, if you choose Side-by-Side Full Width (L/R), Side-by-Side Half Width (L/R), and H.264 Multi-View Coding, you must use a 3D display, 3D glasses, and a 3D media player to watch your created video. 3. Select Desktop and then click Save.

2-1 Timeline Introduction "One must have the correct tools to get the job done" as the saying goes. You should get familiar with the workspace before you can create professional looking movies using CyberLink PowerDirector 10. The following outlines how to get the most out of the editing workspace. When you launch CyberLink PowerDirector 10, select Full Feature Editor to enter the classic mode of CyberLink PowerDirector, where all of the program's features are available to you.

2-1-1 The Editing Workspace The editing workspace has two different views: the Timeline and Storyboard views. Timeline view: this is for more advanced video editing.

Storyboard view: this view displays thumbnails of all the media files (images and videos) in your video. You must switch back to the Timeline view to use other features, such as adding text or effects.

Chapter 2 - Basic Features Knowledge Base: The media length is displayed in the format of four sets of numbers 00;00;00;00 (hour; minute; second; frame), and 29.97 frames represent one second. For example, 00;01;05;10 means 1 minute, 5 seconds, and 10 frames.

2-1-2 Resizing the timeline You can resize the timeline at any time to get a better view of the media on a specific track or your entire project. Manually Resizing the Timeline Move the mouse to the timeline ruler. When the cursor becomes the icon, drag the cursor to the left for zoom out or drag the cursor to the right for zoom in the timeline.

Please note this does not change the duration of the individual media files. Right click the mouse on the timeline ruler and then select View Entire Movie in the pop-up menu.

2-1-3 Setting Timeline Height CyberLink PowerDirector 10 allows you to add up to 100 media tracks to the timeline. You can adjust the timeline height and width at any time if you have a large number of tracks in the editing workspace. Setting Track Height The timeline workspace has three custom track heights: small, medium, or large. You can set the desired track height by right clicking the mouse anywhere on the timeline and then selecting the Adjust Track Height option in the pop-up menu.

Manually Adjusting a Track’s Height Move the mouse to the border of the track you want to adjust. When an up/down arrow cursor is displayed, drag the cursor up and down to either expand or reduce the height of the individual timeline track.

2-1-4 Track Behavior The editing workspace contains six default tracks: editing track 1, effect track, editing track 2, title track, voice track, and music track. The editing track contains a video track and an audio track.

If more tracks are required for editing your production, instead opening the Track Manager, you can simply drag any media to the last editing track, and the program will automatically add a new editing track. 1. Moving a Track You can manually arrange the order of the tracks in the timeline, setting what media displays on top of the other media. The media on the track with the highest number displays on top of the other media, overlapping the other corresponding media in the preview window. 1. Change the order by dragging editing track 5 up.

2. Hold down the left mouse button and drag it above the effect track.

3. After you release the mouse, editing track 5 becomes editing track 2, and the order of all the tracks is rearranged.

2-1-5 Track Name If you have lots of media on multiple tracks, you can give each track a custom name to make them easier to identify. . 1. Move the mouse to the border of the tracks. When the cursor becomes an icon with two arrows, click and hold the mouse button and then drag the icon to the right.

3. You can customize a track name by entering the desired text in the field provided.

2-1-6 Timeline Marker You can add timeline markers to the timeline ruler for more precise media clip placement on the timeline. Media clips snap to the timeline markers, the same way they snap to grid lines in the preview window. Adding Timeline Markers 1. Right click the mouse on the timeline ruler and then select Add Timeline Marker.

2-1-7 Range Selection Range selection allows you to easily select a portion of your project for copying and pasting purposes. 1. Click and drag the yellow arrow on the left side of the timeline slider to select a range of media.

2-1-8 Grouping Media Clips When you have multiple media files that want to move to another position, you can simply group them together. Doing this allows you to move all the selected media files at once. You can also ungroup them to allow for individual media file movement. 1. Use the cursor to select several media clips on the timeline.

2-2 Basic Editing Techniques Editing video clips is one of the most important steps in creating your video productions. It is recommended that you finish editing your video clips before adding any effects to them.

2-2-1 Importing Media You have to import media into CyberLink PowerDirector before editing it. There are two options you can select to import your media: Import Media Files and Import a Media Folder. The Import Media Files option allows you to import media files individually, while the Import a Media Folder option allows you to import the all the media files contained in a specific folder. Importing Media Files 1. Click and then select Import Media Files.

2-2-4 Performing a Multi Trim The multi trim function allows you to mark multiple segments of a video clip at once. You can decide to keep or remove the trimmed segments. 1. Select the video clip you want to trim, and then click the Multi Trim button.

