CHAPTER ONE Sara Jean pulled on her knee-high boots as she prepared to head out. She had ten minutes to get her ass down to the foreign dignitary's reception suite, known as the DRS, a good fifteen-minute walk from her own quarters. As usual, she would be late. She would have liked to say it was because she'd overslept; to be honest she hated playing tour guide to the masses of alien visitors that arrived at the invitation of the federation. Most were rude and spoke to her as though she were a servant. Giving one last quick look in the mirror, Sara Jean grabbed her ID and exited, with no clue who she might be meeting. Most of the time, the chief liaison officer provided her with paperwork when she drew this duty, so Sara Jean could easily prepare for whomever needed to be shown about the space station. She would know whether to look them in the eye or keep her head lowered, if she was allowed to speak directly or needed to hold her tongue. The heads-up would also clue her in on whether she needed to dress like a nun covered in layers of heavy fabric, as with some of the visitors from planets where the females were subservient to the males. Unfortunately, for this unplanned visit she had nothing. The corridors were already packed as she hastened 1

to her destination; with the holiday season upon them most people were out searching for gifts for their significant others and family members. Sara Jean was alone here, which might be why she drew this duty on Christmas Eve. She had spent her entire life on the various federation space stations, so it'd seemed an obvious choice to sign on for service when she reached the age of eighteen. This was her third station in the past eight years since her mother's death, and for the most part she found one station pretty much the same as the next. A self-proclaimed introvert, Sara Jean spent most evenings watching life rather than jumping in with both feet and becoming an active participant. It was safer to be alone than risk being left behind when the federation called friends or family to service elsewhere. Her mother's sorrow and torment at her husband's choice to leave his family behind had taught her that. This particular station had been her so-called home for three years now. When the position as junior liaison and supply services officer opened up at the midsized security station, Sara Jean thought it might hold more opportunity to eliminate the restlessness she'd felt; too bad that turned out not to be the case. grumbled under her breath. She hated the feeling of being squished like a sardine in a can, and with over three thousand on board a space station designed for housing only twenty-five hundred it was a pretty good analogy. The only thing good about being stuck with so many people was it allowed her to experience a multitude of cultures continuously. Christmas was a prime example. The halls and common rooms, decorated to express the beliefs of various people, sported holly, trees, and multiple candles. Several of the rooms also contained small groups of children playing with dreidels while snacking on milk and small jam-filled donuts known as sufganiyot. Passing the level five club, the alcohol and party location for those who called this level home, Sara Jean peeked in on the festivities and sighed, wishing she could just drop by for a shot or two of holiday comfort, maybe even find a warm body to spend the evening with. However, duty called as always, and she continued on her way. When at last she reached the entry of the DRS, she glanced down at her watch; yep, late again. Running her hands through her shoulder-length hair and painting on her best smile, she ran her ID across the sensor and stepped through the doorway. Coming to a quick stop just inside, Sara Jean caught herself before allowing her mouth to drop 3

open and a curse to escape her. Three large male Reignites stood talking to Commander Blake. Reignites were notorious warriors known for vicious brutality to their enemies, but the fact they drank blood made people most fearful. Thankfully, they were federation allies. Still, the fact these men were walking about the station would be enough to keep some people from venturing far from their personal quarters. They were the living, breathing vampires of earth folklore, but without the aversion to sunlight or crosses. Of course, they were also some of the sexiest beings in the known universes. All of them were large and muscular, with features that rivaled the ancient Greek gods. They were gorgeous, deadly, and all looking at her as if she were the feature entrée on the dinner menu. "Ah, finally," Commander Blake said, shooting her a disapproving look, which he did regularly. "Lord Azek, may I present Lt. Sara Jean Yeager. She will serve your assemblage on your visit with us. If you need anything, simply ask. Lieutenant, this is Lord Azek, and his omegas, Turku and Pharos. They will be visiting with us for the next three days. I have assigned you to serve as their liaison." A cold chill ran up Sara Jean's spine as the Reignite leader eyed her up and down with a slow, sensual grin on his lips. His bulging muscles and rugged good looks were 4

