Chapter One Nolan Bourdet stared in disbelief at the job application in his hand. Looking up at Leo, the were-cat bartender standing in front of him, he shook the paper. “Is he still here?” “Yah, he’s down in the front.” Keeping as tight a rein on his temper as he could possibly manage, Nolan rounded his desk and moved quietly down the spiral staircase to the first floor of Animalia, his club. The dance club wasn’t officially open for business, but the restaurant he’d added at the front of the building right after Hurricane Katrina had opened at noon for the lunch crowd. There weren’t many people sitting around at this time of the day and he knew all of them by name except for the tall guy at the end of the bar closest to the door. Jet black hair fell to impossibly wide shoulders. A well-worn sleeveless t-shirt and jeans hugged an impressive physique. Biceps covered in colorful tattoos drew his eye. The man turned around and Nolan nearly stopped to ogle the sculpted, almost chiseled, features in front of him. Still, he couldn’t believe this guy had the nerve he did. Besides, Micah didn’t tell me not to go there. Had he done so, I’d have avoided the place. Micah has never steered me wrong and he told me a little about you and Animalia.” Shilah leaned back in his chair.