2-2-5 Trimming Clips The trim function works in the same way as the multi trim function by marking a video clip before trimming it. However, with multi trim you can trim out multiple segments at once, while you can only trim out one segment using the trim function.

You can use it to quickly split a video clip into two segments and then keep the segment you want or remove the unwanted one. 1. Note: If the position you set with the timeline slider is at the beginning or end of the video clip, the Split function is not available because no video clip can be split at these positions. 2. The video clip is split into two segments.

If your computer has low or limited resources, it is recommended that you select Low Preview Resolution or Normal Preview Resolution for a smoother preview playback. Selecting a lower resolution does not affect the quality of the outputted video. 2-2-10 Backing up Projects (Exporting Projects) When you save a project during the editing process, what you saved is a log of the edits you want to make. The media used in your production is not saved to the project file. By exporting your project, all the media clips, along with the project file that contains the log of edits you want to make to the media, are exported and stored in one place. The exported project or the backup file, is portable and can be imported onto another computer running CyberLink PowerDirector for further editing. 1. Select File>Export>Pack Project Materials.

2-3 Adding Title Effects Adding titles to your video is a very important feature because sometimes you can’t only use videos to convey your message effectively. 2-4 Adding Subtitles Subtitles are text that matches the dialog in videos, usually displayed at the bottom of the screen. The Subtitle Room works similar as the Title Room. However, titles can include special effects, while subtitles only appear as simple text.

You will need to mark the positions first and then import the desired subtitles from either an SRT or text file. Utilizing this function can save you a lot of time.

If you select the Create subtitles for discs option, the video and subtitles are separate, which means you can turn the subtitle on or off in the disc menu. If you choose the Create subtitles imprinted on a video file option, the subtitles are imprinted on the video, which means they become a part of the video. 1. 2-5-2 The Four Types of Transitions There are four types of transitions: the prefix, postfix, cross, and overlap transitions. Postfix Transition: you can add a postfix transition to the end of the first media. The transition and the first media overlaps each other, meaning the transition only works on the first media clip. The second media clip displays after the transition ends. Prefix Transition: you can add a prefix transition to the beginning of the second media. The transition and the second media clip overlap each other, meaning the transition only works on the second media clip. The transition begins after the first media clip ends. You can add a cross transition the same way you add an overlap transition by dragging it between two media clips. The cross transition acts like a bridge between the two media clips, by overlapping them at the same time.

Chapter 2 - Basic Features 1. To toggle between the cross and overlap transitions, simply right click on the transition and then select Modify Transition Behavior.

2. Select either the overlap transition or the cross transition.

After you drag a transition between two media clips, the transition is set as an overlap transition by default. The transition icon moves to the end of the first media clip. When you modify the transition behavior to a cross transition, the transition shows up between the two media clips. You can tell which type of transition you are using by judging where your transition is located.

2-5-3 Quickly Applying Random Transitions When working with lots of media files in your production, it can take a lot of time if you have to drag the transitions to the timeline and apply them to all of your media clips. CyberLink PowerDirector 10 provides a function to quickly applying transitions. What you have to do is add the desired transitions to your favorites and then apply them to your media clips on the timeline in a randomly. In the Transition Room, click the button in the upper right corner of the Style window. You can select Apply Random Transition to All Videos or Apply Fading Transition to All Videos. Another way to quickly applying transitions is to select a specific transition folder, and then click (Apply random transition effect to all videos).

Extra Information: You can click show all the transition folders.

2-5-4 Quickly Applying Specified Transitions If there are several transitions you use quite often, you can add them to your favorites, so you can access and apply them more quickly. 1. Click to display the explorer view, where you will see all the transition folders.

3. Select All Content, and then right click on the desired transition. Select Add to Favorites.

Extra Information: When a transition is added to your favorites, the My Favorites folder shows a corresponding number, telling you how many transitions there are in the folder.

2-6 Using the Effect Room The Effect Room includes dozens of amazing special effects that you can access and apply to your images and video clips. You can add dynamic effects to your production simply by dragging them to the effect track in the timeline or directly onto your media clips. Afterwards, you will see the applied effect in the preview window.

2-6-1 Adding Effects to the Effect Track There are two methods for applying special effects. One is to drag an effect to the effect track. 1. Click Room.

When adding effects directly to the effect track, only one special effect is shown during the interval. If you want to apply several special effects to your media clips, you must apply these effects directly to the media clips. The benefit of adding an effect to the effect track is that the selected effect is applied to all the editing tracks that are positioned above in the timeline.