everything a woman could want and then some. Too bad he showed those nasty sharp fangs when he smiled. She hadn't planned to play nursemaid for three days. So much for her plans to spend the Christmas holiday holed up somewhere, stuffing her face with cookies and complaining about her job. "Lt. Yeager, the Reignites are here to observe and educate themselves on earth traditions dealing with the holiday of Christmas. They have decided, since a good portion of their population has some earthling descent, to incorporate some of the earth traditions into their own. I want you to show them through the station. Explain the traditions we currently observe here and use the hologram deck to demonstrate some more historic aspects, please," Commander Blake ordered before saying his farewells to their guests and excusing himself. Sara Jean stared at the door; normally very longwinded when welcoming visitors, the commander seemed in a bit of a hurry. Too bad he hadn't been as succinct all those times he chewed her out for some menial misstep. "Well, then," she said, turning to smile at her attentive guests. "Let me welcome you, Lord Azek, and your constituents, to Federation Station Five. Where would you like to start?" Sara Jean offered her hand in greeting. She was not certain it was the correct greeting for a 5

Reignite warrior, but thought it might be worth a try. The worst thing he could do was bite her hand off. "We will follow your lead, love. Do with us as you will," Lord Azek said, taking her hand and lifting it to his lips. Sara Jean nearly jerked it back, fearing he indeed intended to bite her. However, when he pressed his mouth to her skin and his tongue caressed her, a flash of heat engulfed her, and Sara Jean thought of several things she would like to do with the Reignite, none of which involved Christmas. "Ok, let's go to the commons area, then. I think the large Christmas tree would be a great start." Sara Jean turned to head out of the room, but not before she caught a gleam of disappointment in the leaders' eyes. **** Azek could not believe his luck. The woman Commander Blake assigned to assist them seemed perfect. When he explained to the leader of the station that he and his two mates needed not only information but also perhaps a strong woman to ease the strain of their travels, he halfexpected the man to ask them to leave. the commander found them an angel with a strong, full body and ice blue eyes to serve as their guide. Of course, now they needed to seduce Sara Jean. As they followed her through the crowded halls decorated

multicolored lights, his second in command, Turku, sucked in a deep breath. Azek knew the sway of the woman's hips caused the reaction. His omega always appreciated a nice ass. Pharos, on the other hand, liked to indulge in the oral pleasures, and Azek knew the man would already be licking his lips in anticipation. It'd been a while since any of them enjoyed a woman completely, and the idea of taking Sara Jean completely sounded tantalizing. As the corridor they moved through opened up into a much larger room, Azek caught sight of a large green tree, which he thought to be fake, sitting in the room's center. The branches hung with twinkling lights in a multitude of colors and bright glass bulbs. Twisted, hooked candies of red and white were dotted about. Beneath the tree sat dozens of wrapped packages, each sporting a large bow and a tag. Azek decided this must be the tree Sara Jean spoke of when they left the DRS. "Is it tradition to hang things upon a tree made of plastic and metal?" Pharos asked when they stopped in front of the large symbol. 7

"The original ones were real trees cut from the land." Sara Jean smiled as she stared up at the highest point, where a star flashed. "The real part is not possible here, of course." "What significance can a tree have?" Turku asked, scratching his head and stepping out of the way as some of the station's children rushed by to deposit more gifts beneath the branches. Azek watched the bright smiles on the small faces as they pointed and guessed what might be in each of the nearby boxes. Like his companions, Azek had no idea of the symbolism of this evergreen serving as the room's focal point, but he enjoyed the happiness the gifts obviously brought to the children. "Actually, they have a really long history on earth, even outside Christianity. The ancient Egyptians used them to symbolize life's conquest over death and the druids believed they represented eternal life and kept evil spirits at bay. People believed Martin Luther, so enchanted by the look of an evergreen with its dark green limbs heavy with snow, brought one inside. Once there he used candles on the limbs to celebrate Christ's birth. The gifts represent those given by the Wiseman." Reaching out, Sara Jean grabbed several of the red and white hooked decorations from one of the limbs and 8

turned around to hand one to each of the men. "These candy sticks were originally used to help children sit quietly during long- winded nativity services at church. Members of the clergy bent the end and said it was symbolic of the shepherds. So the tradition of candy canes was born," she informed him before removing the thin plastic from one and sticking it into her mouth. "The children enjoy this tradition, I am certain," Azek replied after listening to Sara Jean's explanation. He enjoyed the glow on her face and the way her mouth manipulated the candy. Sara Jean's bright smile nearly blinded him and Azek felt his chest tighten—as well as the front of his pants. His desire for "a" woman had changed to a need for one woman in particular and a quick glance to the men at either side of him revealed the others felt the same. They spent a good hour watching the festivities around the tree from chairs placed on a deck above the main floor. It allowed an elevated and more thorough view of the children laughing and screaming in joy as a man dressed in a red suit and hat entered the room carrying a large sack filled with even more gifts. "The guy in the big red suit is Santa Claus," Sara Jean informed them as one of the serving staff brought around cups of some frothy sweet crème for them to enjoy. 9