2-6-2 Adding Special Effects to Media Clips You can add several special effects directly to a media clip and apply them at the same time. However, the added effects are applied to the entire duration of the clip. If you want to add a special effect only to a portion of the clip, you have to use the Split button to separate it into several portions. By doing so, you can add the special effect to one of them, without affecting the other portions. 1. Use the Split button to separate the clip into three portions.

2. Drag and drop the desired effect onto the second portion.

3. In the preview window, you will see the applied effect on the effect track and the effect applied directly to the media clip.

2-6-3 An Introduction to the Effect Track The effect track is used exclusively for placing special effect clips. Repositioning the track in the timeline affects how the effects are applied to the media clips in your production. For example, if there are media clips on editing track 1 and editing track 2, and the effect track is located between them. The effect on the effect track is applied to editing track 1, but not to editing track 2.

If you move the effect track below editing track 2, the effect is applied to both editing tracks 1 and 2.

To sum up, the effects are only applied when it is positioned below an editing track. When it is above an editing track, the selected effects do not show up.

2-6-4 Using Keyframes to Customize Effects When applying predefined effects to media clips, the same attributes are used whether it is placed on the effect track or directly applied onto the media clips. You can use the Keyframe button to customize the effect’s settings at different time frames. The following describes how to use utilize keyframes. 1. Select the effect on the effect track, and then click the Keyframe button.

2. Select Effect to display the available settings in the panel.

2-8 The PiP Objects Room Media clips (images or videos) that display over other media in your project is called a PiP (Picture-in-Picture) effect. In CyberLink PowerDirector 10, all the editing tracks overlap each another. This means the lower the editing track is in the timeline (or with the highest track number), the higher the content displays in your video production, i.e. on top of other media. 2-10-1 Extracting Audio The Extract Audio function is the easiest way of extracting audio from a video clip and saving it as a new audio file for use in your projects. 1. Import the video clip into the Media Room. Right click on its thumbnail and then select Extract Audio.

Music Beat Detection analyzes an audio clip and then adds beat markers on the timeline ruler for more precise arrangement of media clips and titles in your production. You can manually add music beat markers or use the Music Beat Detection feature to have CyberLink PowerDirector automatically detect them for you. 1. Right click on an audio clip and then select Use Automatic Music Beat Detection.

This chapter outlines the ways you can output your production as a video file and upload it to social networking web sites.

2-11-1 Outputting as a 2D Video File CyberLink PowerDirector 10 allows you to output your video production in both 2D and 3D video file formats. If your production contains 3D media, you can output it as a 3D video file. If your production does not contain any media or effects in 3D, just output it as a 2D video file. 1. In the Produce window, click on the Standard 2D tab.

3-1 Creating Hollywood-Like Special Effects - Creating a Fight Scene This chapter explains how to use particle objects to simulate the changes in light and shadows to create the special effects commonly seen in fight scenes in movies.

3-1-1 Creating the Title

This section demonstrates how to use the Cloud effect in the Particle Room as the background, and create the fade-in/fade-out effect for the movie title image. Since the movie title is an image rather than a text file, keyframes have to be used to generate the required transparency on the image.

Knowledge Base: Once you finish adding the fades, you will see a solid line that indicates the opacity change on the image clip. The higher the line, the less transparent the image clip is.

2. Click on the image clip and then on the Modify button to open the PiP Designer. On the motion tab, click the template as shown in the figure to delete the default motion path.

Tip: Duplicating the previous keyframe means the image’s properties (position and size) at the previous keyframe position are copied and assigned to the current keyframe, which in this example creates a motionless effect for the viewers. Now you can utilize the last keyframe to add motion to the image. Please note that you have to change the image size and position for the following keyframe.

Another cutaway needs to be added before the next scene. The new cutaway has the same properties as the previous cutaway created in 3-2-3, and what needs to be replaced is only the text image. Click and drag the arrows on either side of the timeline slider to select the content of the previous cutaway. Then, click the Copy button.

3-3 Time-Lapse Photography 3-3-1 What is Time-Lapse Photography? Time-lapse photography is a cinematic effect, whereby a naturally slow process, such as the construction of a building or the motion of the sun in the sky, is photographed on film at intervals so that continuous projection of the frames gives an accelerated view of the process. When the captured frames are replayed at normal speed, time appears to be moving faster. Time-lapse photography is accomplished by taking multiple exposures over time at a fixed position, and then playing the captured frames continuously to result in an apparent increase of speed. This technique is often used to photograph the changes in nature, such as a sea of clouds and the setting sun.

Chapter 4 - Supplem entary Inform ation: 3D Technology What kind of hardware device do you need to preview 3D videos during the editing process in CyberLink PowerDirector 10? What are the 3D video formats supported by the program? The following outlines the basics of 3D video production.