"We have heard of your Saint Nicolas. He travels with flying animals and visits all the children in a single night," Pharos said as he took the drink offered him and made a face at the taste. Sara Jean laughed aloud before covering her mouth and apologizing. "An apology is not needed. Your laughter is every bit as sweet to our ears as the children's below." Azek's words brought a bright flush to her face, making her even more luminously beautiful than before, something he thought impossible. "How could one man possibly be so many places so quickly? It is illogical," Turku said, sipping his own cup. "It's all just part of the magic; on Christmas all things are possible," Sara Jean replied with a twinkle in her eyes. As they stood to depart this area, the scene made Azek wonder what magic it would take to put the sexy woman in their bed. "Perhaps you will show us more of your human traditions tomorrow evening, once I have completed my meetings with the commander?" Azek asked her, leaning forward to run his fingers across the bare skin of Sara Jean's arm. "We'll all go to the Holograph deck around six tomorrow evening, then." She swallowed hard but did not 10

move away from his touch. "I thought I might show you a few different celebrations taking place around the station before we parted ways." "If you wish." Azek licked his lower lip, thoughts of tasting her dancing in his head. **** Sara Jean's heart pounded so loudly in her ears she felt certain everyone in the room could hear the rapid thumping. The intensity of Azek's gaze coupled with the sensuality of his touch put her in a state of meltdown. His powerful omegas were looking at her with a mirror of the same intensity. At this rate, Sara Jean thought she might need to stop somewhere on the way back to her quarters later this evening and wring out her undies. One thing was for certain: BOB, her battery-operated boyfriend, would be paying her a social visit tonight. After a quick trip down two floors to deck three, Sara Jean led the group into yet another crowded common room. This one contained several large fans angled upward to create a steady wind current in which the room's occupants flew numerous, colorful kites. "This is all part of the Hindu Makara Sankranti, celebrating the movement of the sun during the winter 11

Traditionally it was held around January 14th, but the federation felt it was in the best interest to combine all the various religious holidays into a single timeframe lasting about a week. I think they might have been worried about constant disruptions to the normal function of the stations," Sara Jean told her guests as they watched the vibrant kites dance above them. "These

appreciatively as the group turned to depart. "Nearly as lovely as our hostess." A heated blush spread across Sara Jean's face and she stumbled a moment to respond. "Th-Thank You." **** When she finally escorted the Reignite's back to the DRS, she extended her hand to each, expecting them to shake it or perhaps press it to their mouths as when she first greeted them. Instead, Azek gripped the offering tight and used it to pull her into a firm hug, which buried her face in his chest and filled her lungs with his spicy-sweet scent. When at last he released her, both his companions followed suit until Sara Jean found herself standing at the door, drunk on their essence. Walking back toward her quarters, she was unable 12

to wipe the stupid grin from her face. Several people looked at her as if perhaps she was crazy, but she couldn't care less what anyone on this station thought. Never had anyone made her feel as if she could float. Now these three Reignite men did just that and so much more. At this rate, BOB would need new batteries.

CHAPTER TWO The next evening, the quartet made their way down yet another corridor filled with people. The three males no longer held back but walked one to each side of Sara Jean and one so close to her rear, whenever she stopped he bumped into her. Normally, being followed so tightly would have made her crazy, but this time it had a completely different effect. Sara Jean had never been the center of so much attention or obvious desire and she loved the feeling. "I thought you all would like to witness the traditional holiday meals as they were celebrated a few centuries ago on our planet. Of course, a formal dinner is not something we do here since everyone takes their meals in the commissary," Sara Jean said when they finally arrived and secured a place in one of the holograph pods. "I would have enjoyed this, I think. It's a shame the tradition has fallen by the wayside. The smells are divine." "I am more interested in the taste," Pharos whispered against her ear. His tone left Sara Jean little doubt as to his meaning. His comment also brought a wave of goose bumps to her flesh, which had her rubbing her arms as if she were cold. Pushing the correct code into the keypad and using 14

her swipe card, Sara Jean smiled as the image began to build around them. Within seconds, they were seated at a large oval table. A tall menorah with nine brightly burning candles sat in the center, and eight holo-images were seated with them. The group appeared part of a family scene, and the period of dress looked to be from around the 1990s. The table was long and oblong, a festive meal piled high in its center. The smell of turkey and dressing hung in the air and Sara Jean chuckled aloud as all three of the Reignites sucked in a deep breath. The motherly holo-figure passed around a tray of still-steaming rolls, and Sara Jean found herself wishing for a single taste, just as she did every time. When the flaming plum pudding dessert was placed on the table, her mouth watered. Too bad science had not yet devised the means to make taste part of the experience. "Now this is a tradition one could truly enjoy," Azek said, looking down at the plate. "Only with blood instead of wine," Turku added before chuckling because Sara Jean scrunched up her nose. "The menorah in the center is one of the oldest symbols of the Jewish faith. Eight of the nine branches represent the rededication of a temple after the successful Jewish revolt against the Seleucid monarchy. When the Jews arrived back at the temple, they reportedly had only 15

enough oil to burn for seven days. However, through a reported miracle of faith it lasted eight. The taller candle in the center is the Shamash and considered the helper candle used to light the others." Sara Jean pointed at the flickering image. Watching for a few minutes more, Sara Jean sighed and hit the button, turning the holograph off just when one of the children pulled a small trinket from the pudding. She could not think what to show her guests tomorrow. "Is there anything you all would like to see in particular when we meet again?" she asked. "Perhaps there is a party or such we could participate in?" Turku suggested, his warm smile mirrored by the other two men. It sounded a whole lot better than sitting down to watch a season's worth of old holiday movies in the theater. Sara Jean could use a stiff drink; then again, given her current company, it was more than a drink she needed stiff. "I know just the place," she said, giving a wink. The final day of the Reignite's visit began slowly, mostly because the commander assigned Sara Jean to check the supply inventory in the morning. It was a duty she truly despised and, as usual, she was late getting to it. At least she had her evening to look forward to; spending time with 16

Azek and the others turned out to be an enjoyable experience, exceeding her original expectations. They made her feel respected, as though she were entertaining friends or family—something her own peers on the station never managed to do during her entire time here. Sara Jean obviously needed a change in scenery and companionship. "I have noticed these circles of green foliage hanging about. Are they also a part of the seasonal celebration?" Pharos asked when they stopped to allow some station crewmembers to pass. Sara Jean blushed, embarrassed she could have missed explaining about the wreaths, which hung everywhere someone could place a hook. "The evergreen used to make the wreath is symbolic of the eternalness of life, and according to some historians predates organized religion. They say people would make the circle of greenery and hang them during the winter to represent the hope of the coming spring and rebirth." "And it is always done in this shape?" Turku asked, reaching out to touch the bright green circle of pine and holly. "It is eternal, no end and no beginning," she said with a smile before heading off toward their destination once again. Sara Jean could not get over the feeling of being with these three; it was an inner peace and belonging 17

she'd never felt before. Though they were strangers for the most part, never had anyone made her feel so at ease. She felt like she'd known them for years and not a few short days. Stopping in front of one of the smaller common areas, Sara Jean pointed to a group of dark-skinned crewmembers gathered around a kinara. The group was preparing the seven candles for placement in the holder. Three red, three green, and one black candle sat waiting on the table. "These individuals are preparing to celebrate Kwanzaa, which runs for seven days beginning just after the traditional Christian Christmas. The candles represent the seven key principles of unity, self-determination, responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith." She paused after the explanation and turned to Azek. "Much like the Caramac celebration on your planet, am I right?" "Those are important principles for us as well, though we represent each of those and two others, honor and family, with a goblet filled with the sacrifice of one's being. The celebration pays homage to the Reignite defeat on the invasion of our planet by the Tirant horrid," Azek said with a faraway look in his eyes. "So you all put your blood into these cups? Then 18