4-1 What is 3D? 2D (2 Dimensional) is an image that consists of dots and lines that lack depth, or a 3rd dimension. A 3D (3 Dimensional) image has a length, width, and depth, which do not lie on the same plane. When viewing media in 3D, our eyes are tricked into believing the image has depth, or is 3-dimensional. This is done by showing each of your eyes a separate image, which then gives the illusion of 3D. The image for the left eye and the image for the right eye are combined by the brain through the "stereopsis" process, to produce the 3D depth.

A "dead angle" is an area masked by another part of an object, and therefore not seen. For each eye, the object has a different dead angle.

To produce 3D perception, the masked zone near the viewer creates a different viewing angle for each eye.

A pair of 3D glasses provides a corresponding viewing angle for each eye to create a stereoscopic view.

4-3 3D Video Output Formats Anaglyphic (A Red/Cyan Source Format) "Anaglyphic 3D" is a technique for providing a stereoscopic 3D effect using anaglyph images. These images are viewed with glasses that have two lenses of a different color, such as red and blue.

The anaglyph (red/cyan) process is primarily used in creating 3D television programs or in older 3D films. The red/blue glasses generate the 3D images through the filtering of colors. To create a 3D presentation, an anaglyph image is made up of two color layers, superimposed, but offset with respect to each. The red/blue glasses help filter the colors and make the images on both channels overlap to produce a 3D depth effect. As shown in the figure, the blue image (layer) is displayed through the red filter, while the red image (layer) is shown through the blue filter when an anaglyph image is viewed through a pair of red/blue glasses. The filtered images seen by each eye are then combined to generate a 3D image. Please note that anaglyphic 3D is a relatively older 3D presentation technique, which is why it tends to generate a 3D effect of poorer quality. After viewing anaglyph images for a long time, viewers may suffer from the ghosting, color distortion and sickness caused by the red/blue glasses.

Chapter 4 - Supplem entary Inform ation: 3D Technology Polarized Display and Polarized Glasses (Passive) Light travels in the form of a wave, which can be refracted through a polarizing filter, vertically or horizontally.

Using this refracting method, the original resolution of an image is reduced by 50 percent after the polarization of light. This technique is employed in most 3D cinemas and theaters, such including IMAX theaters. Polarized 3D glasses and a polarized display work together to restrict the light that reaches each eye, ensuring that each eye sees a different image from slightly different perspectives. As shown in the figure, the viewer's left eye sees the images created by the vertical light waves (the orange arrows), while their right eye sees the images generated by the horizontal light waves (the green arrows). The left and right polarizing filters have opposite polarizations, and the polarized display has two overlapping images. Each filter is polarized so that each of the viewer's eyes can only see one of the two overlapping images. This is used to produce a three-dimensional effect by projecting the same scene, from slightly different perspectives, into each eye.

Chapter 4 - Supplem entary Inform ation: 3D Technology High-frequency Scanning Display (Active) Current 3D LCD displays come with a high-frequency scanning technology. They produce a 3D depth effect by alternating the images created for the left eye and the right eye. To avoid a flickering image, these displays work at a frequency higher than 120 Hz. They provide one eye with 120 Hz images for one second, and then the same for the other eye for the next second. Each eye receives more than 60 images per second so the viewer can’t tell that the images are being alternated.

Currently, the majority of high-frequency scanning display devices come with active shutter glasses, giving users the full 3D viewing experience. This type of shutter glasses, like NVIDIA® 3D Vision™, use liquid crystal lens and alternate "Opacity" (Close) and "Transparent" (Open) for the lens using electronic signals. The figure above shows how when the high-frequency display is sending an image to the left eye, the active shutter glasses receives a signal to "open" its left lens and "close" its right lens. Similarly, when the display is sending an image for the right eye, the glasses closes its left lens. This procedure is repeated at a frequency high enough to let persistence of vision smooth out the sequence of flashes so that the perceived image is continuous. This technique is used to produce a threedimensional effect by projecting the same scene, from slightly different perspectives, into each eye.

Chapter 4 - Supplem entary Inform ation: 3D Technology The 3D video output formats supported by CyberLink PowerDirector 10 fall into four types: H.264 Multi-View Coding, Side-by-Side Full Width (L/R), Side-by-Side Half Width (L/R), and Anaglyph. To watch a video outputted in a specific format, you have to use a corresponding 3D device. If you choose the Anaglyph (Red/Cyan) format, you can wear the red/blue glasses to watch your video on a general display. However, if you choose Side-by-Side Full Width (L/R), Side-by-Side Half Width (L/R), and H.264 Multi-View Coding, you must use a 3D display, 3D glasses, and a 3D media player to watch your created video.