what?" Sara Jean asked curiously. No one seemed to know much about the Caramac Celebration. Most information available at the station library archives was on earth tradition. "Each member of a family group offers nine drops of their blood to each goblet and on the final night we each drink from the chalices, taking into us the strength of the Reignite as a whole," Pharos said while the group began to move down the corridor once again. Sara Jean was not very keen on any idea involving drinking blood. However, she understood the idea of the act representing the unification of the Reignite people. It made her wonder what that type of dedication to a people or family would be like. It was a foreign concept because she felt no kinship to anyone on the station. Not like these three did for one another, and since their arrival this same affinity extended to her. Luckily, when they reached the level five club, the party seemed in full swing. At least a hundred people crowded the area, filling the dance floor and overflowing into the seating areas. Taking a table near the back of the room so her companions would have a good view of the action, Sara Jean ordered them all shots of lunar liquor and beer chasers. A petite blonde strolled by, giving the three sexy men at Sara Jean's side a "come and get it" smile, 19

leaving Sara Jean with an overwhelming desire to throw her now empty glass at the girl's head. **** Azek sat in the fragile looking chair, certain the seat would break and dump him to the floor at any moment. He watched while small groups of people took turns singing off-key in what Sara Jean called karaoke. The songs varied in levels of seriousness and mood, each tied to the season of Christmas. He would have liked to pay closer attention to the tunes and analyze the message or value of each to aid in their research. However, the scent and closeness of the woman to his right caused Azek's mind to wander to a subject very different from the festivities he witnessed. The only place he wanted to be celebrating lay between Sara Jean's thighs. "Do earthlings consummate the holy night with sex?" he finally asked when the sight of the people grinding against one another on the dance floor made him shift about uncomfortably due to his thick erection. "Well, sometimes," she replied with a blush painting her pretty face. "What is that?" Turku interrupted, drawing Sara 20

Jean's attention to the small bundle of greenery that hung above their table. "Mistletoe," she told them. Her deepening blush puzzled Azek, and he wondered why this mistletoe would cause her embarrassment. "What is that for?" Pharos asked. "You're supposed to kiss whoever is beneath the swag, sweetie," the hefty server said as she placed another round of drinks on the table in front of them. The way she looked at Turku made it apparent to all she was willing to demonstrate. "Well, then, I insist you perform this tradition for us," Azek told a red-faced Sara Jean. His two companions nodded eagerly in agreement, and the server hurried away with a disgruntle huff. Without awaiting her response, Azek wrapped a hand around the back of Sara Jean's head and pulled her to him. Crashing his lips down upon hers, his tongue snaked into her mouth and began to duel with her own for domination. She melted into him, meeting his kiss and surrendering to the control of his mouth. Releasing her and pulling back slowly, he caught her lower lip in his teeth and gave a gentle tug before he released her. "As sweet as any sugar plum or candy cane you have shown me," Azek whispered, his hot breath dancing 21

across her trembling lips. "But I believe we cannot overlook giving the others such a treat." **** Sara Jean's lips trembled from the bruising kiss while her heart pounded hard in her ears. Staring wide-eyed at the large Reignite warrior, she sighed. Never had a man, of any species, made her feel like she might implode, especially with a single kiss. "I hope Azek has not stolen all the sweetness from your lips," Sara Jean heard as a hand turned her face and another mouth claimed hers once again. She became lost in the feeling of a new embrace before her mind could identify who had spoken. Once again released, Sara Jean had but a moment to catch her breath before the third male at the table grabbed her face in both of his large hands and pressed his mouth to her own. No longer did just her lips tremble, but her entire body—hot, wanton, and needing far more than the kisses of these three. "I think we should go back to your suite," she said in a voice she barely recognized as her own. "Then I believe we should take this with us." Azek stood and grabbed the mistletoe hanging above the table. 22

Sara Jean moved through the somewhat empty corridors quickly, anxious to make her way to the other side of the station before the moisture that already soaked her panties managed to work farther down her thighs. The three males flanked her on both sides and back, daring anyone to get close. Reaching the suite, Sara Jean began to strip out of her clothes, leaving them in a path toward the master bedroom. Pulling the rubber band from her hair, she tossed her head side to side, allowing her hair to dance across her now bare shoulders. She stopped at the foot of the massive bed and turned to face the three males close at her heels. Sara Jean smiled wide as a loud moan escaped all three men, who eyed her hungrily. Azek grabbed a handful of Sara Jean's hair, forcing her mouth to meet his as he pushed his tongue deep into her mouth. The remaining two, Turku and Pharos, were just as quick to act. The instant Pharos's wet tongue moved across Sara Jean's nipples, they became taunt, rigid peaks aching for the wet suction that followed. Sara Jean felt the remaining male pull her toward the bed, running his hands along both thighs roughly before helping her slide onto the side onto the mattress.
